Brief Biography Rogério Patrício Chagas do Nascimento was born in Lagarto City, Sergipe State, Brazil. He studied software engineering at the Federal University of Sergipe in Aracaju, Brazil, for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Master Science degree within the Informatics Department at the Federal University of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil, investigating about Distributed Systems applied to Distance Learning, Distributed Video Service and Media' Streams in Middleware. His professional experience was with the Court of Sergipe State working as system analyst trainee and computer programmer. He had over 5 years of teaching experience in the Technological Federal Center of Sergipe within the UNED of Lagarto city, where he was the Chair of Industrial Informatics Course. He finished his PhD at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, where worked with XML Family, Workflow and Ubiquitous Systems. Now, he is in charge of the telematics communications via satellite of a scholar tall ship on behalf of a scientific and humanitarian expedition around the Atlantic Ocean. It will cover African, Brazilian, and European coasts. Qualification PhD in Informatics Engineering at Universidade de Aveiro, PORTUGAL (University of Aveiro) - From March/2001 to Julio/ His main goal was create the framework named FLoWPASS and implement the case study that inspired it. He discussed the interrelation amongst the WPA, the XML Family and its integration with Database Legacy Systems. The FLoWPASS main idea is to separate the workflow process logic from the application components. For that, he used workflow process management techniques based on WfMC Reference Model, Java programming to implement the process logic, and XML Data Representation for data and metadata modeling. He tested a workflow process automation prototype to be used in the case study: the information management system of the Portuguese Parliament legislative processes. He implemented a first prototype to show the laws workflow processes based on WfMC XPDL Schema and he suggested the implementation of some applications to show the multimedia information related to this laws, based on XPDL, WfMC Interfaces, XML, XML Web Services, SOAP and WSDL. For the applications components, he built XML Schemas to generate XML files and he tested XSL files, which may be used to format data for each possible system front-end like PDAs, third generation mobile phones and desktop personal computers. Current Position and R&D Project Coordinator of Caravela Digital Project at Universidade de Aveiro, PORTUGAL The Caravela Digital will manage the informatics and cybernetics telecommunications via satellite to support the humanitarian Sabiá Project. The Caravela Digital is based on two pillars: a Web Portal located in Brazil (mirrors in Spain and Portugal) and a Fleet System inside the scholar tall ship. The Web Portal will implement services based in the XML family, Web Services, Ubiquitous Learning and Computing, mobile and wireless communications with ubiquitous Web devices. The Fleet System enables the vessel to be continuously online, permitting to implement services using the GPS localization and online web cameras. The Web Portal works in background storing videos, images and scientific or any intellectual production of the Sabiá Project. The development of this work can be viewed in Invited Researcher at Universitat de València On behalf of chairing the EATIS 2006 Euro American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems. He also is starting a collaboration on Web Architecture, Grid Computing and Semantic Web areas which probably will generate a book that will serve as a guide to professors and software engineers increase their skills. The book will consist in the current hot topics and new technologies that are being used to make Web applications today. Previous Position Chair and Lecturer of Industrial Informatics Course at UNED Lagarto/CEFET-SE, BRAZIL (Decentralized Learning Branch of Lagarto City / Technological Federal Center of Sergipe) - from February/1997 to March/ four different duties: professor and lecturer; managing of infrastructure used by the teachers (laboratories: hardware and software); tutoring for trainees and graduate students; and, assisting UNED strategic goals (partnerships with companies). 3 Previous R&D Projects Member of the DiViLab Project at Universidade de Aveiro, PORTUGAL - The search work was related to a conceptual study about the use of COM Activex components, according the Object Model of the MS Office 2000 package. Our initial aim was verify how we could develop Add-ins, Templates, Wizards or Libraries (*.dll) to be reutilised by another members of the DiViLab Project in their desktops. In this way, could be possible the creation of new learning courses about local, literature, panting, music and dance stiles.
