UNIDO and ISO collaboration A UNIDO-ISO memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in December 2003 to jointly assist those developing and transition countries, focusing on the use of standardization, to enhance industrial development and participate in world trade. In the MoU implementation, UNIDO supports a number of NSBs towards ISO membership, fostering their participation in ISO standardization activities, helping them harmonize national standards with ISO standards, and also assisting end-users and stakeholders (businesses, governments and consumers ) in implementing ISO standards Both organizations participate in each other s awareness-building events and meetings related to standards and conformity assessment, e.g. the ISO-lead DEVCO-CASCO workshops UNIDO and ISO have prepared a joint publication entitled «Fast forward NSBs in developing countries» aimed to provide guidance on how to manage the national standardization process Several other areas of cooperation, e.g. climate change, food safety management systems, standards and technical regulations, etc. are envisaged in the future 15
