2 Occupational health Definition According to international organizations such as WHO and ILO, occupational health is considered to be a multidisciplinary approach that considers individual s physical, mental and social well-being, general health and personal development.

3 A ms (I) Occupational health Preventing and controlling occupational diseases and accidents; Eliminating occupational factors and hazard conditions to health and safety at work; Development and promotion of healthy and safe work;

5 Occupational health surveillance Occupational diseases usually become apparent only after several working years. To identify the potential dangers early can avoid many incurable diseases. Surveillance monitoring

21 Example of a technical document: Risk Prevention Manuals LANIFÍCIOS TINTURARIA Secagem de fio em bobine secador de pressão LTINT 14 Página n.º: 1 I. DESCRIÇÃO Esta operação destina-se a eliminar o excesso de humidade da matéria por evaporação (acção de calor seco). II. EQUIPAMENTO UTILIZADO Esta operação é efectuada em máquinas denominadas por Secadores de Pressão, utilizadas para a secagem de fio em bobines. Estas máquinas podem apresentar disposição vertical ou horizontal e o seu aquecimento é feito com vapor. III. MATERIAIS E EQUIPAMENTOS AUXILIARES Nesta operação consideram-se os seguintes materiais / equipamentos auxiliares: Bobines de fio. Porta material. Cesto de transporte. IV. PROCEDIMENTO OPERATIVO O operador após descarregar a matéria do hidroextractor, procede ao carregamento das bobines a secar no porta material da máquina. Abre a tampa da máquina, coloca o porta material no seu interior e fecha a tampa. Consoante o tipo de matéria a secar, o operador terá que regular o tempo de operação e a temperatura de secagem. No final da operação, abre a máquina e descarrega a matéria seca do porta material para um cesto de transporte adequado. Botoneira e cabo de paragem de emergência num tear - Colocação de protecção que impossibilite o acesso das mãos às zonas móveis e/ou sensores de presença que param automaticamente a movimentação sempre que detectam na sua proximidade um obstáculo. - Utilização de equipamento de protecção individual. Perfuração / Corte: - Colocação de guarda-mãos nos equipamentos auxiliares de movimentação de cargas. - Devido à utilização de elementos de corte. - Fixar o elemento de corte, tesouras ou facas, no posto de trabalho. Queda: - Por desequilíbrio quando existe uma plataforma ou degrau de acesso à zona de trabalho. - Cum prir as regras de segurança ao m anusear os utensílios de corte. - Sempre que possível, as plataformas devem possuir grades ou barras que evitem a queda do operador. - As plataformas e degraus devem ser consistentes, resistentes e com dimensões adequadas. 24 Occupational health problems are not only problems of individual workers health, but they are also problems relating to the healthiness and safety of work and the work environment, the organization of work and the management philosophy of the enterprise and workplace. Curso de Técnico de Higiene e Segurança e do Trabalho e Ambiente Successful prevention requires scientific knowledge of the sources, mechanisms of generation, transmission and magnitude of problems together with technical knowledge and practical skills for the prevention and control. Thus multidisciplinary expert competence and practical technical competence should collaborate.

25 According to the WHO Health for All principles and ILO Conventions on Occupational Safety and Health (No. 155) and on Occupational Health Services (No. 161) every worker has the right of access to occupational health and safety services, irrespective of the sector of the economy, size of the company, or type of assignment and occupation Curso de Técnico de Higiene e Segurança e do Trabalho e Ambiente The right to health and safety at work has been stipulated in the Constitution of WHO and IL0 and is supported by a number of other United Nations documents. No country has so far been fully successful in achieving this objective for all workers. Thus occupational health infrastructures and programmes should be further developed in every country.
