Pastor Dear Parishioners The past few weeks in the Sunday Gospel we have been hearing about the Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount. It is a most beautiful text from Jesus himself about life, how a Christian should be. The message is about mercy, compassion, and justice. Every Catholic is called to exercise these three virtues wherever he may be. Jesus proposes the perfection of love, love of God and of our neighbor, which should be fundamental to our faith. There can be no thought of loving God if we are not at peace with our brothers and sisters, if we don't seek pardon, if we don't seek a way of working together. Our faith was not made to be lived only at home. It should be lived in community, in Church, in the temple where we all should be responsible. A simple disciplinary observance or exterior conduct is not enough. What is needed is an intimacy with God which brings us close to his Sacred Heart. Frequently a harsh word can seriously hurt our brother. In Brazil we say that some people have the tongue of a serpent. Why? Because their words can kill. Therefore we have to be careful about anger and calumny, gossip, all of which can kill the life of our brother. Before being reconciled with God it is important to be reconciled with our brother or sister. This is the lesson of this weekend. This way we bring within us the Kingdom of God. The love of God and of neighbor should be our goal.

Church February 12, CALENDÁRIO SEMANAL DA COMUNIDADE PORTUGUESA E BRASILEIRA Missa Do Santíssimo Meus queridos paroquianos, Estamos ouvindo no Evangelho destes domingos o sermão da montanha. É um texto belíssimo de Jesus sobre a vida, sobre como um cristão deve ser. A mensagem é de misericórdia, de compaixão e de justiça. Todo católico é chamado a exercer estes três pontos em todos os meios que estiver. Jesus propõe a perfeição do amor; amor a Deus e ao próximo, que deve ser fundamental para nossa fé. Não há como dizer que ama a Deus se não fizer as pazes com o irmão, se não procurar perdoar, se não buscar uma forma de caminhar juntos. Por isso nossa fé não foi feita para vivermos em casa somente, sozinhos; a fé deve ser vivida em comunidade, na Igreja, no templo que todos devemos ser responsáveis. Não basta uma observância disciplinar e uma conduta exterior, é necessário uma intimidade com Deus que nos aproxima do seu coração Sagrado. Muitas vezes nossa palavra dura pode matar o irmão também. No brasil costumamos dizer que algumas pessoas tem lingua de serpente, por que? Porque suas palavras podem matar, portanto temos que tomar cuidado com a ira e a calúnia, fofocas que matam a vida do irmão. Antes de nos reconciliarmos com Deus é importante reconciliar com o irmão. Essa é nossa lição neste final de semana, pois assim trazemos o Reino de Deus mais próximo de nós. O amor à Deus e ao próximo deve ser nossa meta! Tenha uma ótima semana e que Deus te abençoe.
