Development of linguistic competence in German and awareness of different aspects in the two languages (rules of syntax and morphology) and their cultures. Awareness in distinguishing types of text (literary, essayistic, journalistic, technical, scientific) and stylistic levels. Na identificação dos problemas e na procura de soluções, inerentes ao processo de trabalho, salientam-se os aspectos divergentes nas duas línguas e desenvolve-se a competência linguística tanto na língua de partida como de chegada. 7.Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives The basic translation skills are developed through the critical reading of different types of text, the analysis of its communicative situations as well as the definition of its typology and function in the source and target language and culture. These activities aim to make the students aware of the specificities of each text and its relevance for the choice of the translation strategies. The diverging aspects in both languages are particularly clear when they identify the problems and look for adequate solutions. The whole translation process improves the linguistic competence in the source as well as in the target language.

3 8.Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída) Como unidade curricular dedicada à prática da tradução, o trabalho centrar-se à essencialmente na leitura crítica e tradução de uma vasta gama de textos em língua alemã, contando-se com a participação individual do aluno. A tradução preparada em casa será objecto de discussão na aula. Mediante as objecções e sugestões colectivas, a tradução (reformulada ou não) será incluída, com um comentário sobre as particularidades do respectivo processo de tradução, no portefólio de cada aluno. Propõe-se também a realização de traduções em grupos de trabalho na aula para que a procura de soluções seja um processo interactivo e a versão final surja como produto de um trabalho colaborativo. Avaliação: dois testes escritos com recurso a dicionários (50%); uma apresentação oral sobre um problema específico de tradução (25%); participação nas aulas, trabalhos de casa e portefólio (25%). 8.Teaching methodologies (including evaluation) Being a curricular unit dedicated to the practice of translation, our workload will focus primarily on critical reading and translation of a wide range of texts in German. Individual student participation is highly relevant for the final grade. The translation prepared at home by the student will be discussed in the classroom. Both the objections and suggestions aim to contribute to the final translation (reworked or not) which is to be included in the student s portfolio together with a commentary on the particularities of its translation. Translations will also be done in working groups in class in order to let the students experience the translation process as an interactive work and the final translation as the result of a collaborative research. Assessment: two written tests (50%); an oral presentation (25%); class participation, homework, portfolio (25%). 9.Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular Sendo uma unidade curricular dedicada à prática da tradução, a aula é o espaço e o tempo em que os alunos realizam um conjunto de actividades ligadas a essa prática e reflectem sobre os vários aspectos da experiência tradutória. A leitura crítica de uma vasta gama de textos em língua alemã, a análise das respectivas situações de comunicação assim como a definição da sua tipologia e da sua função na língua e cultura de partida e chegada desenvolvem as competências básicas para a prática da tradução. Na preparação da tradução em casa, os alunos realizam a tarefa de forma autónoma, elaborando uma primeira versão da tradução que será objecto de discussão na aula. As objecções e sugestões colectivas contribuem para os

4 sensibilizar para as particularidades das duas línguas em questão. Tanto a elaboração autónoma como a reformulação da tradução e a fixação da versão final (que será incluída com uma reflexão no portefólio) são tarefas que contribuem para o desenvolvimento da competência linguística tanto na língua de partida como de chegada. A realização de traduções em grupos de trabalho na aula permite que a procura de soluções seja um processo interactivo e a versão final da tradução surja como produto de um trabalho colaborativo e de partilha de experiências. 9.Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes Being a curricular unit dedicated to the practice of translation, the classroom is the place and the class the time where the students fulfill several activities and examine the different aspects of the translation practice. The critical reading of a wide range of texts in German, the analysis of its communicative situations as well as the definition of its typology and its function in the source and target language and culture develop the basic skills for the translation practice. Preparing the translation at home, the students work autonomously, creating a first version of the translation which will be discussed in the classroom. Both the objections and suggestions of the other students aim to make them aware of the particularities of the source and the target languages. The autonomous work on the translation and the final version (which is to be included in the student s portfolio together with a commentary on the particularities of its translation) develop the linguistic competence in both languages.
