Sicherheitshinweise Allgemein Dieses Gerät ist gemäß DIN EN VDE Einrichtungen der Informationstechnik Sicherheit, gebaut und geprüft und hat das Werk in sicherheitstechnisch einwandfreiem Zustand verlassen. Um diesen Zustand zu erhalten und einen gefahrlosen Betrieb sicherzustellen, muss der Anwender die nachfolgenden Hinweise und Warnvermerke beachten. Transport Der Transport des Geräts sollte nur in der Originalverpackung erfolgen (Schutz gegen Stoß und Schlag). Wird das Gerät aus einer kalten Umgebung in den Betriebsraum gebracht, kann Betauung auftreten. Vor Inbetriebnahme muss das Gerät absolut trocken sein. Deshalb ist eine Akklimatisationszeit von mindestens 2 Stunden abzuwarten. Aufstellen Das hier beschriebene Gerät sollte nur von einer Elektrofachkraft bedient werden. Das Gerät ist vor direktem Sonnenlicht und Hitze zu schützen. Das Gerät darf nur mit dem mitgelieferten Original-Netzadapter betrieben oder geladen werden Austausch der Batterien: Es dürfen ausschließlich Nickel-Metallhydrid (Ni- MH) Akkus der Größe Mignon (AA) 1,2 V eingesetzt werden! Beim Einsetzen der Akkus sind die Polaritätssymbole im Inneren des Batteriefachs zu beachten! Alte Batterien sind sachgerecht zu entsorgen. ACHTUNG: Explosionsgefahr bei nicht sachgemäßem Austausch der Batterien! Während eines Gewitters dürfen Datenübertragungsleitungen weder angeschlossen noch gelöst werden. VIT-A

10 Reparaturen Reparaturen dürfen nur von dafür qualifiziertem Personal ausgeführt werden. Es dürfen nur solche Ersatzteile verwendet werden, die die Sicherheitsbestimmungen des Gerätes nicht verändern. Wartungsarbeiten und Reparaturen am geöffneten Gerät dürfen nur von einer Fachkraft ausgeführt werden. Achtung: Gerät der Klasse A Dies ist eine Einrichtung der Klasse A. Diese Einrichtung kann im Wohnbereich Funkstörungen verursachen; in diesen Fall kann vom Betreiber verlangt werden, angemessene Maßnahmen durchzuführen VIT-A2

Allgemeines zum DSL-Tester VIT-A2 Der DSL-Tester VIT-A2 ermöglicht dem Servicetechniker im Außendienst, schnell und unkompliziert die erfolgreiche Bereitstellung von ADSL- Diensten auf einer Kundenanschlussleitung zu überprüfen (ADSL, ADSL2 sowie ADSL2+). Der DSL-Tester VIT-A2 wird anstelle eines Kundenmodems in Richtung Vermittlungsstelle auf die Leitung geschaltet. Mögliche Messpunkte für die Anschaltung sind beispielsweise der Hauptverteiler (HVt), der Kabelverzweiger (KVz) oder der Übergabepunkt zum Kunden (ApL). Mit dem Gerät wird einerseits das Vorhandensein einer Fernspeisung für POTS bzw. ISDN auf der Leitung detektiert, um die korrekte Anschaltung der a/b-adern sicherzustellen, anderer seits wird geprüft, ob eine Synchronisation mit dem DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) in der Vermittlungsstelle möglich ist. Über die im Gerät integrierte Ethernet-Schnittstelle ist es zusätzlich möglich, mit Hilfe eines angeschlossenen Notebooks diverse ADSL bzw. ADSL2+ spezifische Verbindungsparameter für weitergehende Analysen auszulesen. Eine Kalibrierung des DSL-Testers VIT-A2 ist nicht erforderlich. VIT-A

12 3. Bedeutung der Anschlüsse und Bedienelemente 3.1 Buchse DC 12V An dieser Buchse erfolgt der Anschluss des mitgelieferten 12V Adapterkabels. Abhängig von der Position des Kippschalters On / ADSL Test Off / Line Test werden entweder die Akkus geladen (Gerät im ausgeschalteten Zustand) oder der DSL-Tester extern mit Strom versorgt, wobei die Akkus per Erhaltungsladung geschont werden (Gerät im eingeschalteten Zustand). Um einen ständigen Neustart der Akkuschnellladung bei Netzbetrieb des Geräts und Betätigen des Schalters zu vermeiden, startet der Akkuladevorgang nur dann, wenn sich der Schalter bereits in der Position Off / Line Test befindet und anschließend der Stecker des Stromversorgungskabels mit der DC-Buchse verbunden wird. In diesem Fall leuchtet die orange LED Charge auf der Gehäuseoberseite auf. Die möglichen Kombinationen aus Schalterposition und Anschluss einer externen Stromversorgung sind in der folgenden Tabelle zusammengefasst: VIT-A2

