1 CURRICULUM VITAE Updated in January 2014 SYNOPSIS: Jorge Humberto Amorim was born in Viana do Castelo, Northern Portugal, in In 2000, he received a degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Aveiro (UA). He obtained a Master of Science in Atmospheric Pollution in 2003, and a PhD in Sciences Applied to the Environment in 2008 from the same University. He is currently a Post-Doc researcher in the Associate Laboratory Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), at the UA, with a grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He published 21 scientific papers (plus 1 in press) indexed to the ISI Web of Knowledge, with a total of 99 citations, including 13 articles published in international scientific journals with a high impact factor in the multidisciplinary area of environmental sciences (such as Environment International, Science of the Total Environment, and Atmospheric Environment). He is the (co-) author of 23 books or chapters of books (plus 3 in press). He published a total of 48 papers in International Conference Proceedings with peer-review and 10 in National Conference Proceedings with peer-review. He has actively participated in 7 European Commission R&D projects, 4 COST Actions, 2 bilateral European research actions, and 10 national research projects. His focus of scientific activity is on the environmental sciences, concerning the study of local scale atmospheric processes, and its influence over the transport and dispersion mechanisms of particles, droplets and gases. This research has been based on the development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models and other local scale numerical models. Topics of research include the urban air quality; air pollution hot-spots; human comfort; human exposure to air pollution; risk assessment; urban sustainability; green infrastructures; road traffic emissions and management; forest fire emissions; wildland/urban interface fires; and the aerial firefighting. In parallel with his research career, he started teaching in 2010 as invited assistant professor at the UA for the disciplines of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics. He is currently an assistant professor at the Higher Institute of Maia (ISMAI), for the disciplines of Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Technologies, and Environmental Management. He was/is the supervisor of six Master Thesis. He has also provided consultancy services to the Institute of Environment and Planning (IDAD) under both International and National contracts with private companies and government agencies, in the areas of air quality impact and impact/risk assessment.
