2 WELCOME to the 50 th Annual Congress of the Brazilian Society of Physiology Bridge to the Future Dearest On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee I wish to welcome to the 50 th Annual Congress of the Brazilian Society of Physiology (SBFis). The theme and logo of the Congress SBFis 2015: BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE recall the challenges that our society has been overcoming with success in the organization of national and international scientific congresses, with emphasis on the 1st Pan-American Congress of Physiological Sciences in Iguassu Falls in 2014 (falls at the left-hand side of the logo), and the 38th World Congress of the International Union of Physiological Sciences-IUPS, in Rio de Janeiro in 2017 (Sugar Loaf at the right side of the logo). Therefore, the bridge that connects these two major international challenges has its foundations in our annual congresses, which are based on scientific excellence. The scientific committee has received a great number of proposals in order to make an outstanding scientific program, which comprises 17 Plenaries & Keynotes Lectures, 31 Symposia, 13 courses, workshops, and poster presentation. In addition, the scientific program combines a national and international selection of eminent speakers, and we are convinced that we are going to provide to the participants a world-class congress. We hope that you will enjoy the Congress and that your interaction with your colleagues physiologists from many different countries will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas, and will be personally rewarding in the pleasant atmosphere created by the our Congress.