Kein Stromverbrauch 3.2 Schalter On / ADSL Test Off / Line Test Dieser Kippschalter dient zum Ein- und Ausschalten der Stromversorgung, die entweder intern über Akkus oder extern über die DC-Buchse erfolgt. Gleichzeitig wird aber auch zwischen der Prüfung eines erfolgreichen ADSL-Verbindungsaufbaus (Schalterstellung ADSL Test ) und dem Test auf eine vorhandene Fernspeisespannung (Schalterstellung Line Test ) umgeschaltet. Wurden sowohl der Speisungs- als auch der ADSL-Test bestanden, so ist die Bereitstellung des ADSL-Dienstes gegenüber dem Kunden erfolgreich durchgeführt. Schalterposition Off / Line Test: In der Schalterstellung Line Test wird detektiert, ob auf der untersuchten Anschlussleitung die Fernspeisespannung für einen Analog- oder ISDN- Anschluss vorhanden ist, wobei das Ergebnis durch die zugehörige LED Line Test auf der Gehäuseoberseite angezeigt wird. Ist das Testergebnis positiv, so ist sichergestellt, dass bei der ADSL- Bereitstellung auch beide Adern (a und b) korrekt angeschaltet wurden. Damit wird der Fehlerfall der versehentlich einadrigen Anschaltung abgefangen, bei dem sich ein ADSL-Modem unter ansonsten sehr VIT-A

14 günstigen Bedingungen (wie z.b. einer geringen Leitungsdämpfung) eventuell trotzdem erfolgreich synchronisiert. Der Speisungs-Test darf allerdings nicht hinter dem Splitter der Benutzerseite in Richtung Kundenmodem durchgeführt werden, da an dieser Stelle der Leitung keine Gleichspannung mehr vorhanden ist und damit auch keine Aussage über die korrekte Anschaltung der a/b-adern getroffen werden kann. Schalterposition On / ADSL Test: In der Schalterstellung ADSL Test wird geprüft, ob eine Synchronisation mit dem DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) in der Vermittlungsstelle möglich ist. Hierbei findet zunächst eine Initialisierung (Handshake) nach ITU- Standard G statt sowie anschließend, abhängig von der Vorgabe durch den DSLAM, ein Verbindungsaufbau gemäß folgenden unterstützten Standards: ITU G (ADSL) ITU G (ADSL2) ITU G (ADSL2+) Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass im DSL-Tester VIT-A2 ein vollwertiger ADSL/ADSL2+ Chipsatz eingesetzt wird, entspricht dies der kompletten Initialisierung eines herkömmlichen Kundenmodems. Der aktuelle Verbindungsstatus kann über die zugehörige LED ADSL/ADSL2+ auf der Gehäuseoberseite abgelesen werden (siehe Kapitel 4.5). 3.3 Buchse ADSL Über die RJ11-Buchse ADSL erfolgt der Anschluss des DSL-Testers VIT-A2 mit Hilfe eines entsprechenden Kabels an den gewünschten Messpunkt der Anschlussleitung (z.b. Hauptverteiler oder Kabelverzweiger) in Richtung Vermittlungsstelle. Zu diesem Zweck liegt dem Gerät ein ca. 2 m langes Kabel bei (RJ11-Stecker auf Bananenbuchsen/-stecker Kombination; beim RJ11-Stecker werden die mittleren beiden Kontakte 3 und 4 für die Adern a und b verwendet) VIT-A2

15 3.4 Buchse LAN Über die RJ45-Buchse LAN kann der Benutzer optional ein Notebook oder einen PC mit 10/100BaseT Ethernet-Netzwerkkarte anschließen. Für den Anschluss wird ein Netzwerkkabel mit 1:1 Beschaltung benötigt. Über die LAN-Schnittstelle ist es möglich, verschiedene ADSL bzw. ADSL2+ Verbindungsparameter auszulesen. Dazu zählen z.b. die Leitungsdämpfung, der Rauschabstand und die ausgehandelten ATM- Datenraten für Up- und Downstream. Eine genauere Beschreibung befindet sich in der Dokumentation der zugehörigen Software VIT-A2 Watch, die zum Auslesen der Parameter erforderlich ist. 3.5 Taster Internet connection Mit diesem Taster kann über den DSL-Tester VIT-A2 ein Internet-Einwahltest durchgeführt werden. Zweck des Tests ist die Aussage, ob über den DSL-Anschluss auch eine erfolgreiche Interneteinwahl möglich ist. Da die Funktion dieses Bedienelements eng mit dem Verhalten der LED "Internet test" verknüpft ist, wird die Steuerung und der Ablauf eines Einwahltests im zugehörigen Kapitel 4.8 beschrieben. VIT-A

