RESEARCH & INNOVATION WORLDWIDE RESEARCH IN BRAZIL President Mamdouh Shoukri will be a signatory on a Memorandum of Understanding the State of São Paulo research foundation and several universities, to encourage collaboration between researchers. York s Schulich School of Business has agreed to share its knowledge of sustainability, responsible business, training and development with Brazilian companies. History professor Paul Lovejoy collaborates with two Brazilian universities on Brazil s history of slavery & African diaspora. York professor Patricia Perkins leads a project helping Brazil's civil society to participate more in decision-making surrounding the management of water resources. York University recognizes the importance of understanding the Latin American region and its relationship to Canada and the rest of the world. And when it comes to Brazil, our academic connections run deep. York s connections with Brazil are vast and steadily increasing 12 York professors hold degrees from Brazilian universities, and York s Schulich School of Business has an International Satellite Centre in São Paolo, Brazil. York President and Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri recently visited Brazil as part of a delegation to help establish and promote Canada-Brazil partnerships in research, innovation and higher education. He returned with 75 research partnerships worth approximately $6.7 million. CONNECTIONS AT YORK York has two new entrance scholarships and two scholarships for its English Language Institute specifically for Brazilian students. The new Brookfield Brazil Internship Program will allow four of York s MBA/IMBA students to work within the Brazilian operations of a Canadian-based, global company. The Equity Studies Department s Chair in Multiculturalism originated through an agreement between York, the University of São Paulo, the Federal University of São Carlos and the University of Pittsburgh. Students get hands-on research experience through York s iray program, which gives students paid positions assisting Canada s top researchers on campus.

Students in our Technology Internship Program, for example, earn an average of $38,000 in a 12-month term.
