To build and operate a sustainable mining operation in the heart of the Amazon that is a benchmark for others; this is the challenge that Alcoa has embraced in the municipality of Juruti, in the West of Para State, on the banks of the Amazon River. As is well known, Sustainability, which is indispensable for the long-life of any project, is supported on three pillars: economic success, environmental excellence and social progress. Below are just some of the activities that have already been developed to promote a closer relationship with the community: Juruti Sustainability Council Alcoa played a fundamental role in the setting up of the Sustainable Juruti Council, an important forum for ample and transparent dialogue in the city. Representatives from local authorities, companies and civil society organizations interact on the Council, which will shortly be able to count on support from the sustainability indicators and a sustainable development fund. A Alcoa comprometeu-se na fase de Implantação a utilizar pelo menos 70% da mão de obra da região. A Alcoa já está preparando a mão de obra local para a fase de Operação. A contratação de serviços e fornecedores para a construção da unidade de Juruti deverá movimentar R$ 1,14 bilhão nos próximos anos. Parte desse volume tem sido destinado aos empreendedores regionais.

Iniciativas de proteção aos direitos de crianças e adolescentes, como o Programa Tecendo Redes, em parceria com o Instituto WCF Brasil (World Child Foundation, Fundação Mundial da Criança), fortalecem a Segurança e a Justiça no município. Outros reforços importantes foram os investimentos diretos na construção de alojamento para a Polícia Militar e a Delegacia da Polícia Civil, além do Fórum de Justiça de Juruti. E para enfrentar desafi os históricos, a Alcoa é parceira da comunidade e do Poder Público em investimentos na infraestrutura urbana e rural do município, tendo também participado diretamente no apoio à elaboração do Plano Diretor do Município. Qualidade de vida Agenda Positiva Proposta de ações complementares desenvolvida em conjunto com a Prefeitura de Juruti e a comunidade, promovendo a melhoria da qualidade de vida da população local a partir do apoio e incentivo à execução de obras de infraestrutura rural e urbana, e outras ações de fortalecimento da saúde, educação, cultura, meio ambiente, segurança pública e justiça, e assistência social. The Collective Compensation Matrix of the Socó I Settlement is the result of the dialogue between the region s communities, APRAS (Association of Rural Producers of the Socó I Settlement) and INCRA (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform).
