The work involved the modelling and linearisation of semiconductors lasers for SCM applications, in particular fibre-radio systems which are affected by a wide dynamic range of power levels. 1989-1993 PhD at the University of Wales, Bangor: studied the nonlinear distortion characteristics of the semiconductor laser and its implications in subcarrier multiplexed optical systems; this work involved the development of appropriate analytic techniques for the modelling of the laser nonlinearity and the performance assessment and optimization of SCM systems. 1985 1989 At INESC Porto developed fibre optic transmission systems as part of the project SIFO Fibre Optic Integrated Systems: clock recovery circuit operating at 8 Mbit/s. Laser Transmitter at 34 Mbit/s; 5B6B coder and decoder for a fiber optic system at the bit rate of 184.320 Mbit/s.
