Objetivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências) Os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular são de dois tipos diferentes: informativo e formativo. No aspecto informativo pretende-se que os alunos conheçam: os principais conceitos e métodos de estatística descritiva (interpretação e tratamento de dados); os modelos probabilísticos que constituem as bases da estatística indutiva; os principais métodos de inferência estatística. No aspecto formativo pretende-se que os alunos saibam tratar e interpretar dados estatísticos e utilizar os principais métodos de inferência estatística como ferramenta de suporte à tomada de decisão em casos de estudo em ciências da natureza. 3 Conteúdos programáticos 1- Introdução 2 - Noções de probabilidade 3 - Variáveis aleatórias 4 - Distribuições de probabilidade 5 - Estatística descritiva 6 - Destribuições de amostragem 7 - Estimação 8 - Testes de hipóteses 9 - Testes não paramétricos 10 - Introdução à regressão linear simples Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída) A exposição da matéria é feita com o apoio dos recursos audiovisuais. Os conceitos teóricos são introduzidos com base em exemplos ilustrativos, recorrendo sempre que possível a representações gráficas para os ilustrar. O software R será usado em exercícios de aplicação dos conceitos lecionados. Métodos de avaliação: por frequência (com realização obrigatória de dois trabalhos de grupo e um teste individual) ou por exame final. Qualquer aluno é admitido a exame final, sendo dispensado caso obtenha nota igual ou superior a 9,5 valores na avaliação por frequência. A nota de frequência é a média ponderada dos 1º e 2º trabalhos e do teste - 20%, 30% e 50%, respetivamente. Para fazer a disciplina por frequência é obrigatória a realização dos 2 trabalhos e do teste. Considera-se aprovado na disciplina o aluno que tenha nota final igual ou superior a 9,5 valores. The students intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences) The learning goals of the current subject are of two kinds: formative and informative. On the informative side, students are required to know: the main concepts and methods of descriptive statistics (data processing and interpretation) the probability models which form the basis of inductive statistics; the main methods of statistical inference On the formative side, students are required to be able to handle and interpret statistical data. They are expected to make use of the main methods of statistical inference as a supporting tool to decision making when presented with case studies on natural sciences. 6 Syllabus Descriptive Statistics Probability Random Variables Known Probability Distributions Sampling Distributions Estimation Tests of hypothesis Non Parametric Tests Introduction to linear regression Teaching methodologies (including evaluation) Lectures are supported by data show resources. New concepts are introduced using illustrative examples and using graphical representations, whenever possible. The presentation of new concepts is followed by its application in problem solving exercises, mostly with the software R. Slides, lists of problem solving exercises, statistical tables, an organised list of statistical formula and all relevant information are available online. There are two types of evaluation: a final written examination or a distributed evaluation with the production of 2 group reports and a writen test. The grade of the distributed evaluation is given by the weighted average of 1st (20%) and 2nd (30%) reports and the test (50%). Students that score at least 9.5 out of 20 in the distributed evaluation will complete the course. All students are admitted to the final written examination.
