6 EMPLOYMENT In a working context people are treated differently according to their age, there is evidence that older workers receive less job offers than the younger ones. Sometimes the older employees even lose their jobs to the younger ones, because they are viewed by the employers as more capable and skilled. (Marques, 2011)

7 SOCIAL SERVICES In Portugal, there has been an increase of concern, by the government, to create appropriate social responses to the needs of the older population, but in general, there s a lack of: Elderly homes Recreation centers Financial help Home support

8 HEALTH CARE In a study made in the United States, it is shown that doctors treat the younger patients better than the older ones. They show: A less receptive posture Are less tolerant Show a lack of interest to inform patients Are less accurate to formulate diagnosis

9 MEDIA How are the seniors represented in the media? There s still a low participation of the elderly people in Tv programs, commercials, ect.

12 CONCLUSION Modifying the image of aging already rooted in society, requires the implementation of important actions in the health, educational, and social systems, in the job market, and in the media.
