6 BRAZILIAN CALENDAR OF EXHIBITIONS AND FAIRS 2012 The Brazilian Calendar of Exhibition and Fairs is a joint publication of the Department for Trade and Services Policies (DECOS) of the Secretariat of Trade and Services (SCS), Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade (MDIC), and the Trade and Investment Promotion Department (DPR) of the Undersecretary-General for Cooperation, Culture, and Trade Promotion (SGEC), Ministry of External Relations (MRE). The partnership between the two Ministries was launched through creation of the Standing Inter-Ministerial Working Group provided for under Directive No. 5 of January 11, The Calendar does not constitute a comprehensive list of all the companies or entities promoting events in Brazil, nor does it encompass the full range of events organized in the country. Indeed, many others of equal excellence in terms of organization, quality, and reliability are sponsored throughout Brazil every year. The events listed in this publications were submitted by the respective organizers and sponsors. 10 INTRODUCTION The Brazilian Calendar of Exhibitions and Fairs is an official publication of the Brazilian Government. Published annually since 1969, this year s edition includes 365 events, more than in any previous edition, reflecting the rich diversity of the country s economy, extending over a broad range of productive activities from arts and crafts production to information technology. A joint effort of the private initiative and the public sector, the Calendar is organized and distributed free of charge in Brazil and abroad by the Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade (MDIC) and the Ministry of External Relations (MRE). The 2012 edition was compiled using the MDIC s Fairs and Exhibition System as well as the MRE s trade promotion portal, BrasilGlobalNet. Companies and event organizers registered voluntarily on the two sites and inserted the information on the events listed in the 2012 Edition. In addition to the English version, the Calendar has been translated into a number of languages, including Arabic, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Russian. The print version of the Catalogue is distributed throughout Brazil to event promoters, companies, local governments, hotels, chambers of commerce, private sector trade associations, public organizations, convention centers, consulates, embassies, and any individual or legal entity with an interest in receiving a copy. Outside Brazil, the Catalogue is distributed primarily by the Trade Promotion Offices of Brazil s Embassies and Consulates and by representatives of the Brazilian Government at international events. The publication is also available online at and Through these sites, specific events may be located using a range of filters, including date, event name, industry, and/or venue. The Calendar serves as a valuable tool for Brazilian and foreign entrepreneurs, providing a multiplicity of events with the potential to create new business opportunities. The fairs offer the chance to learn about new technologies, develop commercial strategies, enhance competitiveness in an increasingly demanding global market, in addition to promoting business tourism and contributing to economic growth across the country.
