Learning outcomes of the curricular unit Considering students' motivations and biographical trajectories, we aim to: Develop students' critical awareness and capacity of (self) reflection on the relevance of both the social context and the individual and social components of the researcher in the development of a research design; Develop the students' reasoning skills required in scientific research and inherent to the research process, in order to increase the consistency underlying the design of a research (in Social Policy) and to reinforce the validity and reliability of the study; Develop students' knowledge and skills that enable both the identification and formulation of research problems relevant to Social Policy, using the state of art as a starting point, and the definition of study objectives that contribute to the enrichment of scientific knowledge in this area; Develop students' abilities and skills to conceive a research design in Social Policy, considering the problem and the objectives of the study. Procedures in the design of a research Metodologia de Ensino e Avaliação Método expositivo com amplo recurso a exemplos, discussões orientadas sobre componentes do desenho de pesquisa com recurso a materiais de suporte como: artigos científicos, apresentações temáticas por especialistas convidados seguidas de debate, orientações de trabalhos e apresentação de trabalhos pelos alunos. A avaliação será feita através da apresentação por escrito de uma primeira versão do trabalho final (15%); e através da apresentação oral do trabalho final (30%) e apresentação escrita do trabalho final (55%). Teaching and Assesment Methodologies Lectures with frequent illustrations provided by the use of examples, guided discussions on the components of a research design supported by resources such as scientific papers, thematic presentations by invited experts followed by debate, supervision of students' assignments and students? assignments presentations. The assessment is distributed by the written presentation of a first version of the final assignment (15%); the oral presentation of the final assignment (30%) and written presentation of the final assignment (55%).
