2 St. James R.C. Church January 1, THE GIVING TREE Dear Friends, I recently sent a letter to a friend, wishing her a Happy New Year. She answered, saying that the year 2016 was by no means a happy year. I did not ask her why, what happened. Maybe sickness, maybe financial problems, maybe domestic problems. Let's be realistic. The year 2017 will have its good things, and things that we consider bad. Maybe a dear friend will pass away. Maybe another dear friend will arrange a beautiful marriage. The important thing is to possess Jesus in your heart. If he is our intimate friend we must expect that he test us. He already told us that if we want to be his disciples we must carry our cross every day. No event during the new year is capable of defeating a person of faith and love for Jesus. Peace of heart remains present in the true Christian. As strange as it seems, happiness remains on clear days, on cloudy days. I personally have been very inspired by some of our parishioners who suffered very much this past year. Their spirit remained firm. They continue to transmit peace, happiness, even animation. I thank God for their presence in our midst. The Parish collected 118 gifts for this charitable Christmas Event. The gifts went to Newark Extended Care, St. James Church, St. John s Church, Covenant House and the New Vista Nursing Home for distribution. We thank all who participated so generously. The Giving Tree was sponsored by The American Community. Father Gerard Oberle, CSsR. Priest Horarios de Missa Véspera do Ano Novo, dia 31 dezembro :00pm - Inglês 7:30pm Portugues Mandei uma carta para uma pessoa amiga, desejando um feliz ano novo. Essa pessoa respondeu, dizendo que o ano 2016 não foi de jeito nenhum um ano feliz. Não perguntei a razão, o que aconteceu, Talvez doença, talvez problemas financeiros, talvez problemas domésticos. Vamos ser realistas. O ano 2017 terá suas coisas boas e coisas que nós consideramos coisas más. Talvez uma pessoa muito querida vai falecer. Talvez outra pessoa amiga vai arrumar um casamento muito bonito. O importante é estar com Jesus no coração. Se ele é nosso amigo íntimo é para esperar provações. Ele já nos falou que se quisermos ser seus discípulos teremos que carregar a cruz diariamente. Nenhum acontecimento durante o ano novo é capaz de derrotar uma pessoa de fé e amor com Jesus. A paz de coração continua presente no verdadeiro cristão. Incrível que parece, uma felicidade de espírito permanece nos dias claros e nos dias escuros. Eu pessoalmente fiquei muito inspirado por alguns paroquianos nossos que sofreram muito neste ano que passou. Seu espírito não foi abalado. Continuam transmitindo paz, felicidade, e até animação. Agradeço a Deus pela presença dessas pessoas amigos em nosso meio.