16 4. Bedeutung der Anzeigen (LEDs) 4.1 LED Power Die grüne LED mit der Bezeichnung Power zeigt zur Kontrolle an, ob sich der DSL-Tester VIT-A2 im ein- oder ausgeschalteten Zustand befindet. Abhängig von der Stellung des Kippschalters auf der Gehäusefrontseite leuchtet die LED im Modus On / ADSL Test bzw. leuchtet nicht im Modus Off / Line Test. Weiterhin erlischt die LED auch in der Schalterposition On / ADSL Test, falls eine automatische Abschaltung des Geräts aufgrund leerer Akkus erfolgt, oder eine zuvor aktive externe Stromversorgung ausgeschaltet bzw. abgezogen wird. Um nach einem solchen Fall das Gerät wieder einzuschalten, muss der Kippschalter zunächst in die Position Off / Line Test und danach wieder in die Stellung On / ADSL Test gebracht werden. Wird keine externe Stromversorgung verwendet, sollte zur Schonung der Akkus das Gerät bei Nichtgebrauch ausgeschaltet werden (Schalterstellung Off / Line Test ) VIT-A2

17 4.2 LED Low Battery Die rote LED Low Battery warnt den Benutzer vor einem kritischen Akkuladestand. Bei Aufleuchten dieser Anzeige sollte das Gerät vor dem nächsten Einsatz unbedingt wieder aufgeladen werden. Falls der DSL- Tester VIT-A2 trotz der Anzeige Low Battery weiter betrieben wird, so erfolgt nach einiger Zeit eine automatische Abschaltung des Gerätes, um einer Tiefentladung der Akkus entgegenzuwirken. Alternativ ist natürlich auch ein stationärer Betrieb über ein Netzgerät möglich. Das Gerät schaltet dabei automatisch und ohne Unterbrechung der laufenden Messung von Akku- auf Netzbetrieb um, sobald eine externe Stromquelle an die DC-Buchse angeschlossen wird. 4.3 LED Charge Die orange LED Charge leuchtet auf, solange eine Schnellladung der Akkus im Gerät erfolgt. Voraussetzung hierfür ist, dass sich der Kippschalter auf der Gehäusefrontseite in der Position Off / Line Test befindet und danach eine externe Stromquelle (Autobatterie oder Netzgerät) an die DC-Buchse angeschlossen wurde. Sobald der Ladevorgang beendet ist (bei leeren Akkus nach ca. 3 Stunden), erlischt die LED Charge und das Gerät schaltet intern auf Erhaltungsladung um. 4.4 LED Line Test Die grüne LED Line Test zeigt an, ob auf der Leitung eine Fernspeisespannung für einen Analog- oder ISDN-Anschluss vorhanden ist, sofern sich der Kippschalter in der dafür vorgesehenen Position Line Test befindet. Folgende Anzeigen dieser LED sind möglich: LED Line Test leuchtet nicht: Es wurde keine Speisespannung auf der Leitung festgestellt. Dies bedeutet, dass entweder kein zugehöriger Dienst (analog oder ISDN) am Anschluss vorgesehen ist, VIT-A

