A.J. Singh Drivers Shaping the Sustainability Agenda in the Hotel Industry and Charting the Way Forward Sustentabilidade em Hotelaria: Forças determinantes e a construção do caminho ideal A.J. Singh is the Professor of International Lodging, Finance and Real Estate Finance in The School of Hospitality Business. He has recently co-authored two textbooks, on International Hotel Management (2008) and Hospitality Asset Management (2009). A new textbook on Best Practices in Sustainable Hotel Development and Operations was published in March, 2011. He is an active member of HAMA (Hospitality Asset Managers Association) CHRIE (Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education) and AHFME (Association of Hospitality Financial Management Educators) ISHC (International Society of Hospitality Consultants) and ULI (Urban Land Institute). Dr. Singh works closely with the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at Michigan State University, in his role as the Director of Study Abroad for the College of Business. He is also a member of the Global Hoteliers Club, an association of International Hotel General Managers. The purpose of the presentation is to analyze the sustainability policies, practices and initiatives of major international hotel companies to determine the key drivers shaping their agenda. In addition, the presentation will present the practical barriers and challenges to implementing sustainable development practices at the corporate and hotel property level. Finally, the presentation will summarize the state of sustainability in the hotel industry and solicit feedback from the participants on opportunities for the hotel industry as it charts its way forward as a global partner in co-aligning with the objectives of Agenda 21. The project titled Art for conservation based on revitalize local traditional art tried to empower ladies to make the traditional handicrafts functional with present- day uses and they buy their products to tourists. In other hand tourists encouraged to purchase handicrafts directly from producers this gives the ladies more benefits in addition this relationship between tourists and local ladies increases their culture.also tourists recognize and consider their needs when they go directly in their houses and totally the project has good effects in the community and make the suitable opportunity for them. Now they consider the importance of their efforts and participation and their role in conservation of endangered project.

Reserva Biológica Huilo Huilo, el camino hacia un destino sustentable Reserva Biológica Huilo Huilo, o caminho para um destino sustentável Doctora en Economía, se ha especializada en Economía Urbana y Territorial, disciplina sobre la cual realiza asesorías y ha dictado diversos cursos en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad de Chile, Adolfo Ibáñez, entre otras. Autora del libro Competition in the provision of Local Public Goods, publicado por la editorial inglesa Edward Elgar Publishing el 2006, basado en su tesis de doctorado y de varios artículos publicados en revistas nacionales e internacionales especializadas. Desde el año 2007 se desempeña como Directora Ejecutiva de la Reserva Biológica Huilo Huilo y es directora de Fundación Huilo Huilo. Ha sido una de las impulsoras de la creación de Así Conserva Chile en el año 2010, primera Asociación Gremial de Áreas Protegidas Privadas y de Pueblos Originarios en Chile, forma parte de su directorio y la representa en el Consejo Consultivo de Turismo de Chile. Forma parte además de la Comisión Asesora Presidencial para la Nueva Política de Desarrollo Urbano de Chile, conformada en marzo del 2012, en su calidad de experta en economía territorial. Su presentación contará la historia del desarrollo de La Reserva Biológica Huilo Huilo, emprendimiento privado que nace el año 2000 y que es distinguido como el Destino más Sustentable de Chile por Fedetur 2011. Explicará cuál ha sido el enfoque para desarrollar este destino, la importancia que ha tenido centrarse en los valores del patrimonio natural y cultural del lugar, el trabajo con la comunidad y el desarrollo de proyectos exitosos de conservación como el del Huemul, por lo que ha sido distinguida por dos años consecutivos (2010 y 2011) con el Sello Verde. Mostrará los positivos resultados que ha tenido este enfoque y los desafíos que existen para el futuro. Concluye con algunas ideas de cómo lo realizado en Huilo Huilo se puede aplicar a todo Chile y transformarlo en líder del Turismo Sustentable a nivel mundial. Presentation contents This presentation will describe the main lessons learned from the first inclusive business project ran by one of the biggest tour companies in Peru and a community in the Highlands of Cusco. Since we started to work together 3 years ago we show the progress reached with preliminary results, initial problems and the future activities to strength this alliance between a private company and a local community. Eduardo Sanovicz Dr Prof. Eduardo Sanovicz is Professor at the Tourism course in the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities, USP Universidade de São Paulo. He is also a senior consultant in programs and activities in the area of Marketing and Tourism. Graduate in History, Master s and PhD in Tourism from the University of Sao Paulo. Between 2007 and 2010 was Director of Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado. From January 2003 to August 2006, was president of Embratur, having been responsible for the implementation of the Plan and the creation of Watercolor Brazil Brand. Between January 2001 and January 2003, was President of the Tourism and Events Anhembi City of St. Paul and between April 1997 and December 2000, Director of Operations for the St. Paul Convention & Visitors Bureau. He was Director of Tourism of the Municipality of Santos between 1993 and 1996. In 2002, won the Gran Prix Caio Award as Professional of the Year in Event and Tourism Businesses in Brazil. In the period 2004/2005 received the IMEX Academy Award, the industry event awarded in Frankfurt (Germany), chosen as the best work of the Americas. Executive Vice-President of FEDETUR Chile, and former Director of Sustainable Tourism Development at the World Tourism Organization (1997-2007) and Director General of the Work Programme at the World Tourism Organization (2007-2010). His presentation will summarise what has been done in terms of Sustainable Tourism since 1992 at the international level, to then introduce what effective progress has been made; this will necessarily be a somehow subjective assessment, since no one has conducted a comprehensive evaluation in quantifiable terms. This allows us to reflect on what factors have obstructed a faster and more integral progress towards a truly sustainable tourism industry, and conclude with some ideas on how governments, international agencies, the private sector, and the research and academic community can speed up the process.

