Provisioning and Activation Provisioning is the staging process for service delivery Is rules-based, organizing the series of tasks necessary to deliver specific services into provisioning plans Lays out the plan for how the service will be configured, and updates Inventory and/or configuration records to reflect the changes on the network Activation systems initialize those portions of the Service that can be Activated by communicating with the Network/Service Elements 4

Functional Architecture Order Management Definition of WO data, access views and processing State Management of WOs Inventory Management Manage persistent information used to support and control provisioning Service Activation Decompose task into activation commands Send activation commands to Network Elements 7
Functional Architecture Policy Management Add security parameters to customer accounts Automated Tasks Dispatcher Dispatches automated tasks to the appropriate application Updates WO state (execution and data) in Order Management 8
Create Work Order The BSS create Work Orders The WO creation request is defined in XML format The WO request is described by a set of parameters: source, type and reference The WO data are embedded into the creation request 9
Work Order Data WO creation data is specified in XML syntax The expected data are specific to the type of WO and are defined by the Order Management Application The WO data are partially checked by the Order Management Application; parameter values are not validated The BSS is responsible for validation of parameter values 10
State of Work Order The state of the WO is composed of its execution state (current task) and its associated data The state of the WO is managed and persisted by OM The state of the WO is updated when a task completes (either manual or automatic) 11
Resolution of Errors Examine the data in the WO Error description, values returned by previous tasks, etc. Try to correct the situation Correct data, etc. If the problem seems to be solved then the WO state is set to Complete / Resolved Otherwise, the WO state is set to Complete / Failed, which triggers rollback operation 12
Completing the Work Order A process can terminates at specific process exit points A process can terminate successfully or with error if manual resolution failed A set of automated tasks are used to clean up and translate error codes for the BSS A WO completion notification is sent to the BSS (includes WO data) 13
