OBJETIVOS DE APRENDIZAGEM (CONHECIMENTOS, APTIDÕES E COMPETÊNCIAS A DESENVOLVER PELOS ESTUDANTES) LEARNING OUTCOMES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES TO BE DEVELOPED BY STUDENTS) A disciplina tem como objetivo aprofundar o estudo do texto literário no âmbito das línguas e culturas portuguesas e francesa através da prática da tradução. Partindo do conhecimento da tradição literária portuguesa e das tradições literárias de expressão francesa, esta disciplina assume-se, por um lado, como um espaço de leitura e reflexão crítica sobre literatura e tradução e, por outro, como uma oficina dedicada à (re)escrita de traduções literárias. A disciplina procura fomentar a compreensão das especificidades linguísticas e socioculturais do texto literário em língua francesa com vista à sua tradução e receção no sistema literário português, assim como desenvolver o espírito crítico do/a tradutor/a face à sua atividade tradutória. Objetivos: saber utilizar com rigor científico e segurança os conceitos de obra literária, género literário, tradução de literatura, tradução literária e tradução (in)direta.

2 conhecer a história do francês como língua literária, mediante a análise de um corpus de obras canónicas da História da Literatura Francesa bem como a produção de investigação sobre a tradução destas obras em Portugal. reconhecer os distintos agentes envolvidos no mercado da tradução literária, avaliando crítica e criteriosamente as suas responsabilidades, direitos e deveres. tomar consciência e saber problematizar o papel veicular da língua francesa quer na Europa até meados do século XX quer, principal e presentemente, nos países da Francofonia. Adquirir competências: ao nível da interpretação e produção textual e paratextual. na tradução para português de textos literários contemporâneos publicados em língua francesa nos géneros: romance, conto, novela e ensaio. This course aims to consolidate, through the practice of translation, the study of the literary text in the context of the Portuguese and French languages and cultures. Based on the knowledge of both the Portuguese and the French language literary tradition, this course presents itself as a space for reading and critically reflecting on literature and translation on the one hand and, on the other hand, as a workshop for the (re)writing of literary translations. This course will attempt to examine the linguistic and socio-cultural specificities of the French language literary text in relation to its translation and reception in the Portuguese literary system, as well as to develop the translator s critical stance towards his or her own translation work. Objectives: knowing how to use the following concepts in a confident and scholarly rigorous manner: literary work, literary genre, translation of literature, literary translation and (in)direct translation. learning about the history of French as a literary language, drawing on the analysis of a selected corpus of canonical works from the French literary tradition and conducting research about existing published translations of these works in Portugal. learning to identify the various agents involved in the production and distribution of literary translations, carefully and critically examining their responsibilities, rights, and obligations. Being able to acknowledge and discuss the role of French as a key pivot language within the European context (until the mid-20th century) and amongst the Francophone countries (in the past and today). Acquiring competencies: in regards to the textual and paratextual interpretation and production of literary works. in translating (into Portuguese) contemporary literary texts published French from the following genres: novel, short story and novellas.

CONTEÚDOS PROGRAMÁTICOS SYLLABUS Esta disciplina aborda a tradução de textos literários em língua francesa, especificamente de narrativas ficcionais romance, conto e novela - e ensaio publicados no século XXI. De forma a preparar os alunos para a prática da tradução literária, o programa está organizado em diferentes módulos: 1. A Figura do tradutor literário quem é o tradutor literário e quais são as suas competências? o que se entende por tradução literária? plágio em tradução e estilo e ética do tradutor literário. 2. Paratextos em tradução literária o que é o paratexto em literatura traduzida? Para que servem os diferentes elementos paratextuais: o título, a capa/contracapa, a folha de rosto/ficha técnica, prefácio/posfácio ou a nota de rodapé? conhecer os distintos agentes que participam/colaboram no processo de tradução. 3. So as to prepare students for the practice of literary translation, the program is organized into different modules: 1. The Figure of the literary translator who is the literary translator and what skills does he or she have? how can we define literary translation? Plagiarism and ethics in translation, translators styles. 2. Paratexts in literary translation

4 what is the paratext in literary translation. paratextual elements such as title, cover/back-cover, title page/copyright, prefaces/postfaces and footnotes: what are they good for? 3. Milestones in the history of French literature the canon in French literature. brief excursion into the French language literary history. 4. METODOLOGIA DE ENSINO (AVALIAÇÃO INCLUÍDA) TEACHING METHODOLOGY (INCLUDING ASSESSMENT) A metodologia de ensino nesta disciplina é teórico-prática. Num primeiro momento, a unidade curricular consistirá em sessões de cariz teórico dedicadas ao estudo da figura do tradutor e da história literária de expressão francesa. Num segundo momento promoverse-á a prática intensiva de tradução de textos literários de língua francesa através (i) da análise literária dos textos de partida (ii) da discussão de problemas de tradução; (iii) do cotejo e debate das diferentes soluções propostas pelos alunos. A avaliação dos alunos é contínua, decorrendo daí que a assiduidade e a participação nas aulas são fundamentais. A disciplina contará com os seguintes elementos de avaliação: Assiduidade e participação nas aulas: 15% Traduções: 25% Apresentação oral: 15% Trabalho escrito: 15% Teste final: 30% Condições essenciais para o aproveitamento nesta disciplina são a capacidade e disponibilidade para refletir e discutir os temas, textos e dificuldades que se apresentem tanto ao nível da teoria como da prática da tradução, um bom domínio das línguas portuguesa e francesa e algum espírito de investigação.

5 Qualquer evidência de plágio será punida com a atribuição de zero ao elemento de avaliação que tenha utilizado indevidamente textos de terceiros. The teaching methodology adopted for this course is theoretical and practical. The course will begin with a cluster of theoretical sessions dedicated to studying the figure of the literary translator and the history of the French language literary tradition. Secondly, this class will promote the intensive practice of translating French language literary works through (i) the literary analysis of the proposed source texts; (ii) the discussion of the problems arising during the translation process; (iii) the comparison and debate of the different translation solutions proposed by the students. The evaluation will be based on the work conducted throughout the semester, which means that class attendance and participation are essential. Students will be assessed according to the following criteria: Attendance and participation: 15% Translations: 25% Oral presentation: 15% Written paper: 20% Final Exam: 25% The prerequisites for the successful completion of this course are the ability and willingness to reflect on and discuss the topics introduced in this class, as well as the theoretical and practical issues that will arise during the semester; students are also expected to have a good command of the Portuguese and French languages and a fair amount of interest in conducting research on the topic of literary translation. Any evidence of plagiarism shall be penalized with a mark of zero (0). Plagiarism is the improper use of a text and/or ideas that are not one s own. 8.
