Anyone who works with the system units should be familiar with and understand the safety notices contained in this book. The information in this book is organized by safety areas and by products. Refer to the "Contents" in the section that follows to identify the area or product with which you are working. Read the related information and safety notices before beginning work. The complete information to plan, install, operate, and service the systems and devices is contained in your system library. You should always use the library to guide you through any task. Keep this book with your system library for fast reference to safety-related translations. 5 Definitions of Safety Notices A DANGER notice indicates the presence of a hazard that has the potential of causing death or serious personal injury. A CAUTION notice indicates the presence of a hazard that has the potential of causing moderate or minor personal injury. Individual Safety Notices Safety Notices by Areas The following safety notices are found in the Operator Guides and Service Guides for the system units. Installing, Relocating, or Servicing The following notices are contained in all system unit setup, operator, installation, and service guides. DANGER An electrical outlet that Is not correctly wired could place hazardous voltage on metal parts of the system or the devices that attach to the system. It Is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that the outlet Is correctly wired and grounded to prevent an electrical shock. Before Installing or removing signal cables, ensure that the power cables for the system unit and all attached devices are unplugged. When adding or removing any additional devices to or from the system, ensure that the power cables for those devices are unplugged before the signal cables are connected. If possible, disconnect all power cables from the existing system before you add a device. Use one hand, when possible, to connect or disconnect signal cables to prevent a possible shock from touching two surfaces with different electrical potentials. During an electrical storm, do not connect cables for display stations, printers, telephones, or station protectors for communications lines. CAUTION: This product Is equipped with a 3-wlre power cable and plug for the user's safety. Use this power cable In conjunction with a properly grounded electrical outlet to avoid electrical shock. DANGER To prevent shock hazard, disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet before relocating the system. CAUTION: Do not touch the receptacle or the receptacle faceplate with anything other than your test probes before you have met the requirement in step Safety Information

6 CAUTION: If the reading Is other than infinity, do not proceed! Have the customer make necessary wiring corrections before continuing. Do not turn on the branch circuit CB until all the above steps are satisfactorily completed. Power Supplies The following notice is in some Service Guides. DANGER Do not attempt to open the covers of the power supply. Power supplies are not serviceable and are to be replaced as a unit. Laser The following notice is in some Service Guides. CAUTION: A class 3 laser Is contained In the device. Do not attempt to operate the drive while It Is disassembled. Do not attempt to open the covers of the drive as it Is not serviceable and Is to be replaced as a unit. CAUTION: Do not remove the covers of the IBM 7210 CD-ROM Drive. An invisible laser beam may be present. The repair of the IBM 7210 CD-ROM Drive should be performed by trained service personnel only. Lithium Battery The following notice is in some Service Guides. CAUTION: A lithium battery can cause fire, explosion, or a severe burn. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 100 C (212 F), solder directly to the cell, Incinerate, or expose cell contents to water. Keep away from children. Replace only with the part number specified for your system. Use of another battery may present a risk of fire or explosion. The battery connector is polarized; do not attempt to reverse the polarity. Dispose of the battery according to local regulations. Starved-Electrolyte Lead-Acid Batteries The following notice is in some Operator Guides and Service Guides. CAUTION: Do not Incinerate. Dispose of the battery according to local regulations. The following notice is in some S l~ rvice Guides. CAUTION: The battery connectors are polarized to prevent improper connection. Do not attempt to reverse the polarity. The connectors on the battery cables must be plugged only Into the stationary roceptacles provided. Plugging two battery cables together may cause sparking, overheating, or explosion. ENGLISH 1-3

