No fim desta UC os alunos deverão estar aptos a: 1) demonstrar conhecimento e compreensão sobre biologia, ciclos de vida, manifestações clinicas, diagnóstico,tratamento e estratégias de controlo das principias infecções parasitárias humanas 2) demonstrar conhecimento e compreensão da biologia e estratégias de controlo de vectores e hospedeiros intermediários de parasitas humanos 3) demonstrar conhecimento e compreensãoo da biologia, manifestações clinicas, diagnóstico, tratamento e prevenção das principais infecções fungicas humanas 4) demonstrar competências na comunicação de informação cientifica 5) identificar questões pertinentes para investigação cientifica no ambito das infecções parasitárias e fungicas humanas Unidade Curricular: [ ] PARASITOLOGIA E MICOLOGIA MÉDICA DATA: /6

3 Conteúdos programáticos 1) Protozoários e helmintas: taxonomia, biologia, ciclos de vida, manifestações clinicas, diagnóstico,tratamento e prevenção 2) vectores e hospedeiros intermediários de parasitas humanos: estratégias de controlo 3) Interacções patógeno-hospedeiro 4) Micologia: estrutura e tipos de fungos 5) Principais tipos de micoses humanas 6) infecções parasitárias e fúngicas em estados de imunocompetência e imunodepressão 7) Diagnóstico laboratorial de protozoários, helmintas e fungos 8) Opções terapêuticas de doenças provocadas por protozoários, helmintas e fungos 9) Comunicação cientifica: correcção e adequação de termos cientificos e exemplos de tipos recomendados de referências bibliograficas Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída) Nas T e TP utiliza-se o método expositivo com projecção de apresentações Powerpoint. Nas TP utiliza-se iconografia (fotoquestionários interactivos) e discussão e resolução de exercicios em grupo com base na analise de artigos/documentos cientificos. Nas P procede-se à observação microscópica de microorganismos e realização de outros testes de diagnostico, com elaboração final de relatórios, reforçando os conhecimentos adquiridos das T e TP. Os S destinam-se à apresentação oral pelos alunos (em grupos de 3) dos resultados da pesquisa de publicações relevantes sobre questões propostas pela docente.a avaliação final inclui avaliação das P (assiduidade, participação e relatórios):10% ; avaliação dos S (20%)-são parametros de avaliação: organização e conhecimento integral do trabalho,desenvolvimento adequado do tema, correcção e adequação dos termos cientificos e bibliografia cientifica actualizada e o exame teórico final (70%) com questões de escolha multipla. At the end of this UC students should be able to: 1) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of biology, life cycles, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and control strategies of the major human parasitic infections 2) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the biology and strategies of control of vectors and intermediate hosts of human parasites 3) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of biology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of major human fungal infections 4) demonstrate competences in the communication of scientific information 5) identify relevant questions for scientific research regarding human parasitic and fungal infections Syllabus 1) Protozoa and helminths: taxonomy, biology, life cycles, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and prevention 2) Vectors and intermediate hosts: control strategies 3) Host-pathogen interactions 4) Mycology: structure and types of fungi 5) Main types of human mycoses 6) parasitic and fungal infections in immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts 7) Laboratory diagnosis of protozoa, helminths and fungi 8) Therapeutic options for diseases caused by protozoa, helminths and fungi 9) Scientific communication:adequacy of scientific terms and examples of recommended bibliographic references Unidade Curricular: [ ] PARASITOLOGIA E MICOLOGIA MÉDICA DATA: /6

6 Teaching methodologies (including evaluation) Theoretical (T) Theoretical-practical (TP) classes are expositive using Powerpoint. In TP classes is also used Iconography (interactive photoquizs) and resolution of exercises in groups, based on the analysis of scientific papers / documents. Pratical (P) classes are dedicated to microscopic observation of organisms and execution of diagnostic tests: students must then elaborate reports,reinforcing the acquired knowledge at the T and TP. Seminars(S) are dedicated to the oral presentation by the students, in groups of 3, of research results on a topic proposed by the docent. The evaluation includes evaluation of P(attendance, participation and reports): 10%; evaluation of the S (20%) criteria are: organization and integral knowledge of the work, adequate development of the topic, correction and adequacy of the scientific terms and updated scientific bibliography; An the final theoretical exam with multiple choice questions (70%).
