The inaugural edition of the Future Champions Belo Horizonte Tournament was a great success, with premier clubs from all corners of the globe competing against Brazil s best. Fans flocked to both venues to witness a top quality display of some of the world s best U17 talent. A edição inaugural do torneio Future Champions Belo Horizonte foi um grande sucesso, contando com a participação de grandes times de todos os cantos do planeta competindo contra os melhores times brasileiros. Os fãs compareceram a ambos os campos para assistir a grandes apresentações de alguns dos maiores jogadores sub17 do mundo. It gives me great pleasure to see teams from all over the world competing in the first Future Champions Tournament to be held in Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais. The years leading up to 2014 FIFA World Cup will see many events and visitors in Brazil and Belo Horizonte will be a major Host City for 2014. This project will show these young players from other cities of Brazil and from different continents of the world the warmth of our hospitality, the quality of our organization and some of the beauty and variety of our country. To have the Future Champions international U17 football tournament in Belo Horizonte proved once again the vocation of the city for sport and the hosting of major international events. Managers, athletes, press and fans from four different continents had the opportunity to get to know and fall in love with the capital of Minas Gerais, during the championship that took place during the week of the city s anniversary. It has made us very proud to see young talented players that could enjoy many of the attractions of our beautiful horizons. Senses were sharpened and expressed in many languages, tasting our food, listening to our music that touches the heart, looking at the beautiful lines of Pampulha s architecture, feeling the history at Liberty square and realizing the touch of hospitality in every one of our citizens. Thanks to the efficient organization of the tournament and the warm hospitality from the people of Minas Gerais, we are sure that the same visitors will be back again in 2014. They will have the warm feeling of coming home again to a city that that will be even more improved, boasting an excellent and modern infrastructure ready to welcome the world to its beautiful horizons. FUTURE The introduction of Future Champions to the City of Belo Horizonte has proven to be a momentous achievement, propelling the city into the international arena of elite club football. This partnership between Global Sports International and the City of Belo Horizonte has the full support of the Local Football Federation of Minas Gerais as we recognise the power and impact a project of this nature holds for the City, State and indeed the nation of Brazil. It was a thrilling week of competitive football action played at two quality venues giving locals the privilege of seeing top U17 players from some of the world s best clubs. In the end it came down to a battle between Belo Horizonte s finest, with Atletico Mineiro taking home the trophy after a nail-biting finale against their biggest local rivals, Cruzeiro. Our boys did us proud and we look forward to supporting them as they compete in the 2011 edition of Future Champions Gauteng in South Africa. FUTURE A glittering Gala Dinner was held on the evening of the third Match Day, where teams were able to relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal at Xapuri. The following day being a Rest Day, teams explored the beautiful city of Belo Horizonte with a full programme of site-seeing and visits to the city s main cultural attractions. From a tour of the Host City s 2014 FIFA World Cup stadium, Mineirão, the largest stadium in the state of Minas Gerais and the second largest in the country; to the city s famous Igrejinha da Pampulha designed by Oscar Niemeyer, a breathtaking Pampulha church recognised as an Artistic Heritage of Minas Gerais; teams were treated to a full experience of Belo Horizonte s sights and sounds. The day rounded off with a lively drumming session, where players were able to experience the passion and rhythm of Brazil for themselves. SHOWCASING ELO HORIZONTE Um suntuoso Jantar de Gala foi oferecido no terceiro dia de jogo, quando os times puderam relaxar e aproveitar uma esplêndida refeição no restaurante Xapuri. No dia seguinte, dia de descanso do torneio, os times exploraram a bela cidade de Belo Horizonte em um programa completo que incluiu city tour e visita às principais atrações culturais. Em visita ao Mineirão, estádio-sede da Copa do Mundo FIFA 2014, maior estádio de Minas Gerais e segundo maior do país; à famosa igrejinha da Pampulha, projetada por Oscar Niemeyer e reconhecida como patrimônio artístico de Minas Gerais; os times vivenciaram o melhor de Belo Horizonte. FUTURE ROM SOUTH AFRICA O The winners of the Future Champions Gauteng Talent Search spent a week training with Belo Horizonte s biggest clubs. Promising youngsters Stephan Tlhabane Jnr, Andile Nqabeni and Sboniso Mncwabe, as well as Coach the Coaches winner Sphiwe Tsotetsi, travelled from South Africa to visit the youth academies of top clubs Cruzeiro and Atletico Mineiro. It was an experience they will never forget, with all four of them honoured to have been given the chance to broaden their horizons and learn from the expertise and skills of Brazil s top academies. FUTURE Coach the Coaches is a vital element of the Future Champions project, with a Coaching Clinic held throughout the week of the