Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular Com a emergência do conceito de sustentabilidade associado ao desenvolvimento e reinterpretado em praticamente todas as actividades humanas produtivas, o sector construtivo sentiu necessidade de criar instrumentos para avaliar objectivamente o grau de sustentabilidade das edificações, de modo a poder divulgar, comparar e certificar neste domínio, no contexto do mercado imobiliário, a diversidade de soluções formais e construtivas que se reclamavam dessa abordagem. A Construção Sustentável é definida como a criação responsável de um ambiente construído saudável (e a sua gestão) a partir do uso eficiente dos recursos dentro de um enquadramento e princípios ecológicos, com o objectivo de minimizar os impactes ambientais negativos induzidos pela actividade construtiva (Charles Kibert, 1994) O conceito de construção sustentável não se resume ao processo construtivo em si mas abarca toda a sequência que vai desde a concepção ate à desactivação do objecto construído, incluindo os processos de manutenção, avaliando ainda a pressão sobre os recursos e os impactes da sua exploração, as questões relacionadas com o transporte e armazenamento dos materiais e a energia incorporada na sua fabricação, as emissões e cargas ambientais que a sua utilização gera, bem como as alterações induzidas nos sistemas ambientais, de base natural ou construída.sendo a generalização do conceito de Construção sustentável e da sua aplicação prática um factor de crescente importância, os conhecimentos /competências que esta unidade curricular oferecem constituem uma mais-valia significativa para os discentes e um patamar fundamental para o nível subsequente de uma arquitectura mais sustentável, que responda à imprescindibilidade de uma mudança de rumo e paradigmas, estabelecendo relações sinergéticas entre Cultura, Ecologia, Inovação e Tecnologia.

3 Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída) Avaliação individual teórica (frequência40%) e trabalho de grupo (3 elementos) consistindo na certificação de um projecto escolhido pelos sistemas LEED, BREEAM e LiderA, com uma análise comparativa em conclusão (60%) Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular Competências a adquirir: Capacidade para avaliar objectivamente a componente ambiental física das edificações no contexto da certificação da construção sustentável nomeadamente ciclo de vida dos materiais, sistemas construtivos e recursos utilizados; ciclos e fluxos de energia, água, resíduos e efluentes; qualidade dos comportamentos higrotérmico, acústico, lumínico e do ar interior; impactes ambientais da construção nas dinâmicas ecológicas locais. Conhecimentos básicos para concorrer à credenciação como especialista e consultor dos principais sistemas de certificação da construção sustentável no mercado. Capacidade para projectar edificações integrando de base a componente ambiental física de modo a cumprir as regulamentações e orientações actuais e futuras de maior sustentabilidade, no contexto de Portugal e União Europeia. Nos principais países industrializados foram sendo desenvolvidas metodologias com parâmetros próprios para avaliar a sustentabilidade (sobretudo da dimensão ambiental) de novas edificações, conferindo uma certificação qualitativa e quantitativa (de caracter voluntário, mas reconhecida pelo mercado), como são exemplos o LEED, norte-americano (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), o BREEAM inglês (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, também conhecido como eco-homes), o HQE francês (Haute Qualité Environnementale des Bâtiments), ou o DGNB Alemão(Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen) que ponderam hierarquicamente parâmetros objectivos escolhidos, organizados em grandes categorias, para definirem uma pontuação global final e uma qualificação. A classificação final é apresentada por níveis de sustentabilidade de referência, da simples certificação (acima de cerca de 35% do valor máximo possível) a patamares de excelência. Em Portugal, onde esta temática surgiu tardiamente, só alguns (poucos) edifícios foram certificados por estes sistemas; já neste século foi introduzido um sistema similar adaptado à realidade portuguesa, o LiderA, apresentando uma classificação de níveis aferidos ao grau de eficiência ambiental global a partir das dimensões escolhidas para caracterizar o desempenho ambiental das edificações. A metodologia de avaliação proposta utiliza uma abordagem comparativa dos principais sistemas, aplicados a um projecto escolhido, de modo a aferir melhor a validade dos resultados. Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit s learning objectives With the emergence of the concept of sustainability associated with development models and reinterpreted in virtually all productive human activities, the construction sector felt the need to create instruments to objectively assess the degree of sustainability of buildings, so as to be able to disseminate, compare and certify in this area, in the context of the real estate market, the diversity of formal and constructive solutions that reclaim this approach. Sustainable Construction is defined as the responsible creation of a healthy built environment (and its management) from the efficient use of resources within an ecological framework and principles, with the aim of minimizing the negative environmental impacts induced by constructive activity (Charles Kibert, 1994) The concept of sustainable construction is not limited to the construction process itself, but covers the whole sequence from conception to the decommissioning of the constructed object, including maintenance processes, further assessing the pressure on the resources and impacts of their exploitation, issues related to the transport and storage of materials and the energy incorporated into their manufacture, the emissions and environmental loads that their use generates, as well as the changes induced in environmental systems, natural or built-up. As the generalization of the sustainable construction concept and its practical application is becoming a worldwide factor of increasing importance, the knowledge /competencies that this curricular unit offers constitute a significant added value for students and a fundamental basis for achieving the subsequent level of a more sustainable architecture process and praxis - responding to the inevitability of a change of course and paradigms in this area, by establishing synergistic relationships between Culture, Ecology, Innovation and Technology.

7 Teaching methodologies (including evaluation) Theoretical individual evaluation (test 40%) and group work (3 elements) consisting of the certification of a chosen project using LEED, BREEAM and LiderA systems, with a comparative analysis in conclusion (60%) Demonstration of the coherence between the Teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes Skills to be acquired: Ability to objectively assess the physical environmental component of buildings in the context of sustainable construction certification namely the life cycle of materials, building systems and resources used; cycles and flows of energy, water, waste and effluents; quality of hygro-thermal, acoustic, luminous and indoor air behaviors; environmental impacts of construction on local ecological dynamics. Basic knowledge to apply for accreditation as an expert and consultant of the main certification systems of sustainable construction in the market. Ability to design buildings integrating the physical environmental component in order to comply with current and future regulations and guidelines of a wide frame of sustainability, in the context of Portugal and the European Union. In the main industrialized countries, methodologies were developed with their own specific parameters to evaluate the sustainability (especially of the environmental dimension) of new buildings, conferring a qualitative and quantitative certification (of voluntary character, but recognized by the market), such as LEED, North American (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), the English BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, also known as eco-homes), or the French HQE (Haute Qualité Environnementale des Bâtiments), which hierarchically consider chosen objective parameters, organized in large categories, to define a final overall score and qualification. The final classification is presented by reference sustainability levels, from simple certification (above about 35% of the maximum possible value) to levels of excellence.in Portugal, where this theme arose later, only a (few) buildings were certified by these systems; already in this century a similar system was introduced and adapted to the Portuguese reality, the LiderA, presenting a classification of levels tuned to the degree of global environmental efficiency, from a set of categories chosen to characterize the environmental performance of buildings.