18 dass irrtümlich hinter dem Splitter der Benutzerseite gemessen wurde, oder dass ein Fehler in der Anschaltung der a/b-adern vorliegt. Die LED ist ebenfalls inaktiv, wenn sich der Schalter in der Stellung ADSL Test befindet. LED Line Test leuchtet: Es wird eine Speisespannung detektiert. Dies bedeutet, dass auf der entsprechenden Leitung entweder ein analoger oder ein ISDN-Anschluss geschaltet ist und somit die Adern a und b korrekt durchverbunden sind. 4.5 LED ADSL/ADSL2+ Die zweifarbige LED ADSL/ADSL2+ (grün/orange) zeigt den Status eines ADSL-Verbindungsaufbaus mit dem DSL Access Multiplexer in der Vermittlungsstelle an, sofern sich der Kippschalter in der Stellung ADSL Test befindet. Folgende Anzeigen sind möglich LED ADSL/ADSL2+ leuchtet nicht: Der DSL-Tester VIT-A2 ist ausgeschaltet (Schalterstellung des Kippschalters auf Off / Line Test ). LED ADSL/ADSL2+ blinkt langsam: Das Gerät befindet sich im Bereitschaftsmodus und sendet fortlaufend Aktivierungsanreize für einen Verbindungsaufbau mit der Gegenstelle (DSLAM) aus. Sobald eine Antwort auf die Aktivierung vorliegt, geht der Verbindungsaufbau in die nächste Phase über, was die LED durch ein schnelleres Blinken anzeigt (siehe unten). LED ADSL/ADSL2+ blinkt schnell: Der ADSL-Verbindungsaufbau mit dem DSLAM läuft, d.h. es findet zunächst eine Handshake-Prozedur nach ITU G statt, darauf folgt eine Synchronisations- und Trainingsphase nach ITU G (für ADSL), G (für ADSL2) oder G (für ADSL2+) VIT-A2

19 LED ADSL/ADSL2+ leuchtet dauerhaft: Die Synchronisation mit dem DSLAM wurde erfolgreich abgeschlossen, d.h. die ADSL bzw. ADSL2+ Verbindung (inkl. ATM-Schicht) ist hergestellt. Hält dieser Zustand an (d.h. es erfolgt keine sofortige Neusynchronisation bzw. Blinken der LED), so ist der DSL-Test bestanden. HINWEIS: Die LED leuchtet ebenfalls kurz nach dem Einschalten bzw. Umschalten in den Betriebsmodus ADSL Test, während das Gerät einen Selbsttest durchführt. Dabei blinkt die LED auch zweimal kurzzeitig orange. Dies hat jedoch noch nichts mit dem ADSL-Verbindungsaufbau zu tun, da einer erfolgreichen Synchronisation in jedem Fall eine Aushandlungs-Phase (wie oben beschrieben) voran geht. Anhand der Leuchtfarbe der LED (grün oder orange) kann abgelesen werden, um welchen DSL-Dienst es sich handelt: LED leuchtet grün: ADSL nach ITU G oder ADSL2 nach ITU G LED leuchtet orange: ADSL2+ nach ITU G LED Bluetooth Die grüne LED Bluetooth leuchtet, sofern ein Bluetooth-Modul erkannt wurde und dieses aktiv ist. Ein Bluetooth-Modul ist für den VIT-A2 als nachrüstbare Aufsteckplatine optional erhältlich, um Verbindungsdaten vom Gerät auch drahtlos auf einen mobilen PDA zu übertragen. Für Geräte ohne Bluetooth-Modul hat die LED keine Bedeutung. 4.7 LED Ethernet Die grüne LED Ethernet zeigt dem Benutzer eine aktive Ethernet- Verbindung an. Die LED leuchtet, sofern ein PC oder Notebook korrekt an VIT-A

20 der LAN-Buchse über ein 1:1 verschaltetes Netzwerkkabel angeschlossen ist. 4.8 LED Internet test Die LED "Internet test" zeigt den Ablauf und das Ergebnis eines Internet- Einwahltests an, der über den Taster "Internet connection" gesteuert werden kann. Zweck des Tests ist die Aussage, ob über den DSL- Anschluss auch eine erfolgreiche Interneteinwahl möglich ist. HINWEIS: Die sinnvolle Ausführung eines Einwahltests setzt voraus, dass über die Windows-Software "VIT-A2 Watch" einmalig gültige Internet-Einwahldaten für die Betriebsart Router auf dem Gerät konfiguriert wurden. Lesen Sie dazu das entsprechende Kapitel in der Dokumentation zu "VIT-A2 Watch". Vor der Aktivierung eines Einwahltests sollte zunächst sichergestellt sein, dass die ADSL-Strecke synchron ist. Dies sehen Sie daran, dass die LED "ADSL/ADSL2+" dauerhaft leuchtet, wie in Abschnitt 4.5 beschrieben. Der Einwahltest befindet sich im Ausgangszustand bzw. in Bereitschaft, wenn die LED "Internet test" aus ist. Drücken Sie den Taster ca. 3 Sekunden, um einen Einwahltest zu starten. Sobald der Test läuft, fängt die LED "Internet test" langsam an zu blinken. Sollte die ADSL-Strecke noch nicht synchron sein, wenn Sie einen Test starten, dann geht der Test in einen Wartezustand über (signalisiert durch ein unterbrochenes langsames VIT-A2

