2 St. James R.C. Church June 7, sing with your heart and soul, do not sing. Well I think so many of our white parishioners just do not sing, as they do not put their heart and soul into it. So sad! You do not have to be a rock star or a professional singer all you have to do is sing from your heart. My dear parishioners, Today is Corpus Christi, one of the beautiful feasts of the year, celebrating the Body and Blood of Jesus. Basically it is a celebration out of the devotional life of the church. As we have finished the sacred times of the year, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Pentecost we have now begun the rather slow time of the year and these different feasts and celebrations help us to grow in our prayer life and devotional life. This feast of course is celebrated all over the world in so many different cultures and languages, but it helps us to renew our faith in Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. A truly beautiful feast! However here in the United States we just do not have either the space or an appreciation of processions anymore. When I was a kid, the parishes still had all of the liturgical trappings that went with these processions but over the years people sort of got away from these things and I guess unfortunately they got lost. I might say too bad! In other cultures, for example the Portuguese, the Brazilian and even in Europeans people still appreciate these expressions of faith. Two weeks ago I went to the Portuguese celebration o f our Lady of Fatima at the National Shrine to Fatima here in New Jersey. What really impressed me was the faith of the people, the prayer, the singing and the obvious faith manifestation of a people which I think has been lost by us Americans. Hearing thousands of people, men and women and children singing with all their hearts certainly is quite moving. For so many of our English speaking communities, no one even opens their mouths. They want to be entertained! Singing in church is not entertainment, it is prayer, it is worship. It is total involvement of heart and soul. Last year in a meeting I was present at in Michigan, a black music minister said so clearly if you do not Well enough. Church 07 June de Junho 7, 2015 de CALENDÁRIO SEMANAL DA COMUNIDADE PORTUGUESA E BRASILEIRA Missa Do Santíssimo Meus queridos paroquianos, Hoje é a Festa de Corpus Christi, uma das festas bonitas e celebratórias. Claro no Brasil e em Portugal é bem diferente do que aqui. Tentamos nos últimos anos de celebrar um pouco com o tapete tentando curtir os costumes nossos. Infelizmente esse ano por causa das outras atividades em Maio não conseguimos organizar isso. Se Deus quiser no ano que vem. Quero aproveitar esse momento de comentar um pouco sobre a caminhada desse ano. Todo o mundo sabe que as atividades pastorais em geral encerram no final de Junho e iniciam de novo em Setembro. Esse ano foi um ano de novidades e também de mudanças. Irmã Luiza já está aqui mais ou menos seis meses e já se vê sua influência com um novo espírito e novas ideías. Vamos começar logo reformar o nosso centro pastoral com pintura e outras mudanças para melhorar o ambiente. Já está se organizando a catequese para a nova caminhada. Isso vai ser com novas energias. Mudanças fazem parte da nossa vida. Famílias mudam, pessoas mudam. Crianças crescem e amadurecem. E é a mesma coisa na igreja. Quem sabe o que o futuro nos traz? Mas o importante é ser abertos ao Espírito Santo e procurer ver o que quer de nós e aonde nos leva. Bom, meus queridos irmãos e irmãs, estarei viajando para o Brasil no fim dessa semana. Voltarei no início de Julho. Vou celebrar também em Curitiba com um padre colega de ordenação esses 50 anos de sacerdócio. Até mais! Abraços.
