August 2015 POST - EVENT
THE EVENT ABTA 2015 Expo & Conference once again showed how dynamic the industry is, with plenty of proposals and robust optimism about the development of digital services in both TV content offerings and broadband. The CEOs of the major telecommunications companies operating in Brazil set the tone of the market in the Opening Panel, showing that the TV and broadband segment is strategic and resilient at times of crisis. José Félix, CEO of América Móvil in Brazil, Amos Genish, CEO of Telefonica/Vivo, and Bayard Gontijo, CEO of Oi, were among the industry leaders who attended the event and highlighted the scope still existing for growth and investment. ABTA 2015 marked the sector s positioning in favor of an environment with lighter regulation, an adequate tax burden fairly aligned with the benefits generated by the industry, and regulatory and tax symmetry in relation to the services provided by the internet (OTT). For the second consecutive year the advertising market was given special treatment, with panels and sessions featuring ad agencies, major advertisers and programmers who discussed the current and future role of pay TV and subscription channels in media offerings. The inevitable conclusion was that the sector s segmentation, size and potential for precise metrics assures continuing above-average growth of the advertising pie. Indeed, it is expected to remain among the three top media for advertisers, alongside free-to-air TV and the internet. In addition to the sector s strong institutional positioning expressed in the main sessions and the discussion of programming and advertising, the event also showcased new services such as TV Everywhere, ultra broadband and ondemand content, which were demonstrated and launched during ABTA 2015, as well as novel forms of content delivery. The leading technology vendors were also present, featuring new product launches and looking ahead at forthcoming trends in delivery of convergent and non-linear services. The PAY-TV Seminars (STAs) were a separate highlight, with tens of presentations on the key trends in technology, IT services, access networks, broadband, wireless networks and satellites.
