1 Press release January 2014 SP-ARTE, THE SÃO PAULO INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR ANNOUNCES LIST OF GALLERIES FOR 2014 AND SOLO, A NEW EXHIBITOR SECTOR From 2 6 April 2014, SP-Arte, the São Paulo International Art Fair 2014, will return for its 10th year as Latin America s leading international contemporary art fair. Featuring 137 of the best Brazilian and international galleries from 18 countries across the globe, SP-Arte/2014 will include 15 more galleries than the 2013 fair. For its 10th anniversary, SP-Arte will present 78 Brazilian galleries and 59 international galleries, while introducing a distinctive programme of cultural and educational events, a new exhibitor sector, Solo, curated by Rodrigo Moura and will show a number of emerging galleries for the first time. For SP-Arte/2014, 137 galleries across North America, South America and Europe will display diverse art from Modern Masters to cutting edge contemporary works within the iconic setting of Oscar Neimeyer s famous São Paulo Bienal Pavilion. Returning international galleries include David Zwirner (US), Cristophe Van de Weghe (US), Gagosian Gallery (US), Lia Rumma (Italy), Neugerriemschneider (Germany), Pace (US), Galerie Peter Kilchmann (Switzerland), Yvon Lambert (France), Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac (Austria), White Cube (UK), Lisson Gallery (UK) and renowned Brazilian galleries returning for 2014 include Galeria Nara Roesler (São Paulo), Galeria Luisa Strina (São Paulo), Fortes Vilaça (São Paulo), Vermelho (São Paulo) and A Gentil Carioca (Rio de Janeiro). The fair is also delighted to welcome Natalie Serousi (France), Kurimanzutto (Mexico), Michael Werner (US), Marian Goodman Gallery (US), Stephen Friedman (UK), Sies & Hoeke (Germany), Cardi (Italy), and Mayoral (Spain) who will be showing at SP-Arte for the first time in A full list of participating galleries is included below. This year, SP-Arte will introduce Solo, an exciting new exhibitor sector. Compiled by leading Brazilian Curator and Director of Inhotim, Rodrigo Moura, the sector will show cutting edge emerging art from 14 diverse galleries including Henrique Faria (US), Instituto de Visión (Colombia), Ivan Gallery (Romenia), Travesia Cuatro (Spain), PSM (Germany), Maisterravalbuena (Spain), Ruth Benzacar (Argentina), and Nara Roesler (Brazil). The Showcase sector, returning for its second year, will display works by three selected artists from 22 galleries including Athena Contemporânea (Rio de Janeiro), Marcia Barrozo do Amaral (Rio de Janeiro) and Galeria Pilar (São Paulo). Through this sector, the 2014 edition of the fair will present a selection of international galleries that have not exhibited at SP-Arte before, including Galeria Plan B (Germany), Kavi Gupta (US), Esther Woerdehoff (France), Johannes Vogt (US), Nosco (UK), and Hus Gallery (UK). In addition to sectors Solo and Showcase, SP-Arte will present innovative cultural and educational programmes unique to the fair which will include Curatorial Lab, Dialogues and the Editorial Cluster. For the third consecutive year, Curatorial Lab, a programme led by Adriano Pedrosa, will offer young curators the opportunity to implement exhibition projects, creating a hub of curatorial experimentation. SP-Arte will also present Dialogues, a curated programme of talks with curators and artists as well as an Editorial Cluster, which features artists books, magazines, independent publishers and book launches. For 2014, SP-Arte will launch an innovative catalogue with selected art content, art reviews and interviews with leading gallerists. The catalogue will also include a brief history of art donations in Brazil, highlighting SP-Arte s 6 year donation program, led by its sponsor, Iguatemi, as well as a retrospective review on the 60th anniversary of Parque Ibirapuera, the iconic park that houses the Bienal Pavillion and a complex of 4 museums: Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of African American Art and of Folk Art, as well as the Music Auditorium. During SP-Arte, the city of São Paulo will be transformed by special programming in museums such as Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo as well as cultural centres and galleries. SP-Arte Week will also bring special opportunities