21 Blinken der LED "Internet test") und fährt fort, sobald die ADSL- Verbindung steht. Der Abbruch eines laufenden Tests ist jederzeit über einen langen Tastendruck möglich. Während ein Test abgebrochen wird, zeigt die LED "Internet test" dies über ein wiederkehrendes kurzes Aufblitzen an. Danach geht der Einwahltest wieder in den Bereitschaftszustand über, d. h. die LED geht aus. Sobald der Einwahltest abgeschlossen ist, wird das Ergebnis mit einer Ja/Nein-Aussage über die LED "Internet test" angezeigt: War der Test erfolgreich, leuchtet die LED dauerhaft. Ist der Test fehlgeschlagen, blinkt die LED in schnellem Rhythmus. Für eine weitergehende Fehleranalyse haben Sie die Möglichkeit, die Ursache über die Software VIT-A2 Watch auszulesen. 24 1. Safety instructions General information This device was built and tested in conformity with DIN EN VDE "Information technology equipment - Safety" and left our plant in perfect working order. To maintain this state and ensure safe operation, the user must heed the following instructions and warnings. Transport The device should be transported only in its original packaging (to protect against shocks and impact). Condensation can occur if the device is brought from a cold environment into the room where it is to be operated. The device must be absolutely dry prior to being operated. Accordingly, an acclimatization period of at least two hours is required. Setup Only trained technicians working in the field of electronics may operate the device described here. Protect the device against direct sunlight and heat. The device should be operated or charged only with the supplied (original) AC adapter. Exchanging the batteries: You must use size AA (1.2 V) nickel metal hydride (NiMH) rechargeable cells. When inserting the batteries, make sure you take note of the polarity symbols inside the battery compartment. You should also be sure to properly dispose of old batteries. 26 2. General information about the VIT-A2 The VIT-A2 DSL Tester allows field service technicians to quickly and easily check for successful provision of ADSL services on a customer line. ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ are all supported. The VIT-A2 DSL Tester is connected in the line in place of the customer s modem in the exchange direction. Possible connection points for the tester include the main distribution frame, the cable distribution cabinet or the customer connection point. The tester checks for the presence of the remote power supply for POTS or ISDN on the line in order to ensure correct connection of the a/b wires. It also checks whether synchronization is possible with the DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) in the exchange. Using the Ethernet interface built into the device, it is also possible to use a notebook to read out various connection parameters specific to ADSL or ADSL2+ for further analysis. The VIT-A2 DSL Tester does not require calibration VIT-A2

27 3. Connectors and operating elements 3.1 DC 12V jack The 12 V adapter cable which is provided with the tester is connected to this jack. Depending on the position of the flip switch labeled "On / ADSL Test" "Off / Line Test", either the batteries will be charged (device switched off) or the DSL tester will be externally powered while the batteries are trickle-charged (device switched on). In order to prevent a continuous restart of the fast charging when the device is using AC power and this switch is activated, the battery charging procedure starts only if the switch is already in the "Off / Line Test" position and the plug on the power supply cable is then connected to the DC jack. In this case, the orange "Charge" LED on the top side of the housing will light up. 28 3.2 The On / ADSL Test Off / Line Test switch This flip switch is used to turn the power supply on and off. The power is either supplied internally via rechargeable cells or externally via the DC jack. At the same time, a switch is also made between checking for a successful ADSL connection setup (switch position "ADSL Test") and testing for the presence of the remote power supply (switch position "Line Test"). If both the power test and the ADSL test are passed, then provision of the ADSL service to the customer has been successfully completed. Switch position Off / Line Test: In the switch position "Line Test", the tester detects whether the remote power supply for an analog or ISDN line is present on the line under test. The result is indicated by the "Line Test" LED on the top side of the housing. If the test result is positive, you can rest assured that both wires (a and b) are properly connected for ADSL service. This helps to catch cases in which there is an unintentional one-wire connection but the ADSL modem somehow still manages to synchronize since the line conditions are otherwise very good (e.g. low line attenuation). Note that the power test cannot be performed behind the splitter on the user side in the direction of the customer modem since there is no longer any DC voltage present at this point on the line. There is also no way to determine whether the a/b wires are properly connected in this case. Switch position On / ADSL Test: In the switch position "ADSL Test", the tester checks whether it is possible to synchronize with the DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) in the exchange. First, initialization (handshake) takes place in compliance with ITU Recommendation G Then, depending on what is specified by the DSLAM, a connection is set up using the following supported standards: ITU G (ADSL) ITU G (ADSL2) ITU G (ADSL2+) VIT-A2

