A word on AIPPI The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, generally known under the acronym AIPPI, is the world s leading international organisation dedicated to the development and improvement of intellectual property. It is a politically neutral, non-profit organisation, headquartered in Switzerland, which currently has almost 9000 members, representing more than 100 countries. The objective of AIPPI is to improve and promote the protection of intellectual property on both an international and national basis. It pursues this objective by working for the development, expansion and improvement of international and regional treaties and agreements, and also national laws relating to intellectual property. AIPPI operates by conducting studies of existing national laws and policies, and proposes measures to promote best practices and achieve international harmonisation of law, policy and practice. In this context, AIPPI has become increasingly involved with defining well balanced systems for protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights. A word on AIPPI A Associação Internacional para a Proteção da Propriedade Intelectual, geralmente conhecida pela sigla AIPPI é a maior organização internacional dedicada ao desenvolvimento e aprimoramento da propriedade intelectual. É uma organização imparcial e sem fins lucrativos, sediada na Suíça, que atualmente possui quase 9.000 associados, representando mais de 100 países. O objetivo da AIPPI é aprimorar e promover a proteção da propriedade intelectual, tanto internacional como também nacionalmente. Os esforços na busca deste objetivo são feitos trabalhando para o desenvolvimento, expansão e melhoria dos tratados e acordos regionais e internacionais, e também através de leis nacionais relacionadas à propriedade intelectual. A AIPPI atua realizando estudos acerca das leis e políticas nacionais, propõe medidas para promover melhores práticas, e alcançar harmonia internacional nas leis, políticas e práticas. Neste contexto, tornou-se cada vez mais envolvida com a definição de sistemas equilibrados para proteger e garantir o cumprimento dos direitos da propriedade intelectual. 4

Congress Programme From 2015, AIPPI Congresses will take place every year. The decision-making bodies of AIPPI, the Council of Presidents and the Executive Committee, convene at all Congresses of AIPPI. Congresses are open only to AIPPI members. Normally, about 2000 members attend with around 500 accompanying persons. Forthcoming Congress venues include Milan (2016), Sydney (2017), Cancun (2018), Istanbul (2019) and Hangzhou (2020). As noted above, at AIPPI s Working Committees engage in discussions to achieve a consensus on Resolutions representing the positions of AIPPI. However, a large majority of attendees are there for the excellent networking opportunities and for the educational programme of AIPPI, which typically features a day of workshops on international IP issues relating to pharmaceuticals and two days of international workshops on contemporary IP law issues. In addition, there are special panels of experts discussing current and future developments, mock trials, s of corporate representatives from industry and a women in AIPPI. A partir de 2015 os Congressos da AIPPI serão realizados todos os anos. Os órgãos de decisão da AIPPI, o Conselho dos Presidentes, e o Comitê Executivo se reúnem em todos os Congressos da AIPPI. Os Congressos são abertos apenas para os membros da AIPPI. Normalmente, são cerca de 2.000 associados participantes, e aproximadamente 500 acompanhantes. Os próximos locais a sediar os Congressos incluem Milão (2016), Sydney (2017), Cancun (2018), Istambul (2019) e Hangzhou (2020). Buses - Buses are still the cheapest and most convenient way to get around the South Zone (Zona Sul) of the city due to the high number and frequency of lines running through the area. There are designated bus lanes in most streets that make travel times shorter. For the adventurous or budget traveler, it is worth asking your hotel employees how to navigate the system or which routes to take to arrive at specific locations. However, you should be mindful of questionable characters and your belongings. By night buses are more scarce, and most lines will usually not be running by the time the bars and clubs are full. Except for minibuses, buses now have two doors: passengers get in through the front door and get off through the back. As a general rule in most parts of Brazil, buses stop only when you hail them, by extending the arm. If you don t hail and there are no passengers waiting to