2 for visitors to gain exclusive access to collectors homes and artists studios, making SP-Arte one of the most important moments to experience culture in the city. São Paulo is the leading centre for the production and display of contemporary art within Brazil and SP-Arte is committed to creating an international platform for the city s vibrant contemporary art scene. 5 Press release March 2014 SP-ARTE, THE SÃO PAULO INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR ANNOUNCES FURTHER DETAILS INCLUDING ARTISTS SELECTED FOR SOLO, AN INNOVATIVE NEW SECTOR FOR 2014 SP-Arte is delighted to announce additional details for its 10th edition, taking place from 2-6 April As Latin America s leading art fair, SP-Arte will feature 136 galleries from 18 countries around the globe. The fair continues to expand its representation of international galleries and artists through its three exhibitor sectors: Main, Solo, and Showcase. The fair s new sector, Solo, organised by prominent Brazilian Curator and Director of Inhotim, Rodrigo Moura, presents a variety of galleries each exhibiting a single artist and the Showcase sector returns for its second year showing three artists from emerging galleries with strong curatorial programmes. The Fair will also host talks with renowned curators and artists as part of Adriano Pedrosa s, Dialogues series. The Solo sector makes its debut with 13 cutting-edge art galleries from 10 countries, all invited by Rodrigo Moura and focused on the work of a single artist. One of Solo s defining attributes is the inclusion of historical works by three influential, female artists now in their 80s: Olga de Amaral at Agnès Monplaisir (Paris); Geta Bratescu who will present a large-scale installation previously shown at the 2013 Moscow Biennale at Ivan Gallery and Anna Bella-Geiger at Henrique Faria Fine Arts (New York) who will show work that spans her nearly six decade career. In contrast to these three historical presentations will be works by younger artists such as Chilean artist Manuela Viera-Gallo at Instituto de Visión (Bogotá); work by Peruvian artist David Zink Yi including photographs from his Untitled series depicting the Ayachucho silver mine in central Peru at 80m2 (Lima); and a powerful sculptural installation which will re-create some of the great paintings of Caravaggio in three dimensional form by Argentinean artist Mariana Telleria at Ruth Benzacar (Buenos Aires). In its second year, the Showcase sector has increased to 23 exhibitors and each gallery will focus its stand on the exhibition of three artists. Through this sector, the 2014 edition of the fair will introduce a vast selection of international galleries that have not taken part in SP-Arte before, including Plan B Gallery (Berlin), Rolf Art (Buenos Aires), Galerie Esther Woerdehoff (Paris), Johannes Vogt Gallery (New York), Gallery Nosco (London) and Hus Gallery (London). Highlights of artists to be featured in the Showcase sector include work by Kazuo Okubo, João Paulo Barbosa and Tiago Santana at A Casa da Luz Vermelha from Brasilia, Brazil; work by Katja Loher, Cris Bierrenbach and Rosangela Dorazio at Galeria Lourdina Jean Rabieh from São Paulo, Brazil; work by Bettina Vaz Guimarães, Fernanda Valadares and Heleno Bernardi at Myrine Vlavianos Arte Contemporânea from Florianópolis, Brazil and work by Lauren Seiden and Rodrigo Bueno at Gallery Nosco from London, UK. The two exhibitor sectors, Solo and Showcase, will be concentrated on the ground floor of the Biennial Pavilion, the Modern and Contemporary galleries participating in the main sector will be on the first and second floors of the fair as in previous editions. The Dialogues programme, organised by Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa, will present a series of public talks by leading artists and curators at the fair. On Thursday 3 April, the artists featured will include Brazilian artists Thiago Martins de Melo, Mabe Bethônico and Anna Bella Geiger. On Friday 4 April, curators speaking will include Pablo Leon de la Barra, Guggenheim ubs map Curator, Latin America, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Ivo Mesquita, Artistic Director of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, and Julieta Gonzalez, senior curator at Museo Tamayo in Mexico. In addition to Dialogues, Pedrosa is also coordinating the Curatorial Lab, a programme the fair offers for young curators to implement exhibition projects, creating a hub of curatorial experimentation at the fair. 6 two curators for 2014 are Carolina Vieira and Traplev, who both currently live in Brazil s northeast region. Solo follows on from the success of Showcase, a sector which started last year and creates a new opportunity for galleries from around the world to take part in the fair for the first time. Alongside Solo, Showcase and Dialogues, the fair will also present an Editorial Cluster and Curatorial Lab which are both unique programmes to SP-Arte, reflecting our aim to create an innovative model for our contemporary art fair. NOTES TO THE EDITORS Rodrigo Moura, Curator of the Solo Sector Editor and art critic, Moura was the curator of Instituto Inhotim (Brumadinho, mg) from 2004 to 2013 and is now the Director of the institution. He served as curator of the Museu de Arte da Pampulha, in Belo Horizonte, where he coordinated an incentive program for emerging artists. Among the exhibitions he has organized are Mirante, by Mauro Restiffe, at PhotoEspaña (Madrid, Spain, 2009) and the group show Primeira e última, notas sobre o monumento (Galeria Luisa Strina, São Paulo, 2010). He has published the books Políticas Institucionais, práticas curatoriais (Museu de Arte da Pampulha, 2004) and Através (Inhotim Centro de Arte Contemporânea, 2008). Adriano