7 Safety Notices By Products The following safety notices are unique to individual products. CAUTION: Do not attempt to use the handle on the module to lift the entire device (module and enclosure) as a unit. First remove the module; then, use two hands to lift the enclosure. Rack-Type System Units The following notices are in some of the Operator Guides and Service Guides. CAUTION: The power distribution unit outlets provide 200 to 240V ac. Use these outlets only for devices that operate within this voltage range. CAUTION: The battery backup unit outlets provide 300V de. Use these outlets only for devices that operate at this voltage. CAUTION: When the drawer is extended, its weight can turn over a rack that is not steady. Before you pull the drawer out of the rack, ensure that a rack stabilizer is attached to the bottom front of the rack. Do not pull out more than one drawer at a time. The rack can turn over if you pull out more than one drawer at a time. CAUTION: The stabilizer must be firmly attached to the bottom front of the rack to prevent the rack from turning over when the drawers are pulled out of the rack. Do not pull out or install any drawer or feature if the stabilizer Is not attached to the rack. Rack-Mounted Drawers The following notices are in some of the Service Guides. DANGER In the following steps you are going to remove the power cables. These cables are live If the using system Is still turned on. DANGER Electrical Power Is still present In the drawer. Les consignes ATTENTION signalent Ia presence d' un risque pouvant occasionner des blessures ou des dommages corporels mineurs. Consignes de securite particulieres Consignes de securite par themes Les consignes de securite ci-apres se trouvent dans les guides d'utilisation et dans les guides de maintenance des unites centrales. Installation, deplacement et maintenance Les consignes ci-apres sont presentes dans taus les guides d'installation, d'utilisation et de maintenance des unites centrales. DANGER Un mauvais diblage du socle de prise de courant peut provoquer une mise sous tension dangereuse des parties metalliques du systeme ou des unites qui lui sont raccordees. le client a Ia responsabilite de s'assurer que le socle de prise de courant est correctement cable et mis a Ia terre afin d'eviter tout choc electrique. Avant d'installer ou d'6ter les cables d'interface, assurez-vous que les cordons d'alimentation de l'unite centrale et de toutes les unites qui lui sont raccordees sont debranches. lorsque vous ajoutez ou 6tez des unites a ce systeme, assurez-vous que les cordons d'alimentation de ces unites sont debranches avant de raccorder les cables d'interface. Si possible, debranchez tous les cordons d'alimentation du systeme existant avant d'ajouter une unite. Servez-vous d'une seule main chaque fois que possible pour connecter ou deconnecter les cables d'interface afin d'eviter les risques de choc electrique lies au contact entre deux surfaces de potentiel different. Pendant un orage, ne manipulez pas les cables des postes de travail, des lmprimantes, des telephones ou les parafoudres des!ignes de communication. ATTENTION Pour votre securite, ce produit est equipe d'un cordon d'allmentation et d'une fiche de prise de courant (deux poles plus terre). Pour eviler tout risque de choc electrique, branchez ce cordon sur un socle de prise de courant correctement mis a Ia terre. DANGER Pour eviter tout risque de choc electrique, debranchez le cordon d'allmentation du socle de prise de courant avant de deplacer le systeme. 2-2 Safety Information

12 ATTENTION Tant que vous n'avez pas reussl l'etape 8, ne touchez le socle de prise de courant ou Ia plaque du socle qu'avec des sondes de test. N;essayez pas de Ia faire fonctionner lorsqu'elle est demontee. N'essayez pas de l'ouvrir ; elle ne peut etre reparee et dolt etre remplacee au complet. ATTENTION N'ouvrez pas l'unite de dlsque CD-ROM IBM II pourrait s' y trouver un rayon laser Invisible. Conflez Ia reparation de cette unite a des specialistes. Pile au lithium La consigne suivante est presente dans certains guides de maintenance. ATTENTION Prenez garde aux risques d'lncendie, d'explosion ou de broiures graves lies a!'utilisation d'une pile au lithium. Ne rechargez pas Ia pile et ne Ia demontez pas. Ne l'exposez pas a une temperature superieure a 100 C, ne Ia soudez pas, ne Ia faites pas broier et n'en exposez pas le contenu a l'eau. Gardez Ia pile hors de Ia portae des enfants. 13 ATTENTION les connecteurs de l'accumulateur sont polarises pour eviter les erreurs de connexlon. N'essayez pas d'lnverser Ia polarlte. Branchez les connecteurs des cables de l'accumulateur dans les prlses prevues a cet effet. Evitez de brancher ensemble deux cables d'accumulateur, ce qui pourrait causer des etincelles, une surchauffe ou une explosion. ATTENTION N'essayez pas de soulever!'unite (module et boitier) a!'aide de Ia polgnee fixee sur le module. Retlrez d'abord celui-ci puis soulevez le boitier avec les deux mains. Unites centrales montees en armoire Les consignes ci-apres sont presentes dans certains guides d' utilisation et de maintenance. ATTENTION l'unlte de distribution prodult des tensions alternatives comprises entre 200 et 240 V. N'y branchez que des perlpherlques pouvant supporter de telles tensions. ATTENTION La batterie de secours produit des tensions continues de 300 V. N'y branchez que des perlpheriques pouvant supporter de telles tensions. ATTENTION l'armolre risque de basculer lorsque vous retirez un tirolr. Assurez-vous qu'un stabllisateur est fixe au bas de Ia face avant de!'armoire. Ne retirez jamals plus d'un tiroir en meme temps. L'armoire pourrait basculer. ATTENTION Pour ne pas basculer au moment du retralt d'un tiroir,!'armoire est equipee d'un stabllisateur qui dolt etre solldement fixe au bas de sa face avant. Ne retirez pas ou n'lnstallez pas de tlrolr ou de dlsposltlf avant d'avolr verifle que le stabillsateur est bien fixe a!'armoire. Tiroirs montes en armoire Les consignes ci-apres sont presentes dans certains guides de maintenance. 