Professor Geoffrey Lipman is Director of greenearth.travel, a global think tank network, promoting green growth and travelism (travel & tourism) and specializing in strategy, innovation and funding. He is President of ICTP (International Council of Tourism Partners) & Associate of Cosmos China. Lipman is Adjunct Professor at Victoria University Australia, Visiting Professor at Oxford Brookes University UK and Senior Tourism Research Fellow at George Washington University US. He is a Member of the World Economic Forum s Global Agenda Council. He has written and lectured widely on tourism strategy, sustainability and airline liberalization. Lipman joined the International Air Transport Association in the 1960s and rose to become its Executive Director before his appointment as the first President of the World Travel & Tourism Council from 1990 to 1999. Between 2006 and 2010, he served as Assistant Secretary General and spokesperson of the UNWTO, the World Tourism Organisation and prior to that acted as Advisor to the Secretary General. Helena Costa The Challenges for implementing projects on sustainable tourism in Latin America Os desafios na implantação de projetos de turismo sustentável na América Latina. Dr. Helena Costa. Professor for the School of Business, University of Brasília, Brazil. She holds a PhD in Sustainable Development, a Masters in Tourism and has focused her academic activities on tourism and development field projects. Currently, she coordinates the Laboratory for Tourism and Sustainability Studies (LETS) of the University of Brasilia with Professor Dr. Elimar Nascimento. LETS is an interdisciplinary research group with experience in designing and implementing tourism projects in Brazil and Latin America. It works in partnership with local and federal authorities, NGOs, and other scholars from different backgrounds and universities from several countries; namely the UK, USA, Spain, and Portugal. Her presentation will summarize some reflections over the past 6 years of field experiences from the research group, Laboratory for Tourism and Sustainability Studies (LETS) of the University of Brasilia. The presentation aims to address the main obstacles and challenges faced by them and their international partners as scholars and professionals, when searching for successful implementation of projects in Brazil and Latin America. This will allow us to reflect on which factors negatively affect the possibility of tackling development issues though tourism projects in this region.

Herve Houdre Drivers Shaping the Sustainability Agenda in the Hotel Industry and Charting the Way Forward Sustentabilidade em Hotelaria: Forças determinantes e a construção do caminho ideal Regional Director of Operations & General Manager InterContinental New York Barclay One of Europe and America s most respected hoteliers, Hervé Houdré began his tenure as Regional Director of Operations and General Manager of the InterContinental New York Barclay in October of 2009. Prior to this, he held the position of General Manager of the Willard InterContinental Washington D.C. since 2004. Houdré was named 2006 Independent Hotelier of the World by HOTELS magazine. He serves on the NY Hotel Association Executive Committee and Board of Directors and NYC & Company Board as well as on the Board of GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council). A leader in Sustainable Hospitality, Houdré published Sustainable Hospitality, a white paper utilized by Cornell University s Center for Hospitality Research. He has co-edited a book named Hotel Sustainable Development: Principles and Best Practices, published in 2011 by American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, together with Prof AJ Singh from Michigan State University. Houdré s efforts have been highlighted in a broad array of media in the US and abroad. His leadership achieved the 2009 Condé Nast Traveler World Saver Award, 2009 DC Mayor s Award for Environmental Excellence and DC Chamber of Commerce 2009 Business of the Year, among others. The purpose of the presentation is to analyze the sustainability policies, practices and initiatives of major international hotel companies to determine the key drivers shaping their agenda. In addition, the presentation will present the practical barriers and challenges to implementing sustainable development practices at the corporate and hotel property level. Finally, the presentation will summarize the state of sustainability in the hotel industry and solicit feedback from the participants on opportunities for the hotel industry as it charts its way forward as a global partner in co-aligning with the objectives of Agenda 21.

Through her business skills Jeanine managed teams for the bidding and event promotion sector, and coordinated marketing and communication platforms of Brazil as a tourism destination in more than 40 countries. Her leadership of multitasking teams focused on event management, marketing, sales and institutional relations created a new environment which led Brazil to improve confidence in the international tourism market. Jeanine was President of the Brazilian Tourism Board and also worked as special advisor for the brazilian Minister of Sports in the coordination of actions for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a speaker in conferences Jeanine has been invited to explore the trends of the brazilian tourism market and the impact of the big sport events on tourism. Jeanine is now working on marketing destination and events consultancy for PIRES & Associates and is President of the Tourism and Business Council of FECOMERCIO ( Federation of Commerce, Services and Tourism) in São Paulo.

She has both business and academic experience. She began her career in the tourism industry irriculn 1994, specializing in marketing and commercial relations. From 2001 to 2005 she was a faculty member of SENAC São Paulo, PUC Minas (Catholic University of Minas Gerais) and visiting professor at Centro de Excelência em Turismo at University of Brasília (UnB). Currently she is a lecturer at the University of São Paulo, in the Leisure and Tourism graduate programs. Her main research interests are tourism politics and education, and she is author and co-author of three books and several scientific papers. She is also in charge of all student internships in Tourism, which brings her in constant contact with tourism companies. Her consulting projects include development of training programs for hotel companies and city tourism bureaus, such as the Sao Paulo Convention and Visitors Bureau, where they train public sector and private companies in customer service. She is also a member of the Sao Paulo City Tourism Council.

After attending local high school he went on to study geography, history and political science at the University of Zurich and at Rouen University in France. Between 2007 and 2010 he also earned an MBA in sustainability management from Lüneburg University s Center for Sustainability Management in parallel with his professional work. Matthias Leisinger has been with Kuoni since 2003. He initially served as a project manager in the Environmental Affairs unit of Kuoni Switzerland, which was later restructured to a Group-level function. He was appointed Head of Corporate Responsibility for the Kuoni Group on 1 July 2008.