Pedrosa, Curator of Dialogues and the Editorial Cluster Adriano Pedrosa is an independent curator, editor and writer currently based in São Paulo. He has curated numerous international exhibitions and was adjunct curator of the 24th Bienal de São Paulo (1998) with chief curator Paulo Herkenhoff, co-curator of the 27th Bienal de São Paulo (2006) with chief curator Lisette Lagnado and co-curator of the 12th Istanbul Biennial (2011) with Jens Hoffmann. He has published extensively on contemporary art in numerous catalogues and magazines and is the founding director of piesp-programa Independente da Escola São Paulo. About SP-Arte SP-Arte, the São Paulo International Art Fair, was founded in 2005 and is now the most important art fair in Latin America presenting the top Brazilian and International galleries. As Latin America s leading art fair, SP-Arte will feature 136 galleries from 18 countries around the globe. Under the leadership of Executive Director Fernanda Feitosa, the main sector of the fair, housed on the first and second floors of Oscar Niemeyer s Biennial Pavilion will bring together work by the best Brazilian and international artists on the stands of 100 modern and contemporary galleries. 9 Press release April 2014 STRONG SALES BY BOTH BRAZILIAN AND INTERNATIONAL GALLERIES COMBINED WITH INNOVATIVE PROGRAMMING MAKE THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF SP-ARTE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL EDITION TO DATE SP-Arte, the São Paulo International Art Fair 2014, which ran from 2-6 April 2014 and celebrated its 10th edition this year, drew record attendance and was widely considered by dealers, collectors and curators alike to be the best edition of the fair to date. SP-Arte/2014 benefitted from leading international galleries attending for the first time such as Marian Goodman, Michael Werner and Kurimanzutto, Solo, the new sector for this year which included galleries selected by Director of Inhotim, Rodrigo Moura and a strong programme for Dialogues and the Curatorial Lab, organised by renowned Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Fernanda Feitosa, SP-Arte/2014 featured 136 of the best Brazilian and international galleries from 18 countries across the globe. For 2014, SP-Arte received 22,000 visitors over the course of the fair including the strongest ever attendance for the VIP preview day and more international visitors than ever before. For the first time this year a collector s group was brought to the fair by axa Art insurance. A group of professionals brought to the fair by Latitude: Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad included Beverly Adams, Curator of Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas (usa), Fanni Fetzer, Director of the Kunstmuseum Luzern (Switzerland), Milovan Farronato, Director of the Fiorrucci Art Trust (Italy), Pauline Yao, Curator at m+ (Hong Kong) and Andrea Viliani, Director of the Madre Museum, Naples (Italy). Both Brazilian and international galleries in attendance for SP-Arte s 10th edition reported strong sales for work by local as well as international artists. Sales at the fair this year illustrated that Brazilian collectors are increasingly more interested in acquiring work by both emerging and established international artists. Work sold at the fair by Brazilian artists included that of Mira Schendel, Cildo Meireles, Helio Oiticica, Alfredo Volpi, Sergio de Camargo, Abraham Palatnik, Emiliano Di Cavalcanti and Lasar Segall as well as contemporary artists such as Vik Muniz, Beatriz Milhazes, Jac Leirner, Adriana Varejão, Rivana Neuenschwander, Erika Verzutti, Sandra Cinto, Valeska Soares, Janaina Tschäpe, Miguel Rio Branco and Renata Lucas. Highlights of works by international artists sold included Anish Kapoor, Gabriel Orozco, Damian Ortega, Antoni Tàpies, Geta Brătescu, Michelangelo Pistoletto, William Kentridge, Oscar Murillo, Richard Serra, John Chamberlain, Alexander Calder, Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley, Allora & Calzadilla, Georg Baselitz, Robert Longo, Lucio Fontana and Pino Pascali as well as work by innovative emerging artists in the Solo Sector including Jose Dávila, Néstor Sanmiguel, Voluspa Jarpa, Nathan Peter, David Zink Yi, Arnaldo Dias Baptista and Virginia de Medeiros. SP-Arte is also delighted to announce that the 3rd edition of the illy Sustain Art Prize was awarded at the fair to artist Cristiano Lenhardt who received 20,000 brl as part of this award. The illy Sustain Art Prize honours Latin American artists under the age of 35. The artist for this year was selected by SP-Arte and curator Fernando Oliva. At this year s fair, SP-Arte and icco (Instituto de Cultura Contemporanea) also presented a series of awards for artists to participate in residencies abroad. SP-Arte is pleased to announce that artist Bruno Cançado will be participating in a residency at Cerveira in Portugal and artist Alexandre Brandão will be participating in a residency at Residency Unlimited, (ru) in New York.

