1 DEPARTAMENTO DE INTERCÂMBIO Programa English Language and US Legal System Program UPenn EDITAL DE PROCESSO SELETIVO A Coordenação do Centro de Simulação e Intercâmbio CSI da Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara, no exercício de suas funções e em parceria com a University of Pennsylvania, torna público à comunidade acadêmica o EDITAL DE PROCESSO SELETIVO para o PROGRAMA ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND US LEGAL SYSTEM PROGRAM UPENN, de acordo com as seguintes disposições: 1 DOS OBJETIVOS 1.1 O Programa visa a preencher até 15 (quinze) vagas para o curso English Language and US Legal System Program, a docentes e discentes, graduandos e mestrandos, da Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara, mediante financiamento a ser promovido nos termos deste Edital. 1.2 O Programa contemplará o financiamento dos custos relativos aos valores do curso e suas taxas, hospedagem, seguro-viagem, traslado-aeroporto e transporte aéreo, sendo este opcional. 1.3 Todos os atos referentes ao PROGRAMA ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND US LEGAL SYSTEM PROGRAM UPENN serão publicados no Integral Notícias, no site do Direito Integral, ( e republicados no Facebook do Centro de Simulação e Intercâmbio ( 2 DAS INSCRIÇÕES E DAS VAGAS 2.1 As inscrições para o processo seletivo estarão abertas do dia 4 a 20 de setembro de 2018, a serem realizadas por meio do Portal Acadêmico.

2 2.2 As vagas serão distribuídas a partir da seguinte composição: a) Professores: no máximo, 2 (duas) vagas; b) Mestrandos: no máximo, 3 (três) vagas; c) Graduandos: no máximo, 10 (dez) vagas. 2.3 À Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara é reservado o direito de livremente redistribuir as vagas entre as categorias, na hipótese em que qualquer delas não alcance seu quantitativo máximo. 3 DO PROCESSO SELETIVO 3.1 A seleção será realizada a partir da nota obtida em prova on-line (OOPT Oxford Online Placement Test) de nivelamento linguístico em inglês, elaborada pela University of Pennsylvania e aplicada pela Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara, no Laboratório de Informática. 3.2 A prova ocorrerá, preferencialmente, na primeira semana de outubro, em data, horário e procedimento a serem posteriormente publicados, por meio de edital próprio. 3.3 Os candidatos aprovados serão devidamente notificados pela Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara. A University of Pennsylvania fornece à Dom Helder Câmara e ao candidato apenas o resultado final da avaliação, ou seja, aprovado ou reprovado. 3.4 O resultado será divulgado até a data provável de 31 de outubro de 2018, observandose que eventuais postergações se referem aos procedimentos administrativos da University of Pennsylvania, responsável pela correção, divulgação e envio dos resultados à Dom Helder Câmara. 3.5 Os candidatos aprovados na prova de nivelamento linguístico serão submetidos ao processo personalizado de seleção, elaborado e aplicado pela Escola Superior Dom Helder, o qual consistirá em entrevista pessoal com todos os candidatos aprovados. A entrevista será regida por critérios objetivos, previamente estabelecidos em edital próprio. 3.6 A classificação dentro do número de vagas, a aprovação no teste de nivelamento linguístico e a aprovação no processo seletivo personalizado não garantem ao candidato a concessão do financiamento pela Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara, sendo necessárias a comprovação das garantias solicitadas pelo Departamento Financeiro da Instituição, bem como a obtenção do visto americano, na categoria exigida pela University of Pennsylvania, cujas despesas serão de inteira e exclusiva responsabilidade do candidato.

3 4 DO FINANCIAMENTO 4.1 A Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara concederá aos candidatos aprovados financiamento para cobertura dos custos descritos e estimados a seguir: a) Dom Helder English Language and US Legal System Program U$ 2.939,00; b) Hospedagem U$ 750,00; c) Seguro-viagem U$ 107,00; d) Traslado-aeroporto U$ 60,00; e) Transporte aéreo U$ 900, É obrigatória a contratação do financiamento com todos os itens acima listados inclusos, salvo em relação ao transporte aéreo, em que é facultado ao solicitante a aquisição de forma autônoma, desde que respeitadas as datas estabelecidas no Programa. 4.3 O financiamento será realizado em até 24 (vinte e quatro) parcelas, mediante o cumprimento dos requisitos de garantia exigidos pelo Departamento Financeiro. 4.4 O financiamento será realizado a partir do valor e da cotação cambiária referente ao dia em que forem efetivamente realizados os pagamentos pela Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara 4.5 O financiamento não abrange os custos relativos à alimentação, transporte interno e gastos pessoais, que serão de inteira e exclusiva responsabilidade dos solicitantes. 5 DO PROGRAMA DE INTERCÂMBIO 5.1 O Programa de Intercâmbio English Language and US Legal System - UPenn será regido conforme o exposto no Anexo I. 5.2 Todos os aprovados deverão obrigatoriamente comparecer a 3 (três) encontros presenciais de preparação para o curso ofertado, a serem realizados na Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara. 6 DAS DISPOSIÇÕES FINAIS 6.1 Os casos omissos ou excepcionais neste edital serão dirimidos pelo Centro de Simulação e Intercâmbio; 6.2 A aprovação neste processo seletivo não vincula a Escola Superior Dom Helder Câmara ou o CSI ao custeio de despesas ou fornecimento de ajuda financeira para os demais custos relacionados ao programa de intercâmbio, que superem o valor do financiamento concedido; 6.3 As dúvidas ou pedidos de esclarecimentos sobre este edital devem ser enviados para

