3 This coming week, we enter into the Lenten Season with Ash Wednesday. Each year, Lent is designed to help us renew our hearts and our faith as we approach the celebration of Easter and the Resurrection. We wear the ashes on our foreheads as a sign that we have embraced this season and that we plan to observe Lent in our lives. One of the pervading themes of this season is the longing for an end of winter and the onset of the new life of spring. As the weeks go by, we try to build up that yearning. The desert ambiance and the cacti plants in our sanctuary simulate the barrenness that reaches out for new life. This year, however, I think we already have a built-in longing for spring and the new life of Easter! No need to look further than our backyards to see how the life of nature has been buried deep under the snowdrifts. Once again as I write, the air is filled with another snowfall that promises a foot or more and winter continues at full force. But in spite of it all, we continue to cling to the hope of warmer days and budding trees and flowers. This morning, I heard from Fr. Peter Devlin from Dublin with his prospective dates to be in Hudson. He mentioned that even in Ireland he heard that Hudson got some of the highest snow depths! Our town has made world news!!! With the from Fr. Peter, it is a reminder that the seasons will change and we will once again experience Spring! In the meantime, we enter into this time of lent and pray that God will renew our spirits and bring us to life once again. Readings for the Week of February 15, 2015 Sunday: Lv 13:1-2, 44-46/1 Cor 10: :1/Mk 1:40-45 Monday: Gn 4:1-15, 25/Mk 8:11-13 Tuesday: Gn 6:5-8; 7:1-5, 10/Mk 8:14-21 Wednesday: Jl 2:12-18/2 Cor 5:20--6:2/Mt 6:1-6, Thursday: Dt 30:15-20/Lk 9:22-25 Friday: Is 58:1-9a/Mt 9:14-15 Saturday: Is 58:9b-14/Lk 5:27-32 Next Sunday: Gn 9:8-15/1 Pt 3:18-22/Mk 1:12-15 HUDSON, MA Fr. Assim seja! **NEW HOURS** Monday/Tues 9:00am - 3:00pm Thursday/Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm 3 CLOSED FOR PRESIDENTS DAY FEB 16, 2015

5 Following the Law in Leviticus, lepers had to cooperate in their banishment from society. The leper s desperation led him to risk rejection in seeking Jesus s help. Reflect on a time when you realized that only God could help you with what you were facing. Sometimes we find it difficult to deal with the troubles or illness of others; our avoidance can lead them to feel isolated and unrecognized. This week, listen attentively to someone who is suffering without offering your own advice. At Home with the Word 2015 SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Parish Nurse, Mary Ellen Bartlett Alcohol And Drug Abuse Hurts Everyone In The Family: It Doesn t Have To Hurt! Dependence on alcohol and drugs is our most serous national public health problem. It is prevalent among rich and poor, in all regions of the country, and all ethnic and social groups. Most individuals who abuse alcohol and drugs have jobs and are productive members of society creating a false hope in the family that it s not that bad. The problem is that addictions tend to worsen over time, hurting both the addicted person and all the family members. It is especially damaging to your children and adolescents. People with this illness really may believe that they drink normally or that everyone takes drugs. These false beliefs are called denial; this denial is part of the illness. If someone close to you misuses alcohol or drugs, the first step is to be honest about the problem and to seek help for yourself, your family, and your loved one. Children in families experiencing alcohol or drug abuse need attention, guidance and support. They may be growing up in homes in which the problems are either denied or covered up. These children need to have their experiences validated. They also need safe, reliable adults in whom to confide and who will support them, reassure them, and provide them with appropriate help for their age. THEY NEED TO HAVE FUN AND JUST BE KIDS. Celebration of Ash Wednesday, February 18th Mass with Ashes 9:00am Prayer Service with Ashes 4:00pm Mass with Ashes 7:00pm Stations of the Cross will be every Friday at 7:00pm beginning February 20th in the upper church 5 It is important to talk honestly with children about what is happening in the family and to help them express their concerns and feelings. Children living with alcohol and drug abuse in the family can benefit from participating in education support groups. Being associated with the activities of a faith community can also help. These children need to know they are NOT TO BLAME AND THEY ARE NOT ALONE. There is help here in Hudson. Look in the Yellow Pages under Alcoholism or call the Hudson Health Department and ask for licensed treatment programs in the community. Keep trying until you find the right help for your loved one, yourself and your family. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me at or x324 or SAMHSA S National HELP,
6 Sunday Throughout theweek: FEBRUARY - BLACK HISTORY MONTH Sharing the Gospel It is not fun to be sick. You miss your friends at school. You can't go outside to play. On top of being bored and lonely, you don't feel well at all. The man with leprosy in today's Gospel was sick a long, long time. He was really bored, lonely, and feeling awful. There was no medicine for leprosy. Jesus was the only one who could help him. Prayer God, you have the power to heal. Help me to trust you, even when I'm sick. Something to Draw Draw a picture of yourself sick in bed. Mission for the Week Visit the sick. Make a card. Take a treat to share. Give them something to read. Pray for them before you leave. You will brighten their day. 6
