MARIANA CORREIA 1 page CV Mariana Correia has a PhD in Heritage Conservation of World Heritage Sites (2010) from Oxford Brookes University, UK; an Earthen Architecture Master Diploma (2000) from CRAterre-ENSAG, France; Postgraduate Studies on Cultural Routes from the Council of Europe (1999) and a Masters (2002) and Architecture degree (1995) from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. She was honored with a scholarship from the Portuguese governement to develop her PhD at Oxford, UK; and a scholarship from the French governement to do her Masters in Grenoble, France. M. Correia is an international consultant for ICOMOS (since 2010), regarding assessment of World Heritage Sites having done 4 WHS desk-reviews and been invited for 3 site missions. She represented ICOMOS at the UNESCO-ICOMOS Joint Reactive Mission to Arg-E Bam, in Iran; and she was invited to represent ICOMOS-UNESCO at the Sanaa Mission in Yemen (suspended due to unrest). She will be representing ICOMOS-UNESCO in a technical evaluation mission for a 2016 nominated site, in Iran. She is a nominator for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (since 2009) and an evaluator for the World Monument Watch (since 2010); Steering Committee Member (2012-2015) of the program WHEAP- UNESCO (World Heritage Earthen Architecture Program from UNESCO); Steering Committee member of the annual training Festival ArchiTerre from the Algerian Ministry of Culture (since 2011); Peer Review Committee member of the Seismic Retrofitting Project (SRP) from the Getty Conservation Institute (since 2014); and President of the Steering Committee of the Earthen Architecture Centre of Mopti in Mali, from the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (since 2015), with annual coordination meetings; Member of the Board of Trustees of two Heritage Foundations, the Portuguese Foundation Convento da Orada (www.fundacaoconventodaorada.pt) and the Spanish Foundation Antonio Font de Bedoya (www.fundacionantoniofontdebedoya.es), she is co-founder of the Iberian Prize on Vernacular Architecture Research. She is also an ICOMOS-ISCEAH and ICOMOS-CIAV expert; Coordination council member of the Iberian American Network PROTERRA (with 120 experts from 19 countries) and International Coordinator of PROTERRA (from 2011 to 2014). She is a Scientific Committee member of UNESCO Chair-Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures and Sustainable development. She was awarded with the 2016 United Nations UNITAR course diploma in Japan, regarding World Heritage Sites; and the ICCROM 2015 course on Comunication and Teaching skills in Conservation and Science, in Rome, Italy. Since 2010, she is the President of the Board of Directors at Escola Superior Gallaecia, a Portuguese university school. She is the Director of CI-ESG Research Center at ESG (with European, Iberian and National research projects) (www.esg.pt/ciesg); Professor of History and Theory of Conservation and Restoration and Coordinator of the dissertation s course. She is Supervisor of several PhD thesis and Master dissertations, and the Principal Researcher and Project Leader of the European Projects 3dPast ( Leaving and Virtual Visiting European World Heritage (2016-2020) supported by UNESCO-WHEAP programme; and VerSus ( Lessons from Vernacular Heritage to Sustainable Architecture (2012-2014): www.esg.pt/versus). Also, of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) research project SEISMIC-V ( Vernacular Seismic Culture in Portugal (2013-2015): www.esg.pt/seismic-v). She is an Editorial Advisory Board member of the Journal of Cultural Heritage Management and Sustainable Development, and an Advisory Board member of the Spanish Journal of Archaeology of Architecture. Author and editor of 23 books and reports and more than 100 chapters and papers published in earthen architecture, vernacular heritage, cultural heritage, conservation, and sustainable development. She does critical reviews for five international journals and gave lectures, classes and keynote openings in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, in 5 continents.