5 ANEXO I Dom Helder Custom Program Program Name: Dom Helder English Language and US Legal System Program ( Dom Helder Program ) Program Dates: June 10 July 5, 2019 (Participant Arrival: June 9; Departure: July 6) Number and Profile of Participants: current law students with intermediate English language proficiency, demonstrated by a test score of TOEFL ibt of 57+, TOEFL PBT of 487+, IELTS of 5.5+, TOEIC of 550+ or an online test administered by the ELP. Program Description: The Dom Helder Program will include academic hours per week that are designed to fulfill these objectives: develop knowledge of the US legal system sharpen communication skills improve understanding of the differences between the Brazilian and US legal systems experience the unique academic and social culture of an Ivy League university Curriculum: Program objectives will be achieved through the following three courses, 3-4 faculty lectures, 2-3 Court visits, and a U.S. Court Case Presentation Project. Course 1: : Exploring Culture across the Disciplines is a core course designed to introduce learners to skills and strategies necessary to succeed in American universities. Using the culture and history of, students will read academic texts, listen to lectures, participate in academic discussions and presentations, perform research, create a reflection video, and build a personal website that showcases their coursework and international experience. Combining authentic material with personal experience, students will finish the course with a better understanding of American culture and what it takes to succeed as an independent learner and researcher. Course 2: Fundamentals of the US Justice System presents an overview of U.S. court proceedings. Using sample cases to guide their explorations, students will learn how trials are conducted in the U.S. with a special focus on the role of lawyers in investigating facts and examining witnesses. The course is divided into two parts, with Part One covering criminal trials, and Part Two focusing on civil litigation. Students will demonstrate their understanding of key course concepts by participating in mini mock trials, in which they attempt to resolve a criminal or civil dispute.

6 Course 3: Landmark Supreme Court Cases provides students with the opportunity to explore key decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court on issues of personal interest, such as civil rights, free speech, and privacy, among others. Students will learn how a case is brought to the Supreme Court and how the justices arrive at a decision. Then, they will work in teams to research the background, ruling, and implications of a select landmark case, and present their research to the class. Faculty Lectures will be given by University of Pennsylvania faculty from a variety of possible disciplines in the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), the Wharton School, and the Law School. Lectures will be relevant to US history and the US legal system. Court Visits will be an opportunity for participants to see the US legal system at work in both and Washington, DC. The Court Case Presentation Project will give the participants the opportunity to research a specific case and present their findings to the class. The project will launch in the third week of the program and will require participants to work in teams and use the skills, content and experiences from their courses, lectures, and field trips. Transportation and ticketing for all events are included in the program fee. University Facilities: Students are entitled to use a variety of University of Pennsylvania facilities including libraries (Van Pelt Library, Fisher Fine Arts Library), museums (University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology, Anthropology, Arthur Ross Gallery) and outdoor recreational facilities (Penn Park). I.D. Cards: The University will provide photographic identification cards to all students. Transportation: ELP will provide roundtrip airport transfer for one group and local transportation for socio-cultural activities. Students are solely responsible for all costs relating to transportation between their origination point(s) and the International Airport. Chaperones: Housing will be provided by ELP for 1 chaperone per 15 participants, as long as there is strong adherence to housing deadlines. Chaperones will be welcome to attend the program orientation and all lectures and other program-specific activities, including the opening and final lunches.

9 Visas: The Participant/Chaperone/Sponsor shall secure the proper visas and identification for entering the USA and for remaining in the USA for the duration of the Program. ELP will provide the Participant/Chaperone/Sponsor with a letter describing the purpose and elements of the program. The Participant/Chaperone/Sponsor will present said letter to officials of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate when requesting visas. The Sponsor shall ensure that the participants and chaperones have the proper visas and identification for entering the USA and for remaining in the USA for the duration of the Program.
