Objectivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes) GERAIS Transmitir técnicas fundamentais da análise quantitativa de dados e aplicar essas técnicas a situações reais relevantes, em particular no Serviço Social. Capacitar os estudantes com as bases para poderem continuar os seus estudos de análise estatística. ESPECÍFICOS Fazer a análise descritiva e exploratória de uma amostra de dados. Construir e interpretar gráficos de frequências; Calcular e interpretar indicadores de localização central e não central; Calcular e interpretar indicadores de dispersão absoluta e relativa; Calcular e interpretar indicadores de assimetria e de achatamento; Analisar dados quantitativos emparelhados através de tabelas de contingência e de medidas de associação; Compreender o conceito de variável aleatória e as distribuições normal e binomial; Compreender o conceito de distribuições por amostragem e de intervalos de confiança;

2 Compreender e aplicar o conceito de teste de hipóteses paramétrico; Aprender os fundamentos do SPSS e da sua aplicação. Learning outcomes of the curricular unit GENERAL The course is an introduction to statistics that aims to provide the fundamental techniques of analysis of quantitative data and apply those techniques to real situations. Students will acquire fundamental tools in order to continue their studies in statistical analysis. SPECIFIC Make descriptive and exploratory analysis of a sample data; Construct and interpret frequency graphs; Calculate and interpret measures of central tendency and other measures of tendency; Calculate and interpret measures of absolute and relative variation; Calculate and interpret measures of skewness and kurtosis; Analyze paired data with contingency tables and measures of association; Understanding the concept of random variable and the special cases of the normal and binomial distributions; Understanding the concepts of sampling distributions and confidence intervals; Understanding and be able to apply the concept of parametric statistical tests; Learn the basics of SPSS and its application. 6. Conteúdos programáticos 1. INTRODUÇÃO Estatística descritiva e inferência estatística. As fases do método de análise estatística. População e amostra. Classificação dos dados estatísticos segundo a sua natureza e segundo o tipo de escala 2. ESTATÍSTICA DESCRITIVA UNIDIMENSIONAL 3. ESTATÍSTICA DESCRITIVA BIDIMENSIONAL 4. TEORIA ELEMENTAR DA PROBABILIDADE 5. VARIÁVEIS ALEATÓRIAS Definição de variável aleatória. Variáveis aleatórias discretas e contínuas. Distribuição binomial. Distribuição normal.

INTRODUÇÃO AOS ENSAIOS DE HIPÓTESES PARAMÉTRICOS 8. INTRODUÇÃO AOS ENSAIOS DE HIPÓTESES NÃO PARAMÉTRICOS O programa inclui a aprendizagem e utilização do SPSS. Syllabus 1. INTRODUCTION Descriptive statistics and statistical inference. The phases of the statistical analysis Population and sample. Statistical data according to their nature and type of scale. 2. UNIDIMENSIONAL DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS 3. BIDIMENSIONAL DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS 4. ELEMENTARY THEORY OF PROBABILITY 5. RANDOM VARIABLES Random variables. Discrete and continuous random variables. Binomial distribution. Normal distribution. 6. SAMPLING DISTRIBUTIONS AND CONFIDENCE INTERVALS Confidence interval for the mean in a normal universe and for the proportion in a binomial universe. 7. PARAMETRIC TESTS: AN INTRODUCTION 8. NONPARAMETRIC TESTS: AN INTRODUCTION The program includes learning and using SPSS. 7. Metodologia de ensino (avaliação incluída) As linhas principais da matéria são expostas em aulas teóricas, sendo apoiadas com projecções em data show, as quais incluem também a resolução de exercícios. Após estas aulas o aluno deverá resolver em casa os exercícios indicados pelo professor para treino e consolidação da matéria. Nas aulas práticas, em sala de computadores, são introduzidos os fundamentos do programa informático IBM SPSS [Statistical Package for the Social Sciences] através da sua aplicação à resolução de exercícios.

4 Avaliação - Processo I: Primeiro teste parcial 35 % Segundo teste parcial 35 % Avaliação do SPSS 20 % Assiduidade e participação 10 % Avaliação - Processo II: Primeiro teste parcial 40 % Segundo teste parcial 40 % Avaliação do SPSS 20 % A classificação final será o valor mais alto de entre os processos de cálculo I e II. Os testes também incluem perguntas sobre o SPSS. A assiduidade só conta se o aluno tiver média nos outros elementos de avaliação igual ou superior a 7,0/20. Teaching methodologies (including evaluation): Power-Point slides are prepared for all classes which always include the resolution of exercises. The slides are first made available to students so they can bring them to the lectures and take better notes. After each class students must solve homework assignments for training the subjects taught. In lab classes students are introduced to the fundamentals of SPSS through its application to solving exercises. Evaluation method I: First partial test: 35 % Second partial test: 35 % SPSS examination: 20 % Attendance and class participation: 10 % Evaluation method II: First partial test: 40 % Second partial test: 40 % SPSS examination: 20 % The final grade is the highest value among the calculation processes I and II. The tests also include questions about SPSS. Attendance only counts for grading if the student has an average grading of the other elements equal or higher than 7.0 / Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular As aulas incluem a resolução de exercícios que cobrem toda a matéria, os quais são baseados em dados reais. Após cada aula são indicados exercícios para os alunos praticarem a matéria. As aulas de SPSS garantem a aprendizagem deste programa e a resolução de exercícios com este programa.

5 Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives Classes include the resolution of exercises that cover the entire program. These exercises are based on real data. Homework assignments and class exercises are given to students after each lecture in order to practice and deepen the subjects taught. Lab classes of SPSS provide learning and practice of data analysis with this program. 9.
