The Queenship of Mary Feast Saturday August 22nd St. Mary Magdalen Church 95 Lakeview Ave, Tyngsboro, MA 4:00 Mass PRAYER AND REFLECTION For the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 2, 2015 Read: John 6:24-35 Did anyone here grumble about coming to Mass today? If so, you are in good company. The Israelites grumbled against Moses because they were hungry. And after God sent them manna from heaven, they grumbled about the wretched food. Jesus makes himself our bread of life and sometimes we grumble about showing up for this holy meal. Today let s have a good laugh at ourselves and try to replace our grumbling with gratitude. Let us remember with grateful hearts all that God has done for us, and, because he asked us to do so, let us pray for those who most need our prayers. For the church throughout the world: for Christians everywhere who preach the Gospel with their words, their deeds and their lives For those who are most in need today: for those who are without enough food, clean water, access to medical care For those who are adversely affected by the summer heat: for those who work outside; for those without air conditioning; for those with emphysema or heart disease For those who are very sick or in pain; for those who struggle with addiction, anxiety, autism, depression and other conditions that make daily life difficult For those who are on vacation: for time away that restores us; for good reunion with family and friends; for safe travels For those who have died, and for those who will die today Prayer Gracious and life-giving God, hear the prayers of your people today. As you provided for our ancestors in the faith, we trust that you will provide for us. We pray that we may recognize your action in our lives as we dare to ask for one thing more a grateful heart. We pray in Jesus name. Amen

4 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHERS NEEDED From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. (Luke 12:48) If you feel the Lord has blessed you with an ability to communicate His truths to young people, we need you! If you are a teacher by profession and would like to share your faith with our young people, we need you! If you are not a teacher by profession and would like to share your faith with young people, we can train you because we need you! If you can listen to a child s prayers during the class, we need you! If you are a person of prayer, we need you! If you are a person in touch with God who directs our ministry, we need you! August 6, 2015 Transfiguration of the Lord God of life and glory, your Son was revealed in splendor before he suffered death upon the cross; grant that we, beholding his majesty, may be strengthened to follow him and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; For he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. 5 Quem vem a mim não terá mais fome e quem crê em mim nunca mais terá sede! XVIII Dom TC (Ano B): Êxodo 16, ; Salmo 78(77); Efésios 4, ; João 6,24-35 Jesus começa a proclamar o longo discurso sobre o pão da vida, na sinagoga de Cafarnaum. O seu ensinamento remete ao relato do maná no deserto (Ex 16,1s) e sublinha o novo alimento, que traz a vida plena. A multidão, impelida pela Boa Nova, procura Jesus e o encontra, mas ainda não compreende o sentido mais profundo do sinal do pão. Jesus convida a trabalhar pelo alimento que permanece até a vida eterna. Ele oferece esse alimento, pois Deus Pai o assinalou com seu selo. Assim, a obra essencial de Deus é acreditar em Jesus, o Enviado. Moisés foi instrumento de Deus na realização dos prodígios no deserto. O verdadeiro pão é oferecido por Deus através de Jesus, aquele que desce do céu e dá a vida ao mundo. O encontro com Jesus leva à súplica confiante: Senhor dá-nos sempre desse pão! A mulher samaritana, ao acolher Jesus, implora: Senhor dá-me dessa água, para que eu não tenha mais sede (4,15). Jesus manifestase como o pão da vida, o alimento que sacia a fome e a sede para sempre: Quem vem a mim não terá mais fome, e quem crê em mim nunca mais terá sede. A palavra de Deus, revelada em Jesus, o Cristo, alimenta as esperanças prefiguradas no maná: Não são as diversas espécies de frutos que alimentam o ser humano, mas a tua palavra que sustenta aqueles que acreditam em ti (Sb 16,20-28). A adesão a Jesus e aos seus ensinamentos alimenta e sustenta no caminho. A primeira leitura lembra que, em meio às dificuldades da travessia do deserto, o maná sustentou a confiança do povo no Deus que salva. O salmo canta as maravilhas realizadas pelo Senhor, que fez chover sobre eles o maná, para alimentá-los e deu-lhes o trigo do céu. A segunda leitura convida a trilhar o caminho da vida nova em Cristo: Revistam-se do homem novo, criado segundo Deus na justiça e santidade da verdade. Oração Mostra, Deus da vida, o teu bem-querer a esta comunidade reunida e dirige o povo que te reconhece como pastor e guia. Manifesta a tua misericórdia sobre toda a tua criação e ajuda-nos a preservar a terra para que todos os seres criados tenham vida em abundância. Oremos em nome de Jesus, nosso Senhor. Amém. Pe.