29 Due to the type of ADSL/ADSL2+ chipset is used in the VIT-A2 DSL Tester, this corresponds to complete initialization of a conventional customer modem. You can read off the current connection status from the "ADSL Test" LED on the top side of the housing (see section 4.5). 3.3 ADSL jack The RJ11 jack labeled "ADSL" is used to connect the VIT-A2 DSL Tester with an appropriate cable to the desired test point in the line (e.g. main distribution frame or cable distribution cabinet) in the exchange correction. A cable (length = approx. 2 m) is included with the tester for this purpose (RJ11 male connector to banana jack/plug combination; on the RJ11 male connector, the middle two contacts 3 and 4 are used for wires a and b). 3.4 LAN jack The RJ45 jack labeled "LAN" is used to connect an optional notebook or PC which is equipped with a 10/100BaseT Ethernet network card. A network cable with a 1:1 configuration is required for this purpose. You can then read out various ADSL or ADSL2+ connection parameters via the LAN interface. Such parameters include the line attenuation, signal-to-noise ratio and the negotiated ATM data rates for the upstream and downstream. For more details, see the documentation for the VIT-A2 Watch software which is used to read out the parameters. 3.5 Internet connection button Use this button to perform an Internet connection test with the VIT-A2 DSL Tester. The test is intended to determine whether an Internet connection can be successfully established via the DSL connection. Since the functioning of this control is closely related to the "Internet test" LED, its operation is described in section 4.8 along with the procedure for the Internet connection test. VIT-A

31 4. Interpretation of the display elements (LEDs) 4.1 LED Power The green LED labeled "Power" indicates whether the VIT-A2 DSL Tester is switched on or off. Depending on the position of the flip switch on the front side of the housing, the LED will either light up in "On / ADSL Test" mode or not light up in "Off / Line Test" mode. In addition, the LED will be off in the switch position "On / ADSL Test" if automatic switch-off of the tester occurs due to low batteries or if a previously active external power supply is switched off or removed. After this occurs, in order to switch the tester back on, you must first move the flip switch to the "Off / Line Test" position and then return it to the "On / ADSL Test" position. When you are not using an external power supply, you should switch the tester off when you are not using it to save battery charge (switch position "Off / Line Test"). VIT-A

32 4.2 LED Low Battery The red "Low Battery" LED warns the user that the batteries have reached a critical state. When this LED lights up, you should be sure to recharge the tester before you use it again. If you continue using the VIT-A2 DSL Tester even though the "Low Battery" LED is lit up, the tester will automatically power off after a certain time in order to avoid a total discharge of the batteries. Stationery operation with an AC adapter is an alternative, of course. The tester will automatically switch from battery power to AC power without interrupting the current measurement as soon as an external power source is connected to the DC jack. 4.3 LED Charge The orange "Charge" LED lights up as long as fast charging of the batteries is underway in the tester. As a prerequisite, the flip switch on the front side of the housing must be in the "Off / Line Test" position and then an external power source (car battery or AC adapter) must be connected to the DC jack. As soon as charging is complete (this will take about three hours when the batteries are fully discharged), the "Charge" LED will go off and the tester will switch over internally to trickle charging. 4.4 LED Line Test The green "Line Test" LED indicates whether a remote power supply for an analog or ISDN connection is present on the line as long as the flip switch is in the "Off / Line Test" position. This LED can indicate the following: LED Line Test not lit up: No power has been detected on the line. This can mean the following: A relevant service (analog or ISDN) is not provided on the line The measurement was made accidentally behind the splitter on the user side An error exists in the connection of the a/b wires VIT-A2

33 This LED is also inactive when the switch is in the "On / ADSL Test" position. LED Line Test lit up: Power has been detected. This means that an analog or ISDN connection is configured on the line and the a and b wires are properly connected. 4.5 LED ADSL/ADSL2+ The two-tone "ADSL/ADSL2+" LED (green/orange) indicates the status of ADSL connection setup with the DSL access multiplexer in the exchange as long as the flip switch is in the "On / ADSL Test" position. The following displays are possible: LED ADSL/ADSL2+ not lit up: The VIT-A2 DSL Tester is switched off (the flip switch is in the "Off / Line Test" position). LED ADSL/ADSL2+ flashing slowly: The tester is in ready mode and is sending stimuli to set up a connection with the far end (DSLAM). As soon as a response to the activation is received, the connection setup procedure moves to the next phase. The LED indicates this by flashing faster (see below). LED ADSL/ADSL2+ flashing quickly: ADSL connection setup with the DSLAM is underway, i.e. a handshake procedure in compliance with ITU G is taking place first, followed by a synchronization and training phase in compliance with ITU G (for ADSL), G (for ADSL2) or G (for ADSL2+). LED ADSL/ADSL2+ constantly lit: Synchronization with the DSLAM has been successfully completed, i.e. the ADSL or ADSL2+ connection (including the ATM layer) has been established. If this status is maintained (i.e. no immediate resynchronization or flashing of the LED occurs), the DSL test has passed. VIT-A

