Orienting em expansão A Orienting está a iniciar o processo de expansão para novas instituições, de modo a estender o seu espectro de acção a mais comunidades carenciadas. Com base em pesquisas anteriores, as voluntárias Marina e Matilde estão já a identificar potenciais novas instituições parceiras. Este trabalho assenta no princípio de dedicar esforços a inverter ciclos de pobreza graves e nos valores da Orienting: transparência, honestidade e respeito. Deste modo, asseguramos a credibilidade e relevância da nossa acção. É um assunto que terá desenvolvimentos até ao final deste período de voluntariado! Orienting s mission expands Orienting is beginning the process of expanding to new institutions, in order to extend the scope of its action to more underprivileged communities. Supported on some previous research, volunteers Marina and Matilde are already identifying potential new partner institutions. This work is based on the principle of allocating effort to reverse troublesome poverty cycles and on Orienting s values: transparency, honesty and respect. This way we ensure the credibility and relevance of our action. This is a subject that will, surely, be developed until the end of this period of volunteering! 3
SHAC com plano escolar Não obstante a responsabilidade da pesquisa de novas instituições parceiras, a Marina e a Matilde não têm deixado de colaborar com grande competência na SHAC. Um dos principais marcos foi a definição de um plano escolar e de um sistema de avaliação que garantem um bom funcionamento das aulas nesta instituição. A continuidade do ensino é um dos grandes desafios nestas escolas que acolhem jovens de comunidades carenciadas e que dependem da colaboração de voluntários que, naturalmente, se vão sucedendo sem saber ao certo o que já foi leccionado. A planificação permite uma aprendizagem consequente e profícua aos jovens da SHAC! SHAC has an academic plan Although they have the responsibility of searching for new partner institutions, Marina and Matilde still play a competent and important role on SHAC. One of the main achievements was defining a learning plan and evaluation system that ensure a proper function of classes in this institution. Learning continuity is a big challenge in these schools that welcome kids from underdeveloped communities and depend on the collaboration of volunteers who, naturally, replace each other without knowing precisely what has been taught previously. Planning allows consequent and fruitful learning to SHAC s youngsters! 4
Horta sustentável na CDO A horta sustentável é um projecto-chave para a CDO e, consequentemente, para a Orienting. Como tal, tem sido uma prioridade para a Mariana e o José Maria, que têm obtido diversos desenvolvimentos no planeamento da implementação deste projecto. Já são conhecidas as principais necessidades em termos de preparação do terreno e já foram contactados fornecedores, a acrescer ao trabalho já feito a nível de custos e estudo do que plantar. Deste modo, o arranque em definitivo da horta poderá estar para muito breve! Esta aposta é um exemplo essencial do que a acção da Orienting pretende: autonomizar as pessoas carenciadas e contribuir para a sustentabilidade de condições de vida básicas. CDO s sustainable plantation The sustainable plantation is a key project for CDO and, consequently, for Orienting. As such, it has been a priority for Mariana and José Maria, who have gotten many developments in planning this project. The main needs in terms of field preparation are already known and suppliers have been contacted, summing up to the previous budgeting work and the study of what to plant. This way, the definitive start of the plantation s implementation may be coming very soon! This project is an essential example of the action Orienting intends to have: provide underprivileged people with autonomy and contribute to the sustainability of basic life conditions. 5
Troféu Português do Voluntariado A Associação Orienting está entre as 23 candidaturas aceites ao Troféu Português do Voluntariado, que tem este ano a sua 5ª edição. Este prémio foi instituído pela Confederação Portuguesa do Voluntariado como forma de homenagear o trabalho dos voluntários portugueses e incentivar esta prática. Nas edições anteriores, foram galardoados a Confederação Portuguesa das Colectividades de Cultura, Recreio e Desporto (por duas vezes), a Associação Florinhas do Vouga e a Fundação PT. O vencedor será anunciado no dia 5 de Dezembro, Dia Internacional do Voluntário, sendo o Júri constituído por Rui Rama da Silva (presidente do Júri), Maria José Ritta, Paula Guimarães, Duarte Caldeira e Conceição Lino. Portuguese Trophy for Volunteering Projects Orienting is among the 23 accepted applications to the Portuguese Trophy for Volunteering Projects (Troféu Português do Voluntariado), which has its 5 th edition this year. This award was implemented by Confederação Portuguesa do Voluntariado as a way to honor the work of portuguese volunteers and encourage this practice. Sobre a Orienting Fundada em Fevereiro de 2012 por três alunos da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, a Associação Orienting é uma Instituição Privada de Solidariedade Social. Actualmente conta com mais de 20 membros motivados em levar a cabo a missão da Orienting, como actividade complementar à formação académica ou ao emprego. A Orienting pretende dinamizar oportunidades, garantindo a dignidade, independência e desenvolvimento sustentável nas comunidades onde opera. Estes objectivos são atingidos através de programas de voluntariado que ajudam a dotar as instituições parceiras de mecanismos necessários à vida humana, apostando da responsabilização das mesmas através da formação e educação. 7
About Orienting Founded in February 2012 by three students from the Portuguese Catholic University, Associação Orienting is a non-profit organization. Currently, more than 20 members are involved and motivated to take Orienting s mission forward, as a complementary activity to their studies or jobs. Orienting aims at promoting opportunities, ensuring dignity, independence and sustainable development for the communities with which it cooperates. These goals are fulfilled through volunteer programs which help providing the partner institutions with basic, essential mechanisms and infrastructures. Within this frame, Orienting understands education and training as key to the empowerment of these underdeveloped communities. 8
