2 YOUNG MALE*: FOTOGRAFIAS DE ALAIR GOMES O desejo pelo corpo masculino jovem e belo pautou toda a obra fotográfica do artista carioca Alair Gomes [ ], realizada ao longo de 20 anos. O olhar do artista, de viés homoerótico, tornou-se complexo e original ao longo de sua produção realizada entre os anos 1960 e Essa obra de caráter radical, que concilia compulsão pessoal com refinamento de estratégias da linguagem, começou nos últimos anos a ser melhor estudada e legitimada por instituições como o MoMA, que recentemente adquiriu obras do artista. Young Male: Fotografias de Alair Gomes, que a Casa Triângulo apresenta agora, é a maior mostra de caráter comercial do artista realizada até hoje. Pelo fato de todo o seu acervo ter sido doado pelos seus herdeiros para a Biblioteca Nacional - o que também garantiu sua integridade -, são raras as obras de Alair que surgem no circuito de arte para serem adquiridas por colecionadores. A mostra, com a maioria das obras oriundas do acervo de Robson Phoenix, que agora poderão integrar outras coleções, exibe fragmentos das séries Symphony of Erotic Icons, ; A Window in Rio, e Viagens [Europa, Arte], Essa última trata-se das s de estatuárias greco-romanas realizadas na sua primeira viagem à Europa, que o levaram a trocar a escrita literária dos seus Diários Eróticos pela representação via. Mais tarde, a estética clássica que sublinha a força e a virilidade do corpo masculino serviria de referência para os retratos dos garotos nus. A Window in Rio é uma das séries abrigadas sobre o título Finestra, que Alair fotografou da janela do sexto andar de seu apartamento, em Ipanema, flagrando o movimento dos garotos na calçada e nas janelas de prédios próximos. Sem ser notado, o fotógrafo exerce sua porção voyeur fazendo de sua teleobjetiva uma espécie de arma com a qual o caçador abate e guarda para si o corpo de suas caças. Symphony of Erotic Icons foi a primeira composição sequencial realizada por Alair, entre 1966 e Considerada sua obra-prima, é dedicada totalmente ao nu masculino e compreende um conjunto de s. A série é estruturada em cinco movimentos: Allegro, Andatino, Andante, Adagio e Finale. Para Alair, a construção desse universo fotográfico almejava transcender a sua personalidade, criando um estado proto-religioso. Essa série nunca foi mostrada integralmente e dificilmente o será, devido a questões jurídicas relativas ao direito de imagem dos modelos, nunca formalizada pelo fotógrafo. * Nos diários de Alair, escritos originalmente em inglês, é comum nos depararmos com a sigla y.m., de young male, forma que o artista adotou para se referir aos garotos com os quais ele flertava e fotografava. 3 YOUNG MALE*: FOTOGRAFIAS DE ALAIR GOMES Desire for the young, beautiful male body drove all the photographic work of Rio de Janeiro artist Alair Gomes [ ], carried out over a span of 20 years. Throughout the course of his production extending from 1960 to 1980, the artist s gaze, from a homoerotic standpoint, became complex and original. In recent years, this work of a radical nature, which combines personal compulsion with strategies for the development of a refined artistic language, has been better studied and legitimized by institutions such as MoMA, which recently acquired works by the artist. Young Male: Fotografias de Alair Gomes [Young Male: Photographs by Alair Gomes], now running at Casa Triângulo, is the largest commercial show of the artist s work ever held until today. Since his entire photographic archive was donated by his heirs to the Biblioteca Nacional thereby ensuring its intactness works by Alair rarely arise in the art circuit available for acquisition by collectors. A Window in Rio is one of the series falling under the overall title Finestra, which Alair photographed from the window of his sixth-floor apartment in Ipanema, registering the movements of the young men on the sidewalk and in the windows of nearby buildings. Without being noticed, the photographer exercised his role as a voyeur, making his telephoto lens a sort of weapon with which the hunter slays and captures the body of his prey. Symphony of Erotic Icons was the first sequential composition made by Alair, between 1966 and Considered his magnum opus, it is entirely dedicated to the male nude and contains a set of 1,767 photographs. The series is structured in five movements: Allegro, Andatino, Andante, Adagio and Finale. For Alair, the construction of this photographic world aimed to transcend his personality, creating a proto-religious state. This series has never been shown as a whole and it would be difficult to do so, due to legal questions related to the lack of formalized consent from the photographed subjects. * In Alair s diaries, originally written in English, it is common to run across the abbreviation y.m., standing for young male, which is how the artist referred to the young men he flirted with and photographed.
