1 Guerra, Estratégia e Violência Política 18 Horas Docentes: Francisco Proença Garcia e Filipe Pathé Duarte Objectivos Gerais (PT) Introduzir os estudantes na análise crítica das principais teorias da guerra, da segurança e defesa, perceber algumas das principais formas que o ativismo político violento poderá assumir, nomeadamente a luta armada, seja ela de inspiração militar ou não, ao mesmo tempo que procura desenvolver as capacidades críticas dos alunos. Objectivos Gerais (Inglês) Introducing students to the analysis of the main theories of war, political violence, defense and security, while seeking to develop their critical thinking. Objectivos de Aprendizagem (PT) No final desta Unidade Curricular os estudante deverão ser capazes de: OA1 - Analisar os debates em torno do estudo científico da guerra. OA2 - Descrever as diferentes tipologias de Violência Política e de Guerra. OA3 - Analisar o fenómeno subversivo e algumas das principais formas que o ativismo político violento poderá assumir. OA4 - Criticar o atual debate sobre as principais ameaças transnacionais e formar uma posição pessoal. OA5 - Explicar o emprego da força militar no âmbito das relações internacionais. OA6 - Categorizar metodologias de formulação de modalidades de ação estratégica para fazer face às principais ameaças transnacionais, e à subversão OA7 Analisar os novos paradigmas da Segurança e Defesa. OA8 Apresentar e debater um trabalho de investigação Objectivos de Aprendizagem (EN) At the end of this Curricular Unit students should be able to: LO1 - To analyze the debates on the scientific study of war. LO2 -Describe different types of war and warfare. LO3 Analyze subversion and some of the main activities of political activism. LO4 - Criticize the present discussion on the main transnational threats and build a personal opinion. LO5 - To explain the use of military force in international relations. LO6 - Categorize methodologies to formulate strategic courses of action to address major transnational threats LO7 Analyze new paradigms of security and defense. LO8 - Present and discuss a research paper.

3 Processo de avaliação (PT) O sistema de avaliação da cadeira assenta sobre um texto individual (ponderação:55%) e uma apresentação individual oral (ponderação: 45%). O primeiro consiste na entrega de uma reflexão escrita, com cerca de 3000 caracteres. Este texto deverá sintetizar o que foi aprendido de mais relevante acerca de um Conteúdo Programático. O estabelecimento de conexões com outros Conteúdos Programáticos será objeto de valorização. O segundo consiste na apresentação de um trabalho oral. A escolha do tema fica ao critério de cada estudante, devendo o tema ser relacionado com o conteúdo programático. Processo de avaliação (EN) An individual text (weighting: 55%) and an oral presentation (weighting: 45%). The first assignment consists of a written text, about 3000 characters. The paper will synthesize the most important topics about one Program Content. Establishing connections with other Program Contents will be highly valued. The second assignment consists of a presentation and discussion of oral presentation. Each student is free to choose its topic; this however should match one of the topics of the Syllabus (PC). Processo de ensino-aprendizagem (PT) Metade das aulas são de natureza teórica e a outra metade de natureza prática. As aulas teóricas irão apresentar os conceitos e as diferentes abordagens teóricas. Nas aulas práticas os diversos grupos de estudantes aplicarão os conceitos aprendidos à análise de casos concretos e discutirão as suas conclusões com os colegas. Ao mesmo tempo, o docente irá consolidar e aprofundar os conceitos lecionados e esclarecer dúvidas. Processo de ensino-aprendizagem (EN) Half of the classes are lectures and the other half of a practical nature. The lectures will introduce the concepts and the different theoretical approaches. In practical classes different teams of students will apply the learned concepts to the analysis of concrete cases while discussing their findings with the colleagues. At the same time, the teacher will consolidate and deepen the concepts and clarify doubts.