get off, the bus simply won t stop. The same can be said if you are on the bus wanting to get off at a particular stop. You should know the surroundings or the name of the intersection of the area you are going, or inquire to the employee operating the turnstile, so you can signal to the driver that you want to get off, or he may not stop! There are no schedules or timetables. Google Maps and the Maps app also has the Rio bus system in it, allowing you to plug your location and destination with step-by-step instructions. Ônibus - Os ônibus ainda são a forma mais barata e mais conveniente para se locomover na Zona Sul da cidade, devido ao elevado número e frequência das linhas que atravessam a área. Há corredores designados a ônibus na maioria dos bairros, que fazem com que o tempo de viagem seja mais curto. Para o viajante aventureiro ou de orçamento curto, vale a pena perguntar aos funcionários do hotel como se locomover no sistema ou que caminhos tomar para chegar a locais específicos. No entanto, você deve estar sempre atento a pessoas suspeitas e aos seus pertences. A noite os ônibus são mais escassos, e a maioria das linhas não estão em circulação no momento em que os bares e clubes estão cheios. Map / Accommodations 10 Accommodation Information Rio de Janeiro offers a great variety of choices in accommodation to suit every budget, from international luxury chains to local hotels and modest hostels. We strongly recommend AIPPI 2015 participants to find accommodation in the Barra da Tijuca region, in order to minimize travel time to Windsor Barra Hotel, the congress venue. Barra da Tijuca is an area where hotel capacity has grown considerably of late: it already offers 4,700 rooms in 48 hotels. Hotel capacity is expected to increase as nine new hotel projects have already been approved, with 4 new hotels expected to open by the end of 2014. A large number of hotels are located on the famous Copacabana, and in the charming neighborhoods of Ipanema or Leblon. Participants choosing to stay in these areas are advised that their travel times to the conference venue will be at least 50-70 minutes each way. The city center ( Centro ) also offers hundreds of rooms with quality and close proximity to public transport, but is also far from the Congress venue. Hotel blocks have been made by BLUMAR, Official Travel Agency, to support all participants of AIPPI 2015, offering reduced rates at selected hotels. Official hotel list will be available later. Social Events Council of President s Dinner Gavea Golf & Country Club In 1920, a group of technicians and directors of the Tramway, Light & Power Company, holding of the company The Rio de Janeiro City Improvements, Company, Ltd., belonging to the Light Group, initiated the contacts to create a golf club in Rio de Janeiro. After determining the intention to create the golf club, the quest to acquire a property that had the necessary features began. The club was officially recognized in 1921, under the name of Rio de Janeiro Golf Club, but it still did not have its own office, or possession of any land. From then on, the search became intense, with the decision, in early 1926, to appoint a director in charge of obtaining further information concerning the The Rio de Janeiro City Improvement Company s owned lands in Gávea. Jantar dos Presidentes do Conselho Em 1920, um grupo de técnicos e dirigentes da Companhia Tramway, Light & Power, holding da empresa The Rio de Janeiro City Improvements, Company, Ltd., pertencente ao Grupo Light, iniciou os contatos para a criação de um clube de golfe no Rio de Janeiro. Definida a intenção de criar o clube de golfe, iniciaram-se as buscas para aquisição de uma propriedade que tivesse as características necessárias. O clube foi oficializado em 1921 com a denominação de Rio de Janeiro Golf Club, ainda sem dispor de sede própria ou da posse de qualquer terreno. A partir de então, a busca tornou-se intensa, decidindo-se, no início de 1926, nomear um diretor encarregado de obter maiores esclarecimentos relativos aos terrenos de propriedade da The Rio de Janeiro City Improvement Company, na Gávea. Descobriram um belíssimo terreno cujas principais atrações eram a belíssima localização, a água abundante e a relativa facilidade com que a casa principal poderia ser transformada em sede para o clube. O terreno adequado para o campo de golfe finalmente havia sido encontrado. Social Events Cultural Evening Cidade das Artes Designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, the Cidade das Artes was built at Barra da Tijuca, in the western section of Rio de Janeiro.