16 Hoofdstuk 3. Veiligheidsinstructies - NEDERLANDS Voor wie is deze handleiding bestemd Deze handleiding bevat veiligheidsinstructies uit de handleidingen van de systeemeenheden. Aile gebruil<ers van een systeemeenheid moeten vertrouwd zijn met deze veiligheidsinstructies en ze ook werkelijk begrijpen. Wat u moet weten De informatie in deze handleiding is ingedeeld per onderhoudscategorie (met veiligheidsinstructie) en per produkt. Raadpleeg de onderstaande inhoudsopgave om het desbetreffende produkt of de desbetreffende onderhoudscategorie op te sporen. Lees eerst de bijbehorende informatie en de veiligheidsinstructies, voordat u begint te werken. De volledige informatie over het plannen, installeren, bedienen en onderhouden van de systemen en bijbehorende apparatuur vindt u in de reeks handleidingen die samen de systeembibliotheek vormen. Bij het uitvoeren van een taak moet u steeds die handleidingen gebruiken. 17 Definities van de veiligheidsinstructies GEVAAR wijst op een toestand die (als u niet voorzichtig bent) tot ernstige verwondingen of zelfs tot de dood kan leiden. LET OP wijst op een toestand die (als u niet voorzichtig bent) tot minder ernstige verwondingen kan leiden. lndividuele veiligheidsinstructies Veiligheidsinstructies per onderhoudscategorie De volgende veiligheidsinstructies komen uit de Operator Guides en Service Guides. lnstallatie, verplaatsing en onderhoud De volgende instructies vindt u in aile handleidingen voor installatie, bediening en onderhoud. GEVAAR! Als een stopcontact niet goed bedraad is, kunnen er gevaarlijk hoge spannlngen komen te staan op metalen onderdelen van het systeem of van de machines die op het systeem zijn aangesloten. De klant is verantwoordelijk voor de juiste bedrading en aarding van het stopcontact om elektrische schokken te vermijden. Zorg ervoor dat de netsnoeren van de systeemeenheid en aile aangesloten machines losgekoppeld zijn voordat de signaalkabels worden aangesloten of losgekoppeld. Wanneer u nleuwe machines aan het systeem toevoegt of van het systeem loskoppelt, zorg er dan voor dat de netsnoeren van deze machines losgekoppeld zijn voordat de slgnaalkabels worden aangesloten. Koppel, zo mogelijk, aile netsnoeren van het bestaande systeem los, voordat u een nieuwe machine aansluit. Gebrulk, zo mogelijk, een hand wanneer u signaalkabels aansluit of loskoppelt. 18 Voedingseenheid LET OP 1: Raak {de afdekplaat van) het stopcontact met niets anders aan dan met uw testvoelers vooraleer u hebt voldaan aan de verelsten van stap 8. LET OP 1: Ga nlet verder met de procedure als u een ander resultaat krijgt dan oneindig! Laat de klant eerst de noodzakelijke wijziglngen aan de bedrading uitvoeren, vooraleer verder te gaan. Schake! de stroomonderbreker van de verdeelkast niet In vooraleer aile bovenstaande stappen punctueel werden uitgevoerd. Voedingseenheden kunnen nlet worden hersteld en moeten volledig worden vervangen Laser De volgende veiligheidsinstructie is te vinden in sommige Service Guides. LET OP 1: Dlt apparaat bevat een laser van categorie 3. Probeer nlet om het station te Iaten werken terwljl het gedemonteerd Is. Probeer de panelen van het station niet te openen. Dlt station kan niet worden hersteld en moet volledig worden vervangen. LET OP 1: Verwljder de afdekplaten van het 7210 CD-ROM station niet. Er kan een onzlchtbare laser-straal aanwezlg zljn. Het IBM 7210 CD-ROM station mag aileen door gekwaliflceerd onderhoudspersoneel onderhouden worden. Lithiumbatterij De volgende veiligheidsinstructie is te vinden in sommige Service Guides. LET OP!: Een llthlumbatterlj kan brand, ontploffing of ernstige brandwonden veroorzaken. U mag de batterlj nlet aan water blootstellen, noch verwarmen boven 100 C, noch herladen, verbranden, solderen of demonteren. Houd de batterlj uit de buurt van klnderen. Vervang de llthlumbatterlj aileen door een batterij met een onderdeelnummer dat speclfiek Is voor uw systeem. Wanneer u een andere batterlj gebrulkt, kan dlt ontplofflngs- of brandgevaar opleveren. De contactpunten van de batterij zijn gepolariseerd; probeer nooit de polariteit om te keren. Volg de plaatselljke reglementering lnzake recyclage. NEDERLANDS 3-3

De aansluitklemmen van de batterijkabels mogen aileen op de daartoe voorziene vaste stekkerbussen worden aangesloten. Door twee batterijkabels in dezelfde stekkerbus te stoppen, kunnen er vonken ontstaan, oververhitting en ontploffingsgevaar. LET OP!: Gebruik nooit de hendel die zich op de module bevindt om de volledige eenheid (module en behuizing) op te heffen. Verwijder eerst de module en gebruik dan uw twee handen om de behuizing op te heffen. LET OP 1: Wanneer de module wordt uitgetroklcen, kan het gewicht een rek dat niet stabiel is, doen kantelen. Zorg ervoor dat de stabilisator is gelnstalleerd op de voorzijde onder aan het rek, voordat de module uit het rek wordt getrokken. Trek niet meer dan een module tegelijkertijd uit het rek, om te vermijden dat het rek omkantelt. LET OP!: De stabilisator moet stevig worden ~Jelnstalleerd op de voorzijde onder aan elk rek. Hiermee voorkomt u dat het rek omkantelt wanneer u laden ulttrekt.