International Tournament. Led by Mauricio Pimenta Marques, an experienced football coach from Belo Horizonte, the coaching clinic catered for a group of invited coaches and trainers working in youth football development. Coaches from the twelve teams participating in the Tournament also contributed to the Clinic, where they each led a practical or theoretical lesson covering a range of pertinent topics, including skills development, nutrition, as well as physical and mental preparation for young players. LASSOF 20I0 Coach the Coaches é um elemento vital do projeto Future Champions, através do treinamento de técnicos, que acontece ao longo da semana de realização do torneio internacional. O treinamento foi conduzido por Mauricio Pimenta Marques, um experiente técnico de futebol de Belo Horizonte, e dele participaram técnicos que trabalham para o desenvolvimento do futebol juvenil. Os técnicos dos doze times participantes do Torneio também contribuíram para o treinamento, através de aulas teóricas ou práticas sobre uma série de importantes tópicos como desenvolvimento de capacidades, nutrição e preparação de física e mental de jovens jogadores. FUTURE HAT HEY AY... To be around people as professional, committed and dedicated to making this event such an unforgettable experience for all participants, was an honour. Seeing nine nationalities so connected despite cultural and linguistic differences was a unique and incomparable experience. This prestigious Tournament marked the lives of all those involved and is something to remember with great affection and pride. The success of the Future Champions proved that Belo Horizonte was the right choice to host the international U17 football tournament. A great deal of detailed planning and careful organization went into the event. Knowing that the Future Champions was the initial test for the World Cup and Confederations Cup, the Local Executive Committee invited all the institutions municipal, state and federal that would be involved in the tournament to identify and implement the necessary actions. The integration and mutual support of the public institutions proved the state of mind of the people of Minas Gerais toward the World Cup. The work was efficient, with the arrival of the delegations welcomed with special treatment from Policia Federal, ANVISA and INFRAERO, as well as protection provided by Policia Militar and Policia Civil with the support of Guarda Municipal BHTrans and Corpo de Bombeiros Militares. During their stay in Belo Horizonte, the foreign delegations, the press representatives and the fans had the support of BELOTUR, Regional Secretariats, 80 volunteers from UNI-BH and Municipal Secretariat of Sports also responsible for the modernization and management of Baleião Stadium. From visits of the city s tourist attractions to the excellent hotel accommodation as well as the two fields where the games were played, all we heard were compliments and thanks. Besides that, the citizens of Belo Horizonte that crowded the stadiums or had contact with the participants of the Future Champions gave an example of joy and enthusiasm, showcasing the typical hospitality of the people of Minas Gearias. The Future Champions was the first important example of how Belo Horizonte will host tourists, athletes and workers of the Confederations Cup 2013 and World Cup 2014. Foi uma honra estar próxima de pessoas tão profissionais, comprometidas e dedicadas em fazer desse evento uma experiência inesquecível para todos os participantes. Observar nove nacionalidades tão conectadas apesar das diferenças culturais e da língua, foi uma experiência única e incomparável. Este prestigiado torneio marcou a vida de todos os envolvidos e é algo para lembrar com grande afeto e orgulho. O sucesso do Future Champions mostrou o acerto na escolha de Belo Horizonte para sediar o torneio internacional de futebol sub17. Desde a definição até o início do torneio, foram dois meses que demandaram, em tempo recorde, planejamento acurado e operação eficiente. Afinal, receberíamos juvenis de alguns dos principais clubes do planeta e qualquer falha teria repercussão negativa, não só no país, mas em todo o mundo. Com a noção de que o Future Champions significava o ensaio inicial da Copa, o Comitê Executivo Municipal das Copas (das Confederações e do Mundo) convocou todas as entidades municipais, estaduais e federais que estariam envolvidas no torneio para definir e executar as ações necessárias. A integração e o apoio mútuo dos órgãos públicos mostraram o estado de espírito dos mineiros para a Copa do Mundo. O trabalho foi eficaz, desde a chegada das delegações recebidos com tratamento especial da Polícia Federal, da Anvisa e da Infraero, até a segurança das Polícias Militar e Civil, com apoio da Guarda Municipal, da BHTrans e do Corpo de Bombeiros Militares. Durante a estada em Belo Horizonte, as delegações estrangeiras, os profissionais da mídia e os torcedores tiveram a assistência da Belotur, das Secretarias Regionais e dos 80 voluntários do Uni-BH e da Secretaria Municipal de Esportes responsável também pela modernização e administração do Estádio Baleião. Das visitas aos pontos turísticos até as excelentes acomodações hoteleiras, passando pelos dois campos onde foram realizados os jogos, tudo que se ouviu foram elogios e agradecimentos. Como se não bastasse, os belorizontinos que lotaram os estádios ou tiveram contato com os participantes do Future Champions deram um exemplo de alegria e entusiasmo, além de demonstrar a hospitalidade característica do povo mineiro.