34 NOTE: This LED also lights up briefly after power-on or after switching to the "ADSL Test" operating mode while the tester is performing a self-test. At this point the LED also shortly lights up orange twice. However, this is not yet related to connection setup since successful synchronization is always preceded by a negotiation phase (as described above). Based on the color of the LED (green or orange), you can determine which DSL service is being used: LED lights up green: ADSL in compliance with ITU G or ADSL2 in compliance with ITU G LED lights up orange: ADSL2+ in compliance with ITU G LED Bluetooth The green "Bluetooth" LED lights up as long as a Bluetooth module is detected and activated. A Bluetooth module is available in the form of an optional plug-in board for the VIT-A2 to allow wireless transfer of DSL connection parameters from the tester to a mobile PDA. This LED does not have any meaning in testers which do not have the Bluetooth module VIT-A2

35 4.7 LED Ethernet The green "Ethernet" LED indicates the presence of an active Ethernet connection. This LED lights up as soon as a PC or notebook is properly connected to the LAN jack using a network cable with a 1:1 configuration. 4.8 Internet test LED The "Internet test" LED shows the status and result of an Internet connection test that you can control with the "Internet connection" button. The test is intended to determine whether an Internet connection can be successfully established via the DSL connection. NOTE: Prior to performing an Internet connection test, you must use the "VIT-A2 Watch" Windows software once to provide proper Internet connection data for the device s Router mode. Please read the corresponding section in the documentation for "VIT-A2 Watch". Prior to performing an Internet connection test, you must ensure that the ADSL link is synchronized. This is the case if the "ADSL/ADSL2+" LED is continuously lit up (see section 4.5). The Internet connection test is in the initial state or in standby if the "Internet test" LED is off. Press the button for about three seconds to initiate the Internet connection test. As soon as the test begins, the VIT-A

36 "Internet test" LED will begin flashing slowly. If the ADSL link is not yet synchronized when you begin the test, the test will enter a waiting state (indicated by slow, interrupted flashing of the "Internet test" LED). The test will proceed once the ADSL connection is ready. You can interrupt an ongoing test at any time by pressing and holding the button. While the test is being interrupted, the "Internet test" LED will indicate this by short, repeated flashing. Once this is complete, the Internet connection test will return to standby, i.e. the LED will go off. As soon as the Internet connection test is completed, the result will be displayed in a PASS/FAIL format using the "Internet test" LED: If the test was successful, the LED will light up continuously. If the test failed, the LED will flash quickly. If you require further error analysis, you can read out the reason for the failure using the VIT-A2 Watch software. In each of these cases, you will still need to exit the test by pressing and holding the button. The "Internet test" LED will go off and the Internet connection test will return to standby. The following table provides a summary of the different possibilities that can occur during the Internet connection test. Généralités sur le testeur DSL VIT-A2 Le testeur DSL VIT-A2 permet au technicien de service en service externe de contrôler de manière rapide et simple la mise à disposition des services ADSL sur une liaison client (ADSL, ADSL2 ainsi que ADSL2+). Le testeur DSL VIT-A2 est raccordé sur la ligne à la place d un modem client en direction du central téléphonique. Les points de mesure possibles pour la connexion sont par exemple le répartiteur principal (HVt), le point de branchement (KVz) ou le point de transmission vers le clíent (ApL). L appareil permet d une part de détecter la présence d une alimentation à distance pour POTS et RNIS sur la ligne pour garantir la connexion correcte des fils a/b ; il permet de contrôler d autre part la possibilité de synchroniser le multiplexeur d accès DSL (DSLAM) avec le central téléphonique. Il est également possible de lire, à l aide d un ordinateur portable raccordé, divers paramètres spécifiques de liaison ADSL et ADSL2+ pour des analyses approfondies via une interface Ethernet intégrée de l appareil. Le calibrage du testeur DSL VIT-A2 n est pas nécessaire. VIT-A

