Paróquia de São Miguel Hudson, MA Greetings, A couple of years ago some changes were implemented for the celebration of the Eucharist, in particular the posture of the congregation. I have noticed that some of these common postures are no longer being practiced. I am, therefore, repeating here the basic postures and their reason for being followed. I do this as a gentle reminder of some very important, reverential postures that we, as Catholics, practice in our worship of God. At the beginning of the Entrance chant all stand and remain so until the end of the collect (Opening Prayer). o This posture [standing], from the earliest days of the Church has been understood as the stance of those who are risen with Christ and seek the things that are above we assume our full stature before God, not in pride, but in humble gratitude for the marvelous thing[s] God has done All remain seated for the readings until the time of the Gospel Acclamation when they stand to hear the Gospel. o Sitting is the posture of listening and meditatating. They remain standing for the Gospel and then sit for the homily. o We stand for the Gospel, the pinnacle of revelation, the words and deeds of the Lord. *The people stand for the Creed and the Prayer of the Faithful. During the Creed, all bow at the words by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. o We bow at theses words in the Creed to signify our profound respect and gratitude to Christ. At the end of the Prayer of the Faithful, they sit. The people remain seated as the altar is prepared, as the gifts are brought forward and the gifts are placed on the altar. The congregation stands at the end of Orate fratres (Pray, brethren) but before their own response. The people remain standing until the conclusion of the Sanctus when they kneel. o Kneeling, once a sign of penitance now has come to signify adoration and reverence. They remain kneeling until the conclusion of the Great Amen. All stand for the Our Father and remain standing until the conclusion of the Agnus Dei. *At the conclusion of the Agnus Dei all kneel. o Kneeling, here is a sign of communal reverence. All stand for the reception of Communion. *As one prepares to receive the Body of Christ the communicant remains standing and bows his or her head and receives either in the hand or on the tongue. If receiving also the Precious Blood, the same sign of reverence is shown by bowing the head before receiving from the cup. o The bow of the head is a sign of reverence. They may sit or kneel for a period of sacred silence after communion. All stand for the Prayer after Communion until the end of Mass. Thanks very much for your attention to this gentle reminder. Some times it s the little things that can make our worship that much more meaningful. It is often the small things that jar in us a memory of the importance of reverence before God, what some of us might have learned as fear of the Lord. Quinto Domingo da Páscoa, 14 de Maio, 2006 Saudações, Há uns dois anos atrás foram implatadas algumas mudanças na celebração da Eucaristia, em particular sobre a postura da congregação. Tenho notado que algumas destas posturas comuns não têm sido praticadas. Por isso, aqui estou, repetindo as posturas básicas e a razão porque devem ser seguidas. Faço isto, como uma lembrança delicada de algumas das mais importantes posturas reverênciais, que nós como Católicos devemos praticar no nosso culto a Deus. No princípio do cântico de Entrada todos se levantam e permanecem de pé até ao fim da colecta. (Oração de Abertura). o Esta postura (em pé), desde os primeiros anos, desde que a Igreja existe, tem sido compreendida como o lugar daqueles que se elevam com Deus e procuram as coisas do alto... nós ostentamos a nossa estatura completa em frente de Deus, não por orgulho, mas em humilde gratitude pela coisa[s} maravilhosa que Deus tem feito... Todos permanecem sentados durante as leituras até à altura da Aclamação do Evangelho, quando se levantam para ouvirem o Evangelho. o estar sentado é a postura para ouvir e meditar. Eles continuam de pé para o Evangelho e, então, sentam-se para a homilia. o Nós levantamo-nos para o Evangelho, pináculo da revelação, as palavras e actos do Senhor. *O povo fica de pé para o Credo e a Oração dos Fiéis. Durante o Credo, todos inclinam a cabeça nas palavras pelo poder do Espírito Santo Ele nasceu da Virgem Maria e se fez homem. o Nós inclinamo-nos na altura destas palavras que significam o nosso profundo respeito e gratidão a Cristo. No fim da Oração dos Fiéis, eles sentam-se. O povo permanece sentado durante a preparação do altar, quando os presentes são trazidos e colocados no altar. A congregação levanta-se no final do Orate fratres (Orai irmãos) mas antes da sua própria resposta. O povo continua de pé até a conclusão do Sanctus (Santo) quando se ajoelham. o Ajoelhar, que significou em certa altura um acto de penitência, agora significa adoração e reverência. Eles continuam ajoelhados até ao fim do Grande Amén. Todos se levantam para o Pai Nosso e permanecem de pé até à conclusão do Agnus Dei(Cordeiro de Deus). *No final do Agnus Dei todos se ajoelham. o Ajoelhar aqui significa uma reverência comunal. Todos se levantam para a recepção da Comunhão. *Quando alguém se prepara para receber o Corpo de Cristo o comunicante permanece de pé, faz uma reverência com a sua cabeça e recebe a comunhão na mão ou na língua. Se receber também o Sangue Precioso, o mesmo sinal de reverência deve ser feito com a cabeça antes de receber o cálice. o Este movimento de cabeça e um sinal de reverência. Eles tanto podem sentar-se ou ajoelhar-se durante o período de silêncio sagrado depois da comunhão. Todos se levantam para a Oração, depois da Comunhão, até ao fim da Missa. Muito obrigado pela vossa atenção a esta gentil lembrança. Por vezes são as coisas pequenas, que podem fazer o nosso culto muito mais significante. São, muitas vezes, estas coisas pequeninas que nos causam um impacto na memória sobre a importância da reverência a Deus, o que alguns de nós, talvez, tenha aprendido como temer a Deus.
