PRAYER AND REFLECTION For the Feast of Christ the King November 24, 2014 Read: Matthew 25:31-46 The liturgical year is a rich cycle of beginnings and endings. As we conclude this liturgical year, we look again to the future, anticipating Christ s return in glory at the end of time. Our focus is on Christ s Kingship, an ancient image that is tempered by the image of the shepherd. God, and God in Christ, is tender and loving, yet judging and separating. The King -- the Son of Man -- identifies with the least of us. We bring our prayers to the feet of Christ, the King, the Son of Man -- who shows himself as a tender, loving shepherd. For the church that has often exhibited wealth and power: that it may witness to its calling as a tender, compassionate shepherd we pray, For those individuals, agencies and organizations that serve the hungry, the naked, the imprisoned, the uneducated, refugees and all who are vulnerable we pray. For eyes to see those who are most in need -- especially the hidden we pray, For those who have no one to care for them, who feel alone, unwanted, unloved, abandoned -- especially children we pray, For the sick and dying; for those who have died; for the zeal and generosity to support our diocesan and parish ministries we pray, Prayer God who calls us into the future, we want to be counted among those who have served the least among us. Give us the vision, courage and persistence to do what we must each and every day of our journey. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who is called the Son of Man, the King, the Shepherd. Amen. 5 ...Em verdade eu vos digo, que todas as vezes que fizestes isso a um dos menores de meus irmãos, foi a mim que o fizestes! 34º DTC (Ano A) Cristo Rei: Ez 34, ; Sl 22 (23); 1Cor 15, ; Mt 25, Usando a linguagem dos grupos apocalípticos do seu tempo, Jesus conta esta parábola de um grande julgamento público e universal, onde comparecem todas as nações. O juiz é designado como um rei, mas age como um pastor que separa ovelhas e cabritos e também se apresenta como o filho do homem do livro de Daniel, que se manifesta rodeado de anjos. A sentença, pronunciada em forma de bênção e maldição, traz como conseqüência herdar o reino ou ser lançado no fogo eterno. No critério do julgamento não há nada de expressamente religioso, mas as pessoas são premiadas ou castigadas pelas obras de misericórdia que realizaram. Desta forma, o filho do homem nos diz que não é preciso esperar o juízo final para encontrá-lo. Ou reconhecemos que ele esteve ao nosso lado cada vez que encontramos um pobre e um necessitado, ou não seremos, no último dia, reconhecidos por ele. Desta forma, além de propor a misericórdia como princípio de ação de seus discípulos, Cristo constitui os pobres como seus enviados e representantes. Eles são, como nos ensinam os pais e mães da Igrejas, os autênticos vigários de Cristo! Este último discurso de Jesus no evangelho de Mateus faz-nos lembrar o primeiro discurso, as bem-aventuranças. Os benditos do Pai, para quem foi preparado o reino desde a criação do mundo, são os misericordiosos, os que têm fome e sede de justiça, os puros de coração, os promotores da paz, etc. O definitivo e o eterno, o que nos julga e nos destina, tem seu começo nas opções cotidianas, no projeto de felicidade que construímos e em nossa capacidade de incluir os que são excluídos pelo sistema do mundo. A celebração litúrgica já nos faz participar desta plenitude que esperamos e nos antecipa o reino para nós preparado. Ao mesmo tempo, como encontro com aquele que é nosso pastor, rei e juiz, a liturgia nos julga e nos purifica. Nela, recebemos a palavra que nos revela e nos devolve a nós mesmos, que nos desmascara e nos faz encontrar nossa identidade mais profunda. Nesta reunião de irmãos e irmãs, somos ao mesmo tempo confirmados e advertidos para buscar a Deus na misericórdia com todos. Que nossa disposição de conversão nos leve a amar os excluídos e a superar a exclusão particularmente a exclusão dos empobrecidos e injustiçados, para assumir com responsabilidade e discernimento a exigência de novos ministérios, respondendo criativamente aos desafios de nosso tempo, no novo milênio.
