RELEASE A ideia de que a História facsimiliza-se em cada indivíduo está presente nos trabalhos que compõem a exposição símile-fac. No título, a inversão de fac-símile, que significa em latim fazer igual, subverte a ordem entre as duas palavras que formam o termo, referindo-se a uma possível mudança de ordem e hierarquia entre o original e a cópia, passado e presente. Admitindo a cultura, os livros e o ensino como algumas das vias pelas quais a História passa pelo indivíduo, a série Didática de ensino para si mesmo (in progress) () faz uso de materiais impressos como livros técnicos, postais e cadernos para compor pôsteres que ressignificam termos como auteridade, utopia, distopia, dia-a-dia, ponto de fuga, entre outros. Cada poster é como um mapa que propõe um significado aleatório, clandestino e pessoal para termos precisos e socialmente constituídos. A escola também está presente na obra que dá nome à exposição, símile-fac (2012). Neste trabalho, algumas páginas de um caderno preenchido na década de 1960, encontrado em um mercado de pulgas, são facsimilizadas numa lousa onde o texto é copiado com giz. Esta instalação inverte a ordem natural na qual o aluno copia o que está na lousa, para a lousa que copia o que está no caderno, mais uma vez quebrando a hierarquia entre cópia e original, particular e público. O texto em francês, copiado na lousa, fala sobre informática e computadores, o que é de se estranhar já que o caderno é visivelmente antigo. Num trecho, o texto prevê que no mundo haverá, em 1975, 110 mil computadores. 36 () trata-se de um jornal que será distribuído na exposição. Sua capa reproduz a revista Manchete que, na época, anunciou o golpe de 1964 no Brasil. No interior do jornal, há a reprodução da primeira reportagem que saiu na grande imprensa brasileira sobre o Tropicalismo, na revista O Cruzeiro de abril de 1968. Margeando os fac-símiles históricos, há um texto em primeira pessoa, de alguém que se sente transpassado pela História e, ao mesmo tempo, gostaria de estar à margem dela. Projeção (2012) é uma instalação feita com quinze filmes 8 mm pornográficos dos anos 1970. Os filmes são empilhados junto à parede, sem iluminação direta. A impossibilidade de assisti-los, fazendo deles um objeto e não mais o devir da projeção, comenta o fato das técnicas tenderem a serem superadas e extintas, enquanto que assuntos e temas atravessam épocas. Como no caso da porno grafia, que veio da pintura grega, passou pela fotografia, cinema e hoje está na internet. Paisinho (2012) é a apropriação de uma lata com água potável para náufragos, produzida pela Marinha brasileira no início dos anos 1970. As informações do rótulo aludem à segurança, à ordem, às regras, à hierarquia e à possibilidade de um estado de exceção, o que coincide com a ditadura no país, na época em que a lata foi fabricada, mas também a ideias básicas do que se chama de nação. O título, diminutivo de país, refere-se ao pedaço real de país, contido na lata. Também faz um trocadilho com a palavra pai, que apesar de ter o diminutivo escrito com z, pode confundir-se com o diminutivo de país, num lapso de leitura. Além da história política, Paisinho também é uma referência à história da arte, pois reafirma a possibilidade do ready-made duchampiano ainda em 2012, e faz referência às sopas Campbells de Andy Warhol e à merda de artista de Piero Manzoni, ambas bem próximas à época em que a lata de água foi produzida pela Marinha brasileira. Em Antilla () também há o cruzamento da história política com a história da arte. A obra é formada por 42 posteres feitos a partir de mapas fotografados do Atlas de Cuba, editado em 1978 pelo governo cubano em homenagem ao 20 aniversário da revolução. Cada mapa tem um tema, como Físico, Geologia, Chuvas, População Economicamente Ativa, Fatos Políticos, Colonização etc. As imagens foram feitas como se os mapas fossem paisagens fotografadas de um ângulo aéreo, e esse sobrevoo é reproduzido na configuração circular da instalação, como um voo de reconhecimento. Esta configuração se refere também a forma clássica das land art dos anos 1970, que usavam fragmentos de paisagem natural pedras, terra, gravetos etc, enquanto que Antilla é formada por fragmentos de representação de paisagem: os mapas. A maioria dos trabalhos da exposição símile-fac se apropria de materiais, fatos, referências e imagens do período entre 1960-1970, época na qual se convencionou localizar o início do pós-modernismo. É também o período pelo qual Fabio Morais acredita que seu presente pessoal está historicamente mais contaminado.
RELEASE The idea that culture (History) exists as a facsimile in each individual is found throughout the set of artworks that make up the exhibition símile-fac by Fabio Morais. In the title, the inversion of the Latin term fac-simile to make the same subverts the order between the two words to suggest a possible hierarchical change between original and copy, past and present. Admitting culture as one of the routes by which history touches the path of each individual, the series Didática de ensino para si mesmo (in progress) [A Didactics for Teaching Yourself (in Progress)] () makes use of printed materials like technical books, postcards and notebooks to compose posters that re-signify terms such as otherness, utopia, dystopia, everyday life, the vanishing point, and others. Each one of them functions as a map that proposes a random, clandestine and personal meaning for precise and socially established terms. Dynamics employed in the school are present in the work that provides the title for the exhibition símile-fac (2012). In it, some pages of a notebook written in French in the 1960s, found in a flea market, were copied or facsimilized on the blackboard that occupies one of the walls of the gallery s hall 2. In this way, Morais destabilizes the normal procedure used in elementary schools where the student copies what is on the blackboard, in this case copying on the blackboard what is in the notebook and thereby twisting the hierarchy between copy and original, private and public. The artwork 36 (), a multiple in the format of a newspaper that will be distributed at no charge during the period of the exhibition, reproduces the cover of the 1964 edition of the magazine Manchete that announced the military coup which toppled the government of President João Goulart. Inside the newspaper, however, Morais reproduces the first article published in the Brazilian press on Tropicalismo, in April 1968, in the magazine O Cruzeiro. 36 also includes a text in the first person, written by a fictitious character who is steeped in history and yet simultaneously aims to be at the margin of it. In the installation Projeção [Projection] (2012), created with fifteen 8-mm pornographic films from the 1970s, piled against the wall, Morais makes it impossible for the observer to see the images, turning the films into simple objects bereft of the transformation of projection, thus suggesting the brevity of the techniques when compared to the subjects and themes that extend through decades. In Antilla, an installation created for the 8th Bienal do Mercosul, in, Morais crosses political history with art history. The work consists of 42 posters made based on photographed maps from the Atlas de Cuba [Atlas of Cuba]. Published in 1978 by the Cuban government in homage to the 20th anniversary of the revolution, each map in the atlas has a theme, such as topography, geology, rainfall, economically active population, political facts, colonization, etc. The images were made as though the maps were landscapes photographed from an aerial angle, and this fly-over is reproduced in the circular configuration that Morais chose for setting up the installation. This configuration also refers to the classic form of land art practiced in the 1970s, which used fragments of the natural landscape stones, soil, driftwood, etc. while Antilla is made up of fragments of the representation of the landscape: maps. Most of the artworks featured in the solo show símile-fac appropriate materials, facts, references and images taken from the 1960s and 70s, an initial period of postmodernism that profoundly influenced Morais s production.