10 PARTICIPATING GALLERIES SPOKE HIGHLY OF THEIR EXPERIENCE AT SP-ARTE: Greg Lulay, David Zwirner Gallery said: The fair organizers and collectors have been so welcoming, and we have been able to use the fair as a new stage where our artists can be seen, and where we could reach a new audience. We are all impressed with the growing international art community here, and were excited to participate. It was also a great experience for our gallery artist, Oscar Murillo, to join us in São Paulo. Highlights of our sales included all three paintings made especially for the fair by Oscar, works by Francis Alÿs and American artists Carol Bove and Jason Rhoades. Alexandre Gabriel, Fortes Vilaça said: Our participation in SP-Arte this year was great. Of all the international fairs the gallery participates in, SP-Arte occupies a very special place in our programme as we are in our hometown and dealing with collectors we know very well. The Brazilian art scene has been receiving growing interest over the past few years and we believe that SP-Arte in its 10th edition, represents an essential element of this process. Our gallery opened in 2001, and we are very proud to also be a part of this process. This fair, we were delighted to sell sculptural works by Erika Verzutti who was recently the only Brazilian artist to participate in the prestigious 2013 Carnegie International. Rose Lord, Marian Goodman Gallery said: It has been a good fair for us. We ve had great discussions with colleagues, curators, and collectors and are very happy that many of our works have found Brazilian homes. In addition, many of our artists will have upcoming shows with Brazilian institutions. Gordon Veneklasen, Michael Werner Gallery said: We have been happy with our first experience at SP-Arte and it is a fair we will continue to do. We have had a number of sales to both Brazilian and international buyers and the fair has helped introduce us to new collectors. Christophe Van de Weghe, Van de Weghe Gallery said: This is a tremendous fair. We sold a painting by Lucio Fontana to a collector from São Paulo and we met not only new collectors and new clients but also encountered here a lot of buying potential for the gallery. Daniel Roesler, Galeria Nara Roesler said: SP-Arte/2014 has been a great fair and every year is getting stronger than the one before. The overall quality of the work is getting better and the level of attendance has been great. SP- Arte remains the only fair in the world to see a diverse range of Brazilian art. Nicolo Cardi, Cardi Gallery said: SP-Arte has definitely become one of the top art fairs in the world and this extraordinary 10th edition made us very happy. This was due to good sales and also the very sophisticated Brazilian public of collectors that love the gallery s focus on Arte Povera & Italian Masters. Socorro de Andrade Lima, Galleria Millan said: We see SP-Arte as a great opportunity to show our artists work to a wide range of people from Brazil and abroad, from collectors and art dealers to curators and other artists. This edition of the fair was really good for increasing the visibility of the artworks, and, as always, we also made good sales. Johanne Tonger-Erk, Sies + Höke Gallery said: This was our first year at SP-Arte and the fair has exceeded our expectations in terms of making great sales and meeting new clients but also in terms of the organisation of the event. Olivier Belot, Yvon Lambert said: This fair is getting stronger and stronger from one year to another and it proves that there are great groups of collectors here committed to buying international art. Flavio Cohn, Dan Galeria said: We have been here since the beginning and it gets better and better every year. SP-Arte/2014 has been the best edition yet. Wagner Lungov, Central Galeria de Arte said: It has been great to see more international galleries at the fair as it shows the strength of the Brazilian market. For 2014, we were happy to sell a work by young artist Bartolomeo Gelpi to Pinacoteca through a donation by Iguatemi. Paulo Kassab Jr., Galerie Lume in the Showcase sector said: It is our third year at the fair and this year has been the best. We brought larger and more expensive works this year and have done very well. It seems that there is a larger group of collectors here than ever before.

11 Henrique Faria, Henrique Faria Fine Art, Solo Sector said: I am happy to be back in São Paulo for SP-Arte and also happy to highlight the great artist Anna Bella Geiger and give the Brazilian market an opportunity to know this historical material I have presented on my stand. At this year s fair I have made sales and met new people. Fernanda Feitosa, Executive Director, SP-Arte said: We are very pleased with the results of SP-Arte for the 10th edition of the fair. It was great to see such a fantastic group of local and international collectors come together this year, and that so many galleries in attendance had such strong sales. This year the fair was able to result in many works being acquired on behalf of local museums in São Paulo and through our new Solo sector, curated by Director of Inhotim Rodrigo Moura, we were able to introduce a range of innovative artists to the Brazilian public. This year has further established our position as Latin America s most important art fair and we look forward to building on this position in the years to come. Strong sales at the fair were also supported by a sectorial study on the art market in Brazil published by Latitude: Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad on the opening day of the fair which found that 90% of Brazilian galleries surveyed reported growth in their business in the last year. The average growth among all galleries surveyed increased to 27.5% in 2013, from 22.5% in The report found that total export sales for Latitude galleries in 2013 were $51,314,577 usd, which is an almost 90% increase over 2012 s export sales of $ usd.