42 3. Définition des connexions et organes de commande 3.1 Connecteur 12V CC Le raccordement du câble de l adaptateur 12 V fourni est effectué sur ce connecteur. Selon la position de l interrupteur à bascule «On / ADSL Test» «Off / Line Test», soit les batteries sont chargées (appareil hors tension) soit le testeur DSL est alimenté en externe ; les batteries étant économisées par la charge de maintien (appareil sous tension). Afin d éviter de nouveaux démarrages permanents du chargement rapide des batteries de l appareil en service réseau et l activation de l interrupteur, le processus de chargement des batteries est uniquement démarré lorsque l interrupteur est d abord mis en position «Off / Line Test» avant que le connecteur du câble d alimentation ne soit relié au connecteur DC. La LED orange «Charge» s allume dans ce cas sur le dessus du boîtier. Les combinaisons possibles entre la position de l interrupteur et le raccordement d une alimentation externe sont récapitulées dans le tableau suivant : VIT-A2

La commutation entre le contrôle d une connexion ADSL correctement établie (position de l interrupteur «ADSL Test») et le test de présence d une tension d alimentation à distance (position de l interrupteur «Line Test») s effectue simultanément. La mise à disposition des services ADSL pour le client est correctement achevée si les tests d alimentation et ADSL sont tous deux réussis. Position de l interrupteur Off / Line Test : La position de l interrupteur «Line Test» permet de détecter si la tension d alimentation à distance est présente pour une liaison analogique ou RNIS sur la ligne testée ; le résultat est indiqué par la LED «Line Test» correspondante sur le dessus du boîtier. Si le test est positif, la connexion correcte des deux fils (a et b) est assurée à la mise à disposition ADSL. L erreur d une connexion par erreur à un fil où cependant un modem ADSL aurait également pu se synchroniser dans des conditions très favorables (telles une faible modération de ligne), est ainsi détectée. Toutefois, le test d alimentation ne doit pas être exécuté après le splitter côté utilisateur en direction du modem du client, car il n y a plus de tension VIT-A

44 continue à cet endroit de la ligne ; il sera donc impossible de déterminer si la connexion des fils a/b est correcte. Position de l interrupteur On / ADSL Test : Avec la position de l interrupteur «ADSL Test» est également contrôlé si une synchronisation est possible avec le multiplexeur d accès DSL (DSLAM) du central téléphonique. Une initialisation (Handshake) est dans ce cas tout d abord effectuée selon le standard ITU G.994.1, puis la liaison est établie conformément aux standards suivants compatibles, selon la consigne de DSLAM : ITU G (ADSL) ITU G (ADSL2) ITU G (ADSL2+) Ceci correspond à une initialisation complète d un modem client conventionnel puisque le testeur DSL VIT-A2 utilise un jeu de chips intégral ADSL/ADSL2+. L état de la liaison actuel peut être lu via la LED respective «ADSL Test» sur le dessus du boîtier (voir le chapitre 4.5). 3.3 Connecteur ADSL Le testeur DSL VIT-A2 est relié via le connecteur RJ11 «ADSL» à l aide d un câble approprié au point de mesure souhaité de la liaison de raccordement (répartiteur principal ou point de branchement par ex.) vers le central téléphonique. Un câble d env. 2 m est fourni avec l appareil dans ce but (connecteur RJ11 sur la combinaison fiches / connecteurs bananes ; les contacts 3 et 4 du centre pour les fils a et b sont utilisés dans le cas du connecteur RJ11). 3.4 Connecteur LAN Le connecteur RJ45 «LAN» permet à l utilisateur de connecter en option un ordinateur portable ou un PC doté d une carte de réseau Ethernet 10/100BaseT. La connexion nécessite un câble réseau (droit 1:1). L interface LAN autorise la lecture de divers paramètres de liaison ADSL et ADSL2+, comme l atténuation de la liaison, le rapport signal/bruit et les débits existants ATM montant et descendant. 45 description précise pour la lecture des paramètres dans la documentation du logiciel respectif VIT-A2 Watch. 3.5 Bouton-poussoir Internet connection Ce bouton-poussoir permet d effectuer un test de connexion à Internet via le testeur DSL VIT-A2. Le but du test est de déterminer si une connexion Internet correcte est possible via la connexion DSL. Comme la fonction de cet élément de commande est étroitement liée au comportement de la LED «Internet test», la commande et le déroulement d un test de connexion sont décrits au chapitre 4.8. VIT